Tongue in Cheek Antiques Little Finds from the French Brocante

Tongue incheek antique banner 3

My online Brocante is at last opened.

This time around it has been a family affair, yet another silver lining from falling off the ladder. French Husband and Chlesea have been helping me, or I should say feeding me doses of brocante bug drugs!

Silver Vial with Wreath

I have been taking the photos of the brocante things with my iPhone, and then sending them with a click to my brocante blog. Easy breezy. I have yet to master non blurry photos, but overall I am content with the results considering I cannot hold my SLR camera for months to come.

Stamp of a Shield

French Husband has been writing the script for the paypal buttons, and the needed details to sell the items online, a time consuming process.

Metal Mesh Coin Purse

Chelsea is the packer.

Each night after dinner, the three of us "do the brocante" around the dining room table.

Their enthusiastic help has been the best medicine.

Buckle

What has surprised me most is their pulling things to the side declaring that they want it.

"They" who do not like the brocante are getting bit.

I tell you it is a dangerous undertaking doing the brocante.

Of course our dining room has become a warehouse.

And packages are sent off to Japan, New Zealand, England, Canada, the USA, Africa….

Numeral Stamp Roller

Isn't this sweet? A roller number stamp.

It sold yesterday.

Fatima Door Knocker

Letter Mail Slot

I must admit it is sad to see such sweet little old things leave their homeland and venture to faraway places. Or maybe I am projecting my own feeling of leaving one place to another on them. Or maybe I am thinking too much.

Anyway, we are all one, and this planet is our home and the thing are things, sweet and durable.

Violin stamp

Cooper stamp of a musical theme on a wooden base.

Out of the million French brocantes on any given weekend, out of the million boxes of things, I am always amazed at the little discoveries that come home with me.

My online brocante will soon have another helper…

My Belle Mere offered to come help me.

I am so happy!

She is 83 years old and coming to help… she lives on the other side of France!

Wonders never cease…. OH the Joy of shattering my wrist!

Mme.devins

This little enamel plaque sold too.

If you haven't taken a peek into my shop please do… you might have the brocante bug bite you too.

The link to my Tongue in Cheek Antique online shop is on the top right corner of this blog. Anytime you want to peek inside just click that button.

Small Green Box

Many of you have offered to come and help. Thank you.

Many of you have encouraged me to write that book…. Denise being the biggest cheerleader.

Many of you make my day by buying in my shop.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

If you are interested in bigger antiques, and have a transporter let me know.

The brocante world is my oyster… is that how the saying goes?

Decorative Holder

The items I sell include postage and tax, which make up for a large part of the cost. The profit goes to paying for my drug…brocanting.

What is your drug?

Music?

Art?

Food?

Sports?

Shoes?

queen pendant

Jewelry?

communion ribbon

Brocanting has it all….

It is a sport, that sets my feet a dancing, which makes me buy more shoes and keeps me  hungry for more.

  1. Scrabble, Monopoly – family games often taking place at the dining table…..and the newest family game “doing the brocante”. That broken wrist is awful, but it did bring you something nice to compensate for the pain and suffering :-).
Many lovely things in your shop. Once I get a proper job in Poland, I am going to treat myself to something.

    My drug ???
    SILENCE !!!!
Much addicted to silence … which is very scarce nowadays …

  3. My drug is books. Better than Xanax or Valium or whatever antianxiety, anti pain drug doctors are using these days.
So generous of people to offer to come help you. I can’t imagine what a sacrifice it would be to have to come to the south of France and stay in the Corey paradise of brocante. I was just going to offer my 19-year-old who has no duties except to learn French for the next 3 months.:) Some claim she is going to live out her mother’s fantasy. Who knows.
Glad to see your online brocante is in full swing. I can’t wait for the photos of Chelsea and FH following you around at the brocante carrying your packages.

  4. And how is it that I missed the numeral roller stamp? What a wonderful piece! You have also made me consider tossing my SLR. Great photos with your phone!

  5. I don’t even dare looking at your brocante; I’m having a stall in our town-brocante in the coming days…. So many things, still much loved, but no longer use(d)ful in a different setting. I used to buy tons of B&B things when living in England, quaint silver toast racks, tiny plates, egg cups, tons of old but lovely trays, table cloths and curtains for a château – always thinking that one day, I would do B&B…. Although I have had two wonderful houses since – it just never came to – all I do IS DOING B&B but not for money but for our friends…. free of charge – just because they are such dear good friends!!! And the more countries we have lived, the more friends we have from all those countries – so you see, I have things to sell on!!!!
Now to the drugs: Mine are books, books and books…. And I love music, singing, playing, listening – so quite a bit of money and much time goes into this ‘drug’ – nearly all of our holidays are being spent singing somewhere.
I much care for the drug happiness, serenity, friendship, generosity, kindness, helping…. but then I also love good food and good wines; and the company of those sitting around a table with me, our talks, and the companiable silences without a bad thought.
It’s good to see you so busy and in your element…. and you DO have the most amazing family; as much as my Hero Husband loves me, he wouldn’t touch a thing for my brocante bug….; I have to fight over every item I buy and although he always agrees that my shopping was really exactly what was needed (like a dirty chandelier for my study – ‘oooh nooooo, you won’t buy that pleaaaaaase’ to ‘this looks stunning and exactly the right thing for this high room’!) Nobody in my whole loving family would help me with anything at all; this is ‘my dirty’ business…. lol
Get well soon; all the same – you’ll need that hand again soon enough!

  6. My drug? Reading — whether books, newspapers, magazines or the Internet (including, ahem, blogs!).

  7. So glad you’ve found such a beautiful silver lining! I thought I’d kicked the brocante bug, but those little kitchen weights were sorely tempting! I used to trawl teh London markets when I was young, free and gainfully employed. Nowadays my drug is reading and chocolate, even better the two together!

  8. Food, hugs, reading about other places (one of these days the passport will get renewed), vintage and antique items, hearing from dear friends.
That is so nice of your mother-in-law to come help. Haven’t you said that, besides setting a beautiful table, she is an excellent cook?

  9. C, I love art, sailing, and all things French. Reading your post each am is top priority, keeping my French hunger alive. I have always loved antiquing too, can’t imagine how fun it must be there.
So glad the shop is up and running and that you have such awesome helpers; looking forward to getting the brocante treat I ordered!

  10. my drug of choice is brocantes, fabric, threads, antique embroidery items, French antique letters, perfume bottles that say, “made in france.” I love little boxes too.
hugs to you Corey. I am glad to see so many people helping you.

  11. How wonderful that this has become such a family affair, and that your mother in law is coming to help you! 😉

The shutter release button of my camera.
    More I dare not say.

  14. Every one is helping you Corey.
To make YOUR dream come true, isn’t life grand?!!
You’ve always put their life before yours
and now they’re are putting your priorities first.
