Mimosa & a View

The nurse asked, "What would you like for breakfast?"

I was surprised that I had an option, but on the other hand I knew it was limited. I replied with wishful hope, "A mimosa?"

Hot chocolate with a brioche was what followed.

The view from my window makes up for most of the little inconveniences, though I am disappointed not to celebrate French Husband's birthday the way we had planned.

Below is a photo of the lunch menu… Sans mimosa! I could certainly down a few.

Thank you for your prayers, good thoughts, advice & chocolates I know you are planning to mail, they have brightened my days.

  1. Oh Corey,
Thinking of you. That’s all I can think to say. If thoughts and prayers could mend you then you would be back wallpapering this afternoon!

  2. Enjoy being waited on. Here in the states they would have probably shipped you home the same day!

  3. Last year in Nimes, they said I had to stay eight days. I bargained with them and it worked. May be worth a try.
It is no fun, especially on a gray day as today.

  4. Oh my goodness sweet girl! What are we gonna do with you! You pour thing! Guess you shouldn’t have been doing that while Mimi was away! Hahahahaha! Just teasing! I know you two are like Bat man and Robin! Now you are gonna be wearing a cast to the wedding! Oh, how I was I could be there to celebrate the wedding! Get well soon my friend!

  5. Oh Corey,
I am still on vacation and missed reading the blog the last few days. I am so sorry to hear about your wrist. I’m glad is all it is. But I’m sure that it really really hurts. Birthday wishes to Yann. Love and hugs to all. Sasha can unpack himself. Ellen

  6. i vote
    for the wallpapering
    on the cast…
    maybe in toile?
    {{ i can almost see
    it
    now }}

  7. I don’t think they need to put “pain” on the menu. I think you have plenty already. JK.
So you are staying in the hospital with your gigantic cast? That is so different than it would be over here, as you know. Tell me, is the hospital food actually good in France?
I’m visualizing your bones mending strong and quickly. Feel better soon.

  8. I hope your feeling better! My goodness, six pins…and all the bumps and bruises that go with it! Sending virtual hugs and kisses!

  9. I can see your wheels turning in that bed, thinking of all the things you would like to do , the people you would connect the dots to, the projects for the painter, the carpenter, the gardener, the list goes on in the wee hrs in your sweet little head… I also feel bad for you all that you don’t get to celebrate Yann birthday the way you had planned… just pick another day, after they release you! Love L.

  10. Oh Corey, You amaze me with your continued sense of humor, snapping photos in the hospital, and blogging
one-handed ! Is there a blog award for that? Yours for sure.
Your fall was heard all over the world…and the prayers follow.
    Wait til Annie sees! Nance

  11. When I had to be in the hospital for a few days, I imagined I was at an expensive spa. It was so very nice to have a break from planning and preparing meals. And I didn’t have to tidy or clean anything. And someone was always getting me things and fluffing my pillow. You can pretend you are a queen. A queen with a cast on one arm!
    That view is gorgeous!
And last night we saw the movie ‘Midnight in Paris’. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves Paris!

  12. Happy birthday, Yann! I know you will celebrate properly when you are able.
What a beautiful view, Corey. Something to dream on while you heal.

How long will you be in the hospital? In the USA, after surgery for the pins, they put on a cast and slap you on the back on your way out the door…lol! Enjoy the pampering as long as possible, sans mimosa.

  14. Surprised you were still in the hospital. Here they wouldn’t even keep you for the night and breakfast too. I hope that soon you will be able to celebrate birthdays with chocolate.

  15. Corey, I worked in hospitals for years and we did not have any views such as that! And I can imagine your food will be much better than we had. Enjoy the rest and it’s time everyone took care of you, like you have taken such great care of us!!!
May you have a very speedy recovery!
    Happy Birthday to Yann!

  16. Enjoy resting Corey and slowing down……..many people wish you a speedy recovery as well as I do. I love your idea of wallpapering your cast ! What a creative imagination you continue to foster! Truly, slow down, rest, rest, rest and heal.

  17. C, when I left my comment after reading about your fall, I had no idea your injury was so severe. I am very sorry to hear that you are in the hospital, and hope and pray that you are feeling much better soon. Thanks for the extra effort it must take to post! xo

  18. Corey with the great attitude. Sending up a prayer for you now.
If you cannot get comfortable in your bed, I slept in a chair for two months after shoulder surgery (fell off a ladder too, hmmm).I know it sounds impossible, but sleeping in the chair wasn’t too bad and it wasn’t even a recliner but had an ottoman. Fixing my naturally curly hair, now that was another thing…. my son tried to help and he stood back and laughed at me and I cried. (just a little) 🙂

  19. I’ll zip right over the pond if you need help when you get home! What a menu…

  20. Corey … just read about your fall … so, so sorry! But if you must be in a hospital, how relatively pleasant! You will manage when you get home … somehow. I wonder if there is a Mac mode for speaking rather than using a keypad … a sling for a camera … a mimosa that can be surreptitiously delivered to your current room with a view (just one!) For the wedding, an antique lace wrap for your cast, perhaps an antique Chantilly lace shawl, in creamy ivory … I have one that I can bring over. And I can just stay on … to help, of course … seriously wish I could! Maybe this time will be healing in more ways than you can imagine now … an enforced slowdown, of sorts … I went through some of that with a broken foot. All good thoughts and wishes to you, Corey!

  21. It is reassuring to know you are in such good hands. Allow yourself the time and the space to heal. Soon you will be a flurry of activity again!

