Yesterday morning Annie called me.
She asked if I was awake, and if I was dressed. I said, I was but I wasn't.
Then she said, "I didn't sleep well last night, and I am not feeling well, can you bring me a bucket?"
"I"ll be right over." I jumped up, grabbed a bucket and threw a rain coat over my P.J.s and ran.
As I ran over to Annie's house I wondered why she wanted a bucket? But since I heard her say, "Not feeling well" I acted on auto pilot and not thinking pilot.
When Annie saw me with the bucket I thought she was going to die laughing. She didn't even notice my P.J.s… and Annie notices everything.
Between peels of laughter she tried to explain. "Faire un saut" is an expression to say "Hop over". Saut and Seau sound alike but have two different meanings. Saut is the verb to Jump or Hop, and Seau is a bucket.
I laughed too saying, "I thought it was odd that you wanted me to bring a bucket."
Annie was fine, she just didn't feel very well, that was all.
Now Annie has another good story to share about her American friend.
And I have learned another French lesson… "Hopping over with a bucket is good medicine."
(Note: Annie's family is devouted to her. Annie calling me to hop over is because I live two minutes away on foot.)
