Before Thanksgiving my mother and her business partner Holly closed their shop to prepare for Black Friday. As I have lived in France for a few thousand years, I haven't been around for a "Black Friday". Needless to say I realized that it was a big day, as many of the businesses in town were preparing for it, and people were talking about it…. going to a sale at midnight!!!
My Mom and Holly were re designing their shop like crazy elves! They whipped it into a Christmas Wonderland, seemingly with a few mere snaps of their fingers and clicks of their heels.
Of course it was more work than I could imagine, and they did it in organzied record speed.
My mother's taste is the opposite of mine. Though if country style was my thing I would lap their shop up in one gulp.
They have a knack for mixing old, with new things that look old, and things most of us wouldn't even look twice at. They know how to turn anything they touch into gold.
Repurposing is their middle name. Their shop dares you not to love it.
Pink and lace you will not find.
Black and burlap are on the top of their list.
Christmas country style includes rusty bells.
I grew up in a home that looked like their shop, which is called GATHERINGS. That alone is a reason I feel good when I come inside. It is not pretenious, nor glitzy, it is cozy and warm, wrapping its old soul around you the minute you walk in.
I was lucky this year I saw the shops Thanksgiving theme, and the opening of the Christmas season.
What colors do you decorate with at Christmas?
My mother is a big fan of black, burlap, rust color and hints of cranberry.
Sounds more like a autumn drink than a style of decor!
I loved these Christmas ornaments that they had. Tiny books made to look old with pages inside to write your Christmas list…. sweet.