  22. I didn’t know you stayed at the hospital . I would have come to say hello .
    Call if you need anything

  23. While Farmboy Husband had a rather nice view of the university campus and environs during his hospital stay, it can’t compare to yours there in Provence, Corey.
I don’t care if they gussy it up and call it “Choux Fleur,” I STILL won’t eat it — yuck 🙁
Re mimosas: Presumably you’re on painkillers and/or other meds with which alcohol might interfere, and at this point you need the meds more. Once you get home and the doctor gives his/her OK, it will be a treat to which you can look forward.
Bonne anniversaire (Bom aniversário), Dear Yann! At least Corey’s getting better, and with any luck life will return to normal soon enough. Meanwhile, bring her some birthday cake to the hospital — I imagine THAT’s allowed!
Corey, is that yummy chestnut yogurt on the hospital menu? Just think how good that additional dietary calcium and Vitamin D would be for helping your bones knit back up, right? If they don’t have it there, could you get Yann or the kids to smuggle some into your room?

  24. Take care of yourself. Happy Birthday Yann.

  25. COREY!!! I miss just a few days (a rare thing for me to miss your blog daily) and goodness me look what happens…as if in reading daily could’ve helped me to catch you or keep you from falling…Happy Birthday to your man and much quick good healing to you dear woman.

  26. So sorry to read about your fall, midnight from a ladder, living the high life! I do hope you heal so quickly that you amaze all the doctors and they send you home with a dozen mimosas, shaken not stirred.
thanks goodness for iPhone photography – you can still photograph the wedding one-handed.

  27. Dear Corey, I was so sorry to read about your fall. Thank goodness it was only your wrist – it really could have been much worse. I know that doesn’t help – I’m trying to see the bright side of an unfortunate situation. xxx
I hope you are out of the hospital soon and wish you a speedy recovery. Also Happy Birthday Wishes to French Husband.

  28. Dear Corey
Just started reading your messages, here in Ct we had no electricity for 6 days.
French hospitals have better food than americans, had to pass too many weeks in one, if I remember correctly you could have a glass of wine if not interfering with meds…
What were you doing playing the acrobat? Let yourself be pampered for a while.
All the best for a quick recovery.
    Annie v.

  29. Ouch, ouch ouch. Just got here and found you on the floor!
Be patient with yourself and rest and heal.

  30. What an adventurous life you lead. Our hospitals don’t serve food that looks that good. Knowing you, you will be up and around wallpapering, etc. You have so much energy you just keep going. How do i get some of your energy? You just go, go , go, even getting hurt, ankle, wrist, you don’t slow down for long! Get well soon and let French Husband wait on you!

  31. c-i think of you everyday…again prayers for a COMPLETE/SPEEDY recovery….hang in there….

  32. All that hot chocolate and choux fleur will surely do your body and soul good. Rest up, lovely lady. Enjoy the view.

  33. Oh, Corey! I am sending you love and well wishes from the beach in Cali. I must say that view is fabulous… and your menu…. everything is better in France! If you have to be laid up in a hospital for your wrist for now, I think you found the right place! I’ll have a mimosa in your honor 🙂

  34. The things we do for the things we love … and the sacrafices we make! There is always something good about everything that happens, sometimes we just really have to search for it. I’m thinking that you found yours with the excuse for no bra! Gotta look on the bright side – the girls are free!
    Seriously tho, thinking of you!
    Hugs!

  35. Violet Cadburry

You must be in the VIP section. A room with a view and French cuisine for meals. Yum. All we get here is jello, red or yellow or green and boxed juice or broth. BLech! Do they serve wine with dinner? Is the doctor incredibly handsomely French? Does the hospital have Sisters of Mercy in attendance? Here’s raising a glass of vino to your continued health. Salut!

  36. I wish you a speedy recovery x x x

  37. I too saw the “pain” on the menu! It got me laughing. Corey, we are all praying for your speedy recovery! Thankfully this didn’t happen when you were in China or some other exotic place. God bless you! from Cy in Cagnes sur Mer

  38. Sending you Hugs and prayers for a speedy recovery Corey – enjoy the choccies when they get sent to you. Ask Yann very sweetly to bring his birthday cake in and share it with you.

  39. So sorry to hear of your accident! Heal quickly. Sending prayers your way.

  40. Oh Corey I’m so sorry to hear of your accident. All last August my husband and I scraped and painted our 2 1/2 story farmhouse, up and down on rickety ladders for 4 weeks and I worried myself sick that a similar thing might happen. I’ve wallpapered too, and know how in our excitement to see the big change in a room we sometimes over-tax and tire ourselves. I pray for your speedy recovery…I know you have a wonderful support system there in your loving family and of course you have the well wishes and support of your online family as well. I also know you’ll somehow find a way to accomplish your goals regardless of the cast! get well soon!

  41. Well…hot chocolate is pretty yummy!! Maybe you and French Husband can celebrate his birthday later with lots of Mimosa!!?? Heal up fast Dear Friend!!!

  42. Brenda L. from TN.

Get well soon….chocolate actually sounds pretty good…take care and follow Doctor’s orders…

  43. FH can consider you as his unopened birthday gift saved for later!!

  44. Only you could make staying in a hospital sound “romantic”! You do more lying in a hospital bed than most people do in the normal course of a day. Sincerest get well wishes from Bellingham, Washington!!! Really enjoy your blog, Corey ~
    Debi @ Ormolulu.com

  45. Dear Corey,
Praying that you mend quickly so you may continue life’s adventures!!

  46. gosh…..menus in hospital..?? heal fast & enjoy your first mimosa when you get home..x0x

  47. Oh Corey, You amaze me with your continued sense of humor, snapping photos in the hospital, and blogging
