French Antique Style: Grey and Pink Bedroom

Grey and pink bedroom

I am not a pink girl, nor am I frilly, or lacey… though romance is right up my alley. Mimi's house is the perfect shade of grey, with hints of pink, frill, and lace. The perfect place for matchmaking, the birthplace of romance.

Not many of men could stand to be surrounded by so much girly-girl, but then not many men know the seductive powers of a pink ribbon.

Mimi painted the bedroom's embossed wallpaper grey, and then added a thousand and one touches of pink around the room.

Lace sham

Layers of varied textures of grey and pink seduction.

Mouth watering.

Spool jar

The bedside table has a gigantic spool of pink satin ribbon used as a base for a jar full of linen spools of thread. Around the top of the jar she added some of the pink ribbon.

Bonbons of another kind.

Peeled wall paper

On one side of the room she peeled away some of the wallpaper and put a faded pink marble top table against it. Peeling, cracked, and faded mean decorative to Mimi, she is not afraid of imperfection.

Grey armoire

An iron basket to protect wine bottles is used for storing extra blankets. The nineteen century armoire Mimi painted grey. A jar full of pink candy sits on the nightstand.

Design can be modern or old fashion, chic or simple, feminine or masculine… Though true design in my book must apply layers, various textures and mixed period pieces, originality.

Pink crystal chandelier

At the brocante she found the pink crystal chandelier.

Could it be any better?

The chandelier hangs in the middle of the room.

Pink girly frill, balanced by an oil painting, in a broken gilded frame of cherry trees blooming in Provence.

Who could sleep in such a room? I would just purr.

Details of pink with grey

Pink lace, satin ribbons, a marriage vase, grey beaded ribbon sitting on a chair, inspiration waiting for a happy home.

Or is it a ploy: Stack the bedroom chair with stuff rendering it impossible to use… hence an invitation to sit on the bed.

Stacked pillows

Mimi's bed is stacked a mile high with lacey pillows and pink floral shams.

A floating cloud.

I cannot help jumping on that bed every time I go into her room.

The bed head has the original caining, that was painted in a check design.  Daring, clever design for the 19th century artist…. whoever was so bold in the 19th century to paint the bed head caining pink and grey checked, must have had a flash of the future and Mimi as their muse.

Pink and grey bedroom details

Dang delicious!

Every piece in Mimi's bedroom was found at the French brocante.

  1. Hi Corey. As usual… gorgeous photos. Yummy. My bedroom is a very neutral shade of — gosh — I think it’s call Lichen.
I’m making a trip to France next month and am hoping to find a brocante or two or three.
    Cheers from England,
    Kim

  2. The checked pattern on the headboard is brilliant. I’ve never been a huge fan of caned chairs but now can’t wait to find one and try that. Mimi has a delicious home! My bedroom is a soft dreamy green. Love the wall color but seriously want to redo the furnishings!

  4. Beautiful…refreshing…love it!

Corey: My bedroom has brown walls, dark gray crown moulding and offwhite ceiling and trim. The bed is black iron, black bookcase and sideboard, green Duncan Fyfe side table and bright salmon ladies chair. Among the accessories is a scrolley architectural drawing dated 1903 purchased in Provence w/you and on the bed I have an antique sheet purchased from Nathalie acting as a coverlet. Parfait for the summer heat! Renee, San Diego

  6. Pink is growing on me and have always liked it paired with grey. My bedroom has dark gold walls with white everything else.

Uh, what color isn’t in my bedroom would be the answer. I totally need to redecorate from ceiling to floor. I am happy with my “hotel” white duvet and pillows, giving me more options with wall color and drapes.

  8. Before I was born, my bedroom was already painted boring old off-white. When I was around age 10 my father decided the room was ready for a DIY paint-job, so he asked me what color I’d like. I chose a light-to-medium green which my 10-year-old self found beautiful (you know, green = nature = soothing, blah, blah, blah).
Unfortunately, I was too young then to possess enough perspective in order to realize that after a few years I would be sick, Sick, SICK of the color — plus it was a bit the worse for wear from age. However, I was stuck with it, because my dad said there was nothing wrong with the condition of the paint and it would be a waste of his money and energy to repaint just on my teenaged whim, because for all he knew I might change my mind again in a few years, and again a few years after that…
Fast forward to age 21. I married Farmboy Husband and moved out of my parents’ house, but for several more years when I’d return to visit, my bedroom was still that nauseous shade of green. I must’ve been about 30 before my dad decided it was finally time to repaint, and restored my old bedroom to its former off-white glory — which it remained to the end of his life!

    Real nice.

  10. I admit I was never a fan of decorating with pink, but Mimi’s room is FABULOUS! Perfectly furnished! And I love the “bonbons” in the jar; fat-free!

