Summer Garden Party

Hammock outside

Swinging in a hammock after the sun goes down.

Barefoot,

cool breeze,

with bits of conversation floating by, while napping.

Summer bliss.

Lavender bottles with ribbons

Ribbons, stacked neatly in a box, waiting, as my cousin Judy encouraged her company to try their hand at making lavender bottles.

I wish my hands could produce the magic Judy does.

Provencal cloth blue and yellow

Provencal table cloth with a blue glass, waiting for dinner.

Red door judy

The red door that I do believe is the key to the heart of a home I love.

Friends gathered
Birdhouse in the garden

Family and friends gathered in the garden for a fill up of friendship.

I was stuffed silly, and rolled away happier.

Summer garden decoration

Summer garden party decor.

Old wooden table covered with a bold, wide yellow and white stripe table cloth. Ironstone jugs held silverware, and oversized white poppies. Vintage silver tin ice holders with a zince bucket next to it which held drinks.

Stuffed avocado

Stuffed avocado that I which I had the recipe for… since I do not have the recipe (yet) I am going to let my tastebuds recall it for you….

Ripe avocado

Scooped out and slightly mashed avocado, then mixed gently with fresh shrimp, garlic, and chopped, roasted pastchios, (salt and peppered to taste.)

Served chilled in the avocado skin.

Must have outside sitting in a hammock with a glass of rosé wine.

  1. Corey, i LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS POST…. see, even my keyboard got stuck on CAPITAL LETTERS in my happiness to comment…….. ooooh; I am in photo heaven! I live that happiness too, daily, not in Provence but nearby Paris – and yes, we are SO THANKFUL to have all that!
No rosé wine though, either a very cool chilled white at lunch or a warm, earthy and glorious red at all other times!
Have a wonderful time! Lots of love
Kiki (being chased from the computer by the electrician!)

  2. Sheer bliss!
I am trying to calculate if I am too late to join you. Well, must be past midnight now. Anyone left, besides fireflies? 😉
Everything looks summery and welcoming. That avocado would be quite a change from my usual cottage cheese on half an avocado with pumpkinseed oil fare!

  3. Good life, Corey! Hammock, rosé, lavender and a good company = wonderful time! oh, and the food, of course.
    Your photos are beautiful!

  4. This looks like a magazine shoot, well done!

  5. What a lovely spot! Seeing the lavender things reminds me that I would love to wander thru rows and rows of lavender in a sunny field somewhere. Can you imagine the fragrance? Wonderful!
Looks like you are having a ball!

Perfect idea for dinner tonight as it will be 90! Haven’t made lavender wands in years but oh they make your lingerie smell delightful, the rose is another heavenly idea – you are so inspiring!

  7. A perfect summer day! Beautiful!
    Blessings!

  8. I wanna come to your summer garden party!

  9. What beautiful images and your garden party looks dreamy.

We had a gorgeous garden party on Sunday too (after a wedding party the day before).
Setting the decor for you (no photos though!):
Champagne. Chilled melons. Home-made guacamole and tsatsiki on bread.
Beaujolais red wine. Roast ham. Cheeses. Baskets of peaches.
The greedy had another go at the wedding cakes.
The sun. The pool. The view over the vines.

  11. Relaxin, warm, comfortable, loving, beautiful…

  12. Very lovely post Corey. It looks so relaxing!

  13. You take awesome photos. Loved the pictures and the day! And avocado is my favorite, going to try and copy that stuffed avocado recipe!

  14. Ooh, such nostalgia! I haven’t lain in a hammock since I was a kid, up at my maternal grandparents’ subsistence farm in the Northern California coast redwood region.
My grandmother would save the 8-9 months’ accumulation of magazines since my parents’ last visit of the previous autumn — “Saturday Evening Post” was a particular favorite! — and how I loved to lie in the hammock — slung between posts on the shaded back porch — on a hot afternoon catching up on them. Does anyone else recall how the “Saturday Evening Post” used to serialize Erle Stanley Gardner’s latest “Perry Mason” mystery novel, in 6 weekly installments as I recall? There were also “Colliers,” “Look” and “McCalls” magazines — all long gone, due to the then-increasing pervasiveness of TV, I’d surmise; is “Ladies Home Journal” still published?
Must get my mind out of this reverie and back to work translating now!

  15. P.S. The luncheon sounds lovely, no doubt in wonderful company. Please just hold the avocado, shrimp and wine… hmmm, that just leaves pistachios and garlic. Well, I DO like those!

  16. This looks like the perfect garden party. Oh how I wish I was sitting there with you and enjoying friendship and good food with beautiful surroundings.

  17. Oh, the blue glass struck a chord with me. Reminds me of visiting my grandparents on the farm in Missouri when I was a kid. Blue glasses with white sailboats. A good summer memory. Running down to the barn, dodging cows that I thought were dangerous (silly city girl), seeing the barn cats sitting on the pigs’ backs, watching Grandpa squirt milk to the cats for our enjoyment, gathering eggs… all so exotic to my sister and me.
Heading into town, Kahoka, MO (The County Seat! my grandma said proudly, when her sister scoffed at the place.) Being stared at because no one there had ever seen braces on a person’s teeth.
And, like Kathie B., I remember looking at old magazines they saved for us, Saturday Evening Posts. All I was interested in was the page of comics- Post Scripts.
Beautiful photos, Corey. Thank you for triggering great memories, once again.

  18. Your literary taste was much more sophisticated than mine. I wonder if my sister remembers the Erle Stanley Garner installments. She was and is a Perry Mason vintage paperback fan. I’ll have to ask.

  19. The avocado concoction is the icing on the cake! Happy 4th – you must be relishing all of your Americana traditions right about now.

hey ding dong…when did you take a photo of my feet?! let all those who read this blog know that Corey’s photos are truly candid. She is very quiet with that camera.

  21. YUM again! That avocado looks delish. I’d have to substitute the pistachios for something else (sadly allergic to nuts)…but I could get creative.
The party looks like it was an afternoon in Heaven. I’m having a friend over tomorrow night for wine on my porch (which is boasting new pillows and a new rug after 15 years of the same-old, same-old)! Maybe I’ll incorporate some of your ideas into my little get-together!

  22. Brenda L. in TN.

AHHHH! The hammock looks sooooooo inviting! What a nice post…lovely setting for a party!

  23. No no, not sophistication, Natalie — probably my just being a few years older than you, which can make a huge difference during childhood, though not at all now.

  24. Franca Bollo

    Birdbrain!

  25. We love, love, love avocados; nearby Fallbrook has many avocado orchards so we have a fresh supply almost year-round! I’ve never thought of stuffing one; will try this recipe. Merci!!!

I had the most fabulous nap on my sister’s patio yesterday. Undistracted by the 4th of July revelers I was able to “get my nap on”, it was lovely!
We’re attempting to get our patios in order. I picked up a new bench and hung ornaments on the tree. Now all I need is a hammock!
By the way, I loved the flatware in your pictures. It’s beautiful!
Enjoy your lazy days of summer!

  27. LOVE your pictures, blog, store, and everything!Found out about you through”Blogging for Bliss”

Lavender wands, hammocks, a wonderful avocado concoction … a summer day doesn’t get much better. Thanks for the inspiration.

  29. Diane Dainis

I love my hammock too and now I must make that wonderful Avocado salad. Sounds delicious.
