French Interiors: Does it get any Better?

Documents under glass la madone

My friend's (Jean and Nathalie) home at La Madone is a place I could pack in my suitcase and take away with me forever. Mind you I would need two thousand large suitcases, and two trucks.

I would take it all.

And their children too.

Dome at la madone

Nathalie and Jean have a palette of color that is eye candy softness,

a sense of sensitivity,

a swooning style…a melt in your mouth style.

Their lives are an art de vivre that I admire.

I love when friends are inspirational in one way or a million.

La madone painting

Their latest brocante discovery was a nude painting. They put it on the mantel in their living room.

Nude painting

I couldn't take my eyes off it.

Next, to the nude painting they had two glass domes filled with rolled documents, behind the glass domes they had a pair of 1900s rose floral paintings.

La madone up above

Above their mantel, a large faded mercury mirror stands. I took a photo of their chandelier, which hangs in the middle of the room, looking into their faded mercury mirror. That is to say, no matter where I put my eyes it was beautiful.

Intoxicating with inspiration.

Faded grandeur at its best.

Detail of their 18eme French trumeau.

Hand-carved gilded wood, with original grey, painted background.

Does it get any better?

Black cat

Yes, it does.

Jean and Nathalie have a gentle cat.

  1. Oh My!

  2. Two words…..CLASSIC ELEGANCE! And that goes for kitty, too 😉

  3. Fabulous home, full of charming elegance, and a wonderful kitty too! To me, a home is not a home without at least one cat!

  4. Completely satisfying palette…..sigh

  5. This is beautiful, Corey, and one could almost stroke those kitty whiskers.

  6. Two things I need to say…first, love, love, love Pinterest. Thank you for showing me this website. Brittney is also hooked on it. Second, I so want that nude painting. You showed another one from one of your trips to Paris, I wanted that one also. How can I tell my husband that I need, not want(LOL) a trip to France?

  7. Makes me fondly recall our gorgeous long-haired kitty (adopted as a young adult from Farmboy Husband’s cousin’s farm). Sasquatch’s face was mostly black but with the most magnificent long white whiskers — and he loved to spend hours on FH’s lap, whether FH was at his ergonomic computer chair or watching TV in our Amish rocker. Sasquatch is buried with our other kitties in our cat graveyard, out by the grapevines. At least we have lots of photos of him, though.

  8. It could get better if I was there right now enjoying this beauty!

  9. Wonderful photos! The cat is incredible, looks like an abstract painting with those white whiskers on black kitty fur!

  10. Brenda L. from TN.

Love the photos…especially the kitty cat…what is his/her name?

  11. Beautiful! Looks so soothing, calm, just gorgeous.
Kitty looks like mine. so sweet.
Love the friday photos. You look beautiful, and I really liked your picks on pinterest.
    Great sense of style!

  12. They do have a wonderful style!

  13. Love, love the chandelier and the mirror!

  14. Some people have a natural talent for composing their environment. Your friends are among them.

  15. Just gorgeous – that is all there is to say!! Cheers

  16. I have some friends staying at La Madone right now – from Aus, and with baby Rafferty. In the apartment I stayed in a year back – Lin (we went again last July – Apartment Baroque). I love every minute of La Madone; and particularly the scent of the Lavanderie – Nathalie must have an amazing Lavandine washing powder as it pervades the place when she’s on a blitz recycling her old linens. And then there’s Ottakar the cat; always by the pool breezing around the guests – friendly, but retains a certain aloofness! My son named him ‘Socks’ for his two white paws. We got a gentle nip once, but gentle! Brings back lovely holiday memories; thanks for posting Corey!

  17. Hi Liz,
If I had known, I would have said hello to them. We were in the apartment next to them.
