Chubby Budda

  Buddhist monks thailand

Young Buddhist monks swept around the temple. Their orange gowns stood out brightly amongst which appeared to be fog, but I knew it couldn't be due to the heat. Their twig brooms swished stones, dirt and debris as if background music to their chants.

Spiritual work: Remove that which blocks, which clouds vision. Close one's eyes look towards the light, let it give harmony to the chaos that is never far away.

Each step I took in Thailand in these last twenty-four hours have been exotic, enchanting… Newness, wonder, softness, kindness… Does Buddhism has an effect on their behaviour? I keep hearing the expression: "What would Jesus do?" And then I heard, "Certainly, act like this."

Spirituality evident.

The first thing said to me when I arrived in Thailand was when the taxi driver asked me, "Are you here to meditate?"

Praying, budda, monks, dog

I must have given him an odd look, because before I could answer he said, "You have Budda in your heart."

"I do?" I asked. He pointed to my necklace, which had a silver heart locket, and various religious medals of Jesus, Mary, and angels. "See, Budda, there," he said.

Looking down at my heart locket, I smiled, "I hadn't thought about meditating, but to learn to cook instead." He laughed with ease and said, "Chubby Budda!"

Could it be that the taxi driver meant “meditate”?
On the other hand, he may have well immediately recognized your talent to mediate!
Enjoy and safe travels to both of you,

  24. We are all connected. You must be glowing with the light of God, whatever someone chooses to call him. Wise taxi man and what an exciting welcome to the city you were given. Chubby Buddha is very funny. I am also enchanted with these images and your words, as always but a little bit extra today I think 🙂

Such beautiful imagery and words, Corey. Looking forward to more.

  32. Budhism teaches that all life is interconnected. You Corey allow me to connect in your world, Budhism or not I thank you for all the tender words, and the window into your life that allows me to see through your lens into worlds and cultures that I can only dream of.

  33. I can only say WOW! Are you in for a treat!

  34. Laurie SF

Awakened and enlightened by this post, Corey. Nirvana!

  35. Or, the Buddha’s the duddah!
I’m sorry, Coco. Here you are trying to write a serious blog and your bratty little cousin keeps popping up with her puerile comments.

  36. Looking forward to backseat traveling through Asia with you!

  37. Actually, make it, “The Buddha’s the Duddha!”
    That’s better.

  38. Mardog would also like you to bring that white Dharma dog back home with you. She says three large dogs is not enough.

  39. Captivating photographs, Corey! Fantastic color! And I needed the words of spirituality today “…Remove that which blocks, which clouds vision. Close one’s eyes look towards the light…” Thank you for an inspiring post today! And for always letting your light shine! XOX

  40. I’m all about removing that which blocks, and clouds truth! As for looking to the light, the true light is Christ Jesus, who died for us, and has risen from the dead! His Bones are not dust in a grave as budda’s is! So glad about that! Isn’t it awesome, Corey, that the taxi driver saw that light in you! So funny, “Chubby budda”…ha! Have a marvelous time. Your photos of orange and gray are so captivating!

  41. Hi, Ana, I click on fellow blogers names when I can, every now and then, and was so glad to have clicked yours…the “Song of Solomon” chapter 6 quote blesses my heart! As did the song “Slow Fade”…Love that song! May contentment be yours!

Our family (sister, her husband & 2 kids ) travel to Asia this summer and will be in Chiang Mai.
We must do some of these things.
