1)

It has been beyond cold these last five days… 10f to 15f degrees, and colder at night. This is Provence not Alaska! Our house is heated by a fireplace… which means I am Cinderella with thick socks and slippers.

2)

My Belle Mere is visiting us. The other day I showed her how to play a game on my iPhone. Well let's just say don't bother trying to call me, she is addicted to that game worse than I am regarding the brocante.

3)

We had a friend over for dinner last night. A friend who is a Priest. We talked and talked and then sat down for dinner…and like a ding dong I forgot to say grace! Hello Ex-Monastery Chick! Hello Ding Dong who forgot grace and was going to pig out before French Husband said, "And what about grace?"

I fell for the fifth time…

The first time was when I fell off the broken ladder. The second time was with my mother in law when we went for walk along the river, I tripped, and fell on my cast! The third time I fell was after my cousin's wedding in the rain on my fresh out of the cast wrist. The fourth time was at Westport while taking photos of the sea, the sand cushioned the fall. And most recently, I slipped on a piece of lettuce at the grocery store and fell flat on my back. Utterly embarrassing as I looked up at celery, leeks, spinach…. and a lady's dress.

5)

Someone dear to me has invited me to Venice to take photos of the Carnival…. God is good even to those who forget to say grace.

……

What are five things that have happened to you these last five days?

Corey, check out the photos on my FB page–from just down the road! It is BRUTAL here!

  2. 1. It’s been very cold in Poland too and I’ve been sleeping with my socks on, flannel PJs (including a shirt and an undershirt).
    2. I drove to a place down town where I always took a bus before because I thought that the route was too complicated. It turned out the driving route was easy and shorter than the bus one and I found parking without a problem.
    3. My daughter, who is not too fond of math and has to work at it, came home from school yesterday beaming, saying they have a new math teacher who is nice and she understood EVERYTHING during class and can do her homework without help.
    4. I cooked a soup that I never cooked before with food items I found in the fridge (didn’t feel like going to the store in freezing weather). It was good.
    5. On Sunday, I visited some friends that I haven’t seen for a while.

  3. Five things in the past five days — one huge, the others small.
    1. Thursday: My abstract for a literary conference in the Azores this Spring was accepted, on a short story that a colleague and I translated into English; I thought the abstract would be, but never take anything for granted. Of course now I have lots more to do — write my paper, book my trip, renew my passport, etc. — but I’m so happy about it!
    2. Friday: A simple poem translation of mine was published on the Azores Comunidades blog last Friday:
    http://www.rtp.pt/icmblogs/rtp/comunidades/index.php?k=Holocausto-translated-into-English-by-Katharine-F-Baker.rtp&post=37928
    3. Saturday: Farmboy Husband bought a box of sweet, juicy, luscious clementines. Haven’t had them since the ones he bought at the produce market next to the Hรดtel La Louisiane in Paris last May.
    4. Sunday: Watched the latest episode of “Downton Abbey” Season 2 on PBS after the Super Bowl Sunday night, then the next day read the online blogs about it. Other Abbey-heads will enjoy checking out this article with photos of cast members juxtaposing them in costume and modern dress:
    http://www.papermag.com/2012/02/downton_abbey_stars_out_of_cos.php
    5. Monday: Enjoyed watching the debut of the new TV series “Smash” last night, a show about the creation, casting, rehearsal and opening of a Broadway musical on Marilyn Monroe. Because NBC had hyped it within an inch of its life, I was skeptical that it couldn’t match expectations, but it proved to be very entertaining (although I’d have liked to see more time devoted to the songwriting process, instead of them appearing deus ex machina).
Am still wondering what’ll happen today. Does Farmboy Husband bringing home a pizza count? How about reading your blog? Maybe just having an uneventful, peaceful, pleasant day working at what I love is enough ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. five things?
    watched superbowl
watched David Beckham commercial again on you tube!!!!
    watched Downton Abbey
    went to painting class yesterday
watched 7 squirrels eating the seeds I put out.
    Annie v.

  5. I almost set the house on fire making valentine crayons for my sons preschool class. Instead of setting the oven at 250 degree I turned it on to 250 degrees.
My Nutella Swirl Pound cake didn’t come out because the Nutella sunk to the bottom and stuck to the loaf pan. Ugh! Should have used parchment paper.
I waited to long to find an babysitter and now I can’t go to the movies with my friends on Friday.
My baby spit chicken dinner all over me because she didn’t like it!
The good thing is I have lost weight the last week.

