This Little Girl Went to the Market

Brown dress

This little girl went to the market,

in a brown dress,

and brought home some melons.

Melons in a brown dress

I knew something was up when I heard French Husband (who also went to the market with The Girl in the Brown Dress, and our son Sacha), "Our kids have gone crazy today… wait 'till you see them."

When I saw them I didn't laugh, I didn't scream, I hooted! Then begged, and I mean on my knees begged, PLEASE! P-L-E-A-S-E let me take a photo?"

Ripe melons

The Little Girl in the Brown Dress went to the market and bought some big ripe melons.

I didn't dare take a photo of my son and his big ripe cucumber.

Though I think you can imagine what that looked like.

  3. Oh, forgive me, but I didn’t realize that that first photo wasn’t natural at first! I was thinking that was kind of an unfortunate angle you chose there, Mom!!! What a hoot!

  4. You have the most amazing family.

Has Sacha seen the movie “This Is Spinal Tap”?It’s a comedy about a rock band and has a great “cucumber” scene. 🙂

  6. LOL. I have a melon story too. My very good friend from Canada, originally from Trinidad, dated a few guys in her 20ties, but did not find The One. Then she met a nice, handsome and quiet guy, who took his time to ask her on a date. Probably he was a bit intimidated because she was crowed-stopping-beautiful (still is 20 years later). Finally, he asked her out. She agreed and he was supposed to pick her up at her apartment. He rang the doorbell, she opened the door to the sight of him holding two melons, one in each of his hands, at the hight suggesting bosom. “I didn’t know what to get you”, he said, “everyone brings flowers and I wanted to be original, so you would go out with me.” She laughed. They got married and are a wonderful couple. Together for over 20 years and have two beautiful daughters.

I think they should have swapped their fruits and vegetables.

  18. This is the one thing about having older kids that I so love.
One evening my son was surfing his computer and at a magazine news site there was a photo of a famous name who has has a huge behind. He, my husband and daughter-in-law were making remarks and my son said “I don’t see how anyone could fall in love with that” (clearly he hasn’t looked at his mom’s backside in awhile !!!!!!) To which the other two agreed. From across the room little 5 year old Iris says “I bet Grandma Paula would, she loves everybody!” To this day we laugh and laugh about that comment.
Have fun with your kids, it is the best of times.

    Très drôle et adorable!?

  22. That is sooooooooooo funny! I remember the time my Mom and I took the huge cardboard points protecting the edges of my kitchen cabinets when they were delivered and stuck the points in our shirts. My Dad and brother didn’t even NOTICE, they were so busy hanging the cabinets. Mom and I peed our pants laughing.
I must say, though, that melons are shaped much nicer than cardboard points…

  23. Rebecca from the pacific northwest

I want some of those lovely (Cavaillon?) melons. In my mouth, not my shirt.
