Yotel…Amsterdam

Have you ever been stuck at the airport? That is what happened yesterday when I was venturing back from California to France. I had more than five hours to wait in Amsterdam. Being stuck at the airport isn't the worse thing in the world, but it certainly feels like it when one has traveled from nine in the morning until the wee hours of two in the morning. Fortunately, there was a place where one could take a shower, nap, or watch a movie or connect to the internet.
Though all I wanted was to be in a horizontal position.
Hotel in Amsterdam: Yotel (Schiphol) - Yotel (Schiphol)

The YOTEL, the short-stay hotel located inside the airport at Amsterdan (as well as in London’s Gatwick, and in New York's JFK.) was the place for my dream to come true.

Sleep never felt better.

"Simon Woodroffe, a British entrepreneur created the YOTEL which offers rooms that are a cross between what you might find in a Japanese pod-hotel and an amenity-rich first-class airplane cabin. But these rooms also include full showers, flat-screen TVs, wireless Internet access and room service.

Instead of trying to stay awake while waiting the next flight, Travelers can book a YOTEL room for as little as four-hours. Prices start at about $50 for a standard cabin for the minimum four-hour booking."

Small yes.

Clean, comfortable, glorious bed, yes.

Hot lush shower yes.

It was a dream come true, I walked in, closed the door, pulled down the heavy curtain, set the alarm clock and slept for four hours before catchng my next flight. Worth every single cent.

French Husband picked me up at the airport in Marseille, and we went straight to my friend Valerie's birthday party.

Brilliant idea – these should be at every airport. And yikes, I’m impressed – straight from a long-haul flight to a birthday party? Thank God for that yotel power-nap!

Horizontal position is all I want to be in when I travel that long. Those beds are divine looking.

  11. I agree, worth every cent. Amsterdam is my favorite airport in the world (so far). They have everything! I even had to use their emergency medical facilities for an IV (looong story) and it was even quite nice.

Happy you found some needed rest and made it home safely to celebrate your friend’s birthday. Enjoy the rest your summer!

  16. All I need is a bar stool with a well-stocked bar in front of it. And some form of currency.

  17. Form follows feng shui or something like that.

  18. Remind me to fly through New York the next time I make the very long trip from Japan to the US! But, do you think they’d let me in with four kiddos? ;o)

  19. Delightful! 🙂
One more reason to like Schiphol airport!
Did you discover Café Chocolat? I would take a stopover in Amsterdam just to get another cup of cappuccino at what I would call the world’s best airport coffee house.

  20. I checked my pictures of Café Chocolat and there is what looks like a row of fine bottles. 😉
