It never ceases to amaze me this thing called life. In fact every day I wonder what "surprise" is waiting for me around the corner. Disappointment is rare. Not that ever surprise life has to offer is wonderful, magical, rare or delicious… but I must say every surprise is just that a surprise! Which sets me on a new journey, gives me a different way at looking at things, or best of all: A connection, a dot-to-dot, letting me believe everything is connected for better or for worse.
Today at the market in Aubagne I met a fellow blogger who is an extraordinary potter. Monique's creative pottery sense comes from shapes and form from yesteryear. She has a sensitive style to that which favors a gentle simplicity, favoring 18th century style. Her pottery is fine, white, and very light. It reminds me of Astier de Villatte but at a fraction of the cost, and yet richly crafted.
Monique's pottery matches her style: Refreshing, clever, charming, caring….
I wanted to buy everything she had and give everything of mine to away. Needless to say, I cannot do that, so I bought a cup that had a crown on it to remind me of the day.
Reves d'Argile is handmade pottery with a white glaze. Monique uses antiques objects found at the brocante to stamp designs on her wares. Old fleur de Lys, antique crowns, letters, numbers, and religious symbols. Each piece has a unique feel to it, as if you can feel Monique's hands when holding it, and at the same time gives you a touch of French history.
Tiny trays that remind me of the madeleines, financier, petit gateau tin trays one can find at the brocante. But Monique has created a glazed pottery versison that is adorable!
Yes meeting Monique was a delightful surprise, seeing her lovely wares was an extra bonus. But the sweetest surprise of the day came when I found out that Monique lives fifteen minutes away from me. Imagine that. Paradise in my own backyard.

P.S. I'll pick a winner of the ribbon on Monday.
