Skinny Dipping

Or….How to take a Bath…..

Because it was a 102 degrees yesterday, and the heat is suppose to carry on today!

Carry the tub outside.

Under your arm,

take the champagne.

Gather roses; buds, blossoms, blooms-

toss them in the bath.

Oh, a shower of rose petals!

Take the garden hose and fill the tub up-

Overflowing!

Take your clothes off,

and toss them far out of sight!

Dip a toe and then dare…

splash in!

Bath yourself in the moonlight silky and smooth.

Sip, champagne, or use it as rinse-

straight from the bottle while listening to the owl-

Hoot!

When you are fresh and clean,

Wrap yourself in your bed-sheet

like a butterfly cocoon,

And sleep!

Why do we do the same thing, the same way, each day?

  1. Marvelous!…and a perfect thought for the first full day of summer.

  2. Oh to be your neighbour, giggling as I peak over the fence…!

  3. Oh Corey, you are one practical romantic!
One question: does Champagne act as a rinse or to firm up your curls? 😉
Here I have a beautiful song for you, to listen to by moonlight:

Vaga Luna: Lovely moon, you who shed silver light
On these shores and on these flowers …
(a friend of mine told me he awoke one night and heard Cecilia sing that song – he thought he had gone to Heaven! She really sings like an angel).

  4. genius

  5. Sounds like fun, and a nice way to cool down. If you put ice cubes in I wonder how long they would take to melt?
Perhaps we do the same things each day out of habit, or simply because they bring us joy. As for doing them the same way, I blame that on being old and set in my ways. Meh, let my family deal with it.

  6. Sounds delicious, if only our neighbors couldn’t see.
It’s going to be 115 degrees here today, yikes.
I’d better water my flowers and potted plants outside on my patio now.

Thank you to “M” for posting the Vaga Luna video. It is a perfect background for moon bathing.

Superb idea!! Anything out of the routine, but your idea is fabulous!

  9. That sounds delightful! Now where can I find someone to carry the tub outside. I have plans for real for a tub outside, but it isn’t there yet. I will remember to toss the clothes far away and take the champagne and bed sheet. Enjoy the moon light!

    AHHHHH! What a GREAT IDEA!!!
    Sounds heavenly!!

  11. Ugh, ugh, UGH!!! I grew up only a couple miles from the San Francisco Bay in the flatlands, so prefer weather that’s neither too hot in summer nor too cold in winter.
I remember my family getting me up at the inhuman hour of 4 AM when I was little, at the start of summer vacations to Yosemite, Lassen, Tahoe and Crater Lake — in order to make the drive through the Valley (San Joaquin or Sacramento) and reach the mountains before the mercury topped 100°F.
Nothing was air-conditioned back in those days, least of all cars, so the trips were m-i-s-e-r-a-b-l-e, especially for a kid. I recall stopping at 10 AM in Red Bluff so my poor dad could buy his first pair of sandals, at Sears or Wards (or was it Penney’s — can’t remember which any more).
The one respite was on our Lassen visit, when we stopped afterwards at Burney Falls and hiked down to see the cataract, where we were pleasantly surprised to discover that it was actually cool down there (even needed a cardigan sweater)! Also seem to recall visiting a very cool cave somewhere in the area. Do you know these places, Corey?

  12. Lovely. I’ve always wanted to have a little old clawfoot cast iron tub in my backyard just for this purpose: soaking in cool water amid my garden after a long, hot summer day.

  13. GOOD QUESTION COREY!!! maybe it is time for a little shake up here…..we shall see!

What a great idea! Lovely and practical yard art. I like it.

And why didn’t you give us a photo of the real event, champagne and all, rather than a mere stone cherub???
I love this idea. What a great way to (temporarily, romantically) beat the heat. 102!?!

  16. You are welcome, Joanne!
One of my favorite songs, when sung by Ceclia Bartoli. I love it immensely. Every song on that CD is beautiful. Just for curiosity’s sake I listened to Luciano Pavarotti sing Vaga Luna. Not the same, it hurt my ears. 😉

  17. Now you’re treading perilously close to 2-tub ED commercial territory. Please pass the brain bleach!!!

Yes – it was hot here Northern California yesterday! Was 102 in Sacto too. We had no spring really this year, which makes the shock even greater! Seriously thinking of buying a kiddie wadding pool 🙂
Wish you were having another meet and great in Chico – I missed it the last time you did it!

  19. I’ve been wanting to finish out my “Courtyard”…It has a brick fence, a firepit, and the heaviest old metal glider ever, painted black, has an Old World New Orleans feel…painted fluer di lis cement floor. Now, despite the mosquitoes and June Bugs, and frogs, I want a water feature after reading your sweet message and everyone elses as well…
Have a sweet summer to all…
    God Bless

  20. I like the way you think! A bath celebration…perfect!
