This little girl was as happy as a lark at five in the morning. After a took her photo, her brother pointed to my image in the ferry's window. We both laughed when I took a self portrait.

The ferry ride was an hour and a half long… or I should say an hour and a half of glorious sunrise and landscape.

Thank you for your thoughts, suggestions, and prayers. My foot is somewhat better. Doesn't hurt as much, though puffy. On the way from the airport in Bangkok to our hotel the cab driver noticed my foot. He opened his glove box and took out some ointment. He could not talk, though his concern and sharing his ointment (wintergreen something…) was such a tender act of kindness! As I got out of the cab he gave me the jar of ointment. I was touched… and became speechless as well.

  1. She looks like an angel, and the man with the jar of ointment sounds wonderful as well. What a morning you two had.

  2. Lovely story of kindness that transcends language barriers, kindness attracts kindness… X x

Magical images, reminiscent of scenes I remember from the movie “Indochine”.
So good to hear your foot is hurting less.
I remember a Chinese friend giving me something called, if I remember correctly, Tiger Balm. It is supposed to cure all sorts of ills. I hope your foot takes well to whatever you got.
    Safe travels,
    Merisi

I just read about your foot – I am very glad to hear it is at least a little better and will continue to get better each day.
The pictures of your ferry ride are stunning and I can see how the scenery makes the early hour completely tolerable. It’s the look on the child’s face though that is the most compelling for me – truly delightful!

What a sweet face the littlest angel has…so precious.
The taxi driver was so sweet to help and give you his jar of ointment…he knew you were in pain and discomfort and helped in the nicest way possible…a kind word and sympathy.

Corey, thank you so much for sharing your magical adventure with us. Of course, now I want to go to Thailand. I do hope your foot heals quickly and doesn’t put too much of a damper on the rest of your trip.

I love all your landscapes, but, alike your other readers, my favourite shot is that of the little girl !!!
    Blissful !
Your bad foot allowed you to meet people’s kindness. A positive point of view for your bad luck …
    Get well soon !

  20. I love the pictures of the water. It was very nice of the man to give you that! 🙂

Dear Corey….I am sorry not to have emailed earlier but I have been occupied with mom who has been unwell.
I so loved the image of the little girl which spoke volumes to me; aside from the beauty that appeared to emanate from her soul, looking at her face reminded me of a simpler time and I felt my shoulders drop while thinking about Songs of Innocence. Such a lovely thought on this, our first day of spring.
What an adventure you have been having. I perused previously unread posts this morning and thoroughly enjoyed all . But when reading about your ankle I gasped. I imagine you googled on how it should be treated but I see you have had to improvise a bit because of travel. Is there a chance you can get a blow up cast which would give it some support? This from someone who is ignorant of medical services where you are at the moment. Perhaps you are well past this point and are truly on the mend which is my hope. Goes to show that you should never leave home without your personal nurse… (moi)
You are so right when you speak of silver linings; oh how they warm the heart and it sounds as though yours has been suitably warmed. Thank goodness, in the true sense of the phrase.
I leave for Paris on April 1st and will take your number with me so, I am able to call once you are home.I am hoping jetlag will not preculde a visit but que sera sera. In the meantime, my wish for both of you is that everything goes well and you have a wonderful reunion with Chelsea.
    Happy Trails…
    XOXO

  22. These photos are so beautiful (and peaceful) and that child is lovely.
    Continued healing…

  23. Such beautiful pictures Corey!

Farmboy Husband thinks the ointment probably contained an “essential oil” which serves as a numbing agent (not that there’s anything wrong with that!). I now recall when I underwent some major dental work 35 years ago that my dentist applied clove oil to a tender tooth after he drilled way down, for the same reason. In your case, even topical pain-relief can be a help, and meanwhile the swelling should continue to subside gradually. Take care of yourself, let Yann help as much as possible, and don’t overdo it till the ankle’s all better!

  25. Kathleen

Your story of the cab driver giving you wintergreen ointment reminds me of my late Mother, who worked for many years in the local creamery where milk was brought from the dairy farms and pasteurised and bottled in the factory near where we lived. Myself and my sister were lucky to get holiday jobs here when my Mother worked here! She used tell us of this guy the staff called Willie Wintergreen because he wore this ointment so much he smelled of it day and night!
It is an ointment to soothe aching limbs and muscles so hopefully it will work its magic on you too!

I can certainly sympathise with the foot pain as I recently injured my leg in several places and the pain was severe but not being able to do things the way you normally do was the hardest part.
Sounds like you are getting the best care possible from everyone and seeing the sites you are seeing is bound to have a healing power!
    Keep going….

  27. I love these pictures, I think about mountains exactly like that often.
Kindness, it is all about kindness.

  28. Shelley Noble

Holy Cow, Corey. That shot of the girl is breathtaking. Brava! You being in the world taking images capturing images that only your heart could see and evoke is a blessing on the earth. That shot goes in the Corey coffee table book!

  29. OM….What a spectacular moment you captured with that precious child……she looks like the very embodiment of Bliss.
    Thanks for sharing.