  11. oh… ps… my bedroom is cranberry, mocha and vanilla (and just now after typing this I’ve realized you can eat each one)! lol

  12. my comment is coming right after Bro’s. So glad he enjoyed reading today!
Didn’t know Mimi had a blog, thanks for the link.
My bedroom is the lightest pink peach with gray accents . . .just made a huge find this weekend, a large gray grapevine mirror for over my dresser. So glad hubby doesn’t mind the color.
Oh, the pics of you in the mirror are quite fun!

  13. Taupe, with white trim, gold curtains and two antique embroidered pillow shams and a pastel antique quilt on the bed. Above the bed I have a framed angel Christmas card that Tara Bradford gave me. Like you, I’m not that crazy about pink, but Mimi’s bedroom is lovely.

  14. My room’s walls are a bright yellow. I have bright green curtains and a rainbow bedspread! Super fun. I love color! ;D

“…the seductive powers of a pink ribbon.” – Corey, you really know what you’re talking about!
My bedroom has neutral beigy walls I painted when I bought the house in 1994. But it’s the ACCESSORIES that ARE the room: a vintage wooden headboard and footboard handpainted with pink roses and lovebirds with a dark aqua background, dark aqua velvet curtains, a vintage floral rug (aqua, roses), and a gorgeous vintage painting of pansies.
Mmm-hmm. Aqua is (almost) my new favorite color. I love my room!

    Dear Corey…
Can you find me a chandelier like Mimi’s? I had one several years ago with lavender crystals and sold it. Something I have kicked myself over ever since. I know when I purchased mine it was quite expensive. Do you ever see them at the brocante’s with the beaded arms? PLEASE do let me know.

  17. Last year I painted my bedroom the color of light sand, with a pale cream trim. I wanted the room to frame my green (all shades) and wheat colored antiques. There are two windows in my room. One faces east and one south, the light makes each wall look a slightly different color. Over my bed I have an old print of Provence that I picked up at a Brocante while in Nice this past June!

  18. We’re right in the middle of painting the master bedroom. Going from light blue everything to dark gray walls and cream ceiling and trim. Haven’t decided on an accent color yet…. maybe light pink, now that I’ve seen Mimi’s look?

  19. À propos of Corey’s “reading” topic yesterday, here’s an article that might interest some T-I-C readers.
“A ‘Midnight in Paris’ tour takes you back to the Paris of the ’20s”:

  21. Corey, thanks for the gorgeous photos and link to Mimi’s blog! I took a quick peek…ohhh…I’ve already marked it as a favorite 🙂 Our bedroom is taupe & white with pale green accents.

  22. Pink and grey….very nostalgic for me. My mother’s favorite combination in the 50’s and 60’s. Love it!

    Hi Michelle,
Beaded arms is a tough one, then add lavender crystals, and you want it to be an old one such as this?
If ever I see one I’ll let you know…

    Hi Brother Mathew,
Seriously are you telling the truth? What happened? You cannot tell me the Brocante Bug is biting you, you cannot tell me you are growing a soft spot for pink?
    Sister Corey

  25. I love it all. I’m so unimaginative when it comes to decorating. Can hire you and Mimi to decorate my house in Provence when I buy it?

  26. Brocantess

My home has never looked so good! When Corey photographs things they take on her magical appeal. Thank you for such lovely images.
    Mimi

My home has never looked so good! Thank you for adding your magical touch and making it all so lovely.

  28. Hi Corey,
You do know that you are torturing us don’t you? You over there and us over here dreaming of being there. All that beautiful Brocante stuff…
As for Mathew (with one t); I bet he has a closet full of things from the French brocante hidden away. Don’t let that tough facade fool you.
    mimi (with a small m)

  29. Corey, I second you 🙂

  30. nice

  31. The warmest, deepest, richest GOLD.
    I wanted blue.
But my tres chic color consultant said “Your timber furniture is a yellow hued pine. Blue would make your bedroom cold.” and then found the most wonderful shade of Gold.
I have always loved her choice but sadly I have never been able to find textiles to match it or set it off. I have tried yellow, beige, beige gold, green, purple. Combinations of all the above, but none of them have worked.
She is coming again tomorrow because we are repainting and refurnishing our kitchen/family room and right now I am having the most dreamy affair with . . . . . what else?
    FRENCH GREY!!
And Corey, your last couple of blogs have set me on a path of pure delight. Thank you, my soul sister.

  32. Angela Vular

Oh my…fantastic photos! Love all the greys with touches of pink. My mom just passed away in June and she had touches of pink in her bedroom and livingroom. I felt so peaceful and happy when I sat in those rooms.

  33. Michelle M in KY

    Oh Corey…
YES, I would love to have one again. The one I had had the beaded arms, was old, and had lavendar crystals. It was one of those things…in a moment of wanting to change the look of my room I sold it. Can you say Stupid??? I’ve kicked myself over it ever since. So, I have no preferance to the color of the crystals…if you happen upon a great looking old chandelier similar to this one, PLEASE keep me in mind. By the way are you going to Texas this year?