I bought a brand NEW car for the first time in my life!! But we also now have a car payment for the first time…..a small one, but one none the less.
I made a batch of handcream this morning..for my customers
I made a batch of soap yesterday…also for my customers
I took a walk today for the first time in months….it was freezing…
And last but not least….I talked to my cousins in Florida whom I haven’t spoken to in a couple of years.
Now for heaven’s sake Corey…stop falling!!

  7. Barbara from Australia

Here in Sydney we are experiencing a wet and not very hot summer, but last Sunday under a sunny blue sky my niece/Goddaughter was married. She is nearly 40 and had thought her chances of meeting anyone had passed. Then this ANGEL (the sweetest man you could meet) appeared in her life just 1 year ago, proposal last September and wedding last weekend. I have been in wedding mode these last 5 months (her Mum, my sister, sadly passed away some 13 years ago)and the joy of preparing for this wedding has been so sublime. Miracles happen.

  8. painted painted painted painted oh, and I bought acrylic glazing liquid. something new and exciting for me! WHY DO YOU KEEP FALLING?????

  9. well always a thought provoking visit here…had a nice converstion with a guy who out of the blue asked me what i was having for dinner-chicken noodle soup and bread was my reply(maybe he wanted an invite),received an ebay purchase super fast and was WAY BETTER than pictured-so happy(a coach surf board key chain),curled up with my cat for an afternoon nap (i followed his lead) positioned myself in the sun loved it, received a one line email from an old love, which made me feel 17 again- “just to say: i love you”-melted my heart and made me wistful and prayerful at the same time-had my throat blessed in honor of St.Blaise feast day- feb.3-i adore all the other comments too- i do not always comment but i always read the comments-feel like i know some of them-Corey be safe and wear shoes with a gripping tread-function before fashion in this instance i think-

  10. Keep bundled up and warm by the fire. And NO MORE FALLING or we will need to get you a walker to hold onto. ๐Ÿ™‚ How exciting to got the Venice for Carnival. Remember grace!

  11. I am lucky to remember what I had for lunch yesterday and you are asking me to remember 5 things that happened…oh my!

  12. 1- Fell out of bed trying to get the cat out before she vomitted on my pillow. Ego bruised more than my body.
2- Said cat to the vet – antibiotics = 10 days of me trying to get a pill down a cat’s throat = scratched arms.
3- Lovely dinner out with my sweetie.
4- Sunshine and 30 degrees = wool everything
5- Fresh tulips from the florist. ๐Ÿ˜€

  13. Oh please Corey–be more careful and stop falling!
Hmm roasted a chicken, visited with friends, bought a new computer, took lots of walks with the dogs, watched old classic movies and savored every single moment of the last four days of sunny/not rainy weather. The daffodil buds are visible, tulip leaves are peeking out and the primroses are blooming!

  14. Two places I would love to visit – Paris and Venice during Carnival, you lucky girl. Five things
    1. Went to the shopping mall and walked and walked and looked and looked. Haven’t been out except to the supermarket for so long. Found a bargain shirt.
    2. Made vegetable frittata.
    3. Poured with rain (supposed to be summer)so did some cross stitch.
    4. Went through wardrobe and took some clothes to the charity shop along with some bulbs.
    5. Bought some pretty beads online called cathedral beads.
Hope you were wearing trousers or had your knickers on when you fell. I know someone who fell at the green grocers and wasn’t wearing underwear. And of course her dress ended half way up her back. She doesn’t frequent that grocery shop anymore.

  15. LauraInSeattle

You lucky dog…about Venice! But watch your step and stop falling!!!

  16. Dear Corey – what is going on with all the falls? Maybe you can change things for a while and not multi-task – do one thing at time and only one thing. I’m hoping you stay safe.
    Five things –
    1. Not only am I not exiting my antique business as planned but I got a second booth at a new mall near my home! Yeah!
    2. Went to mass on Sunday.
    3. Watched superbowl and ate some really good food.
    4. Went to my new booth and my current booth and restocked. Things are selling!
    5. Back to work…walked a mile around our building on my break. Otherwise, very busy at work…time flies when your having fun.

  17. Sharon Penney-Morrison

Corey….I would be having some talks with my Dr. to find out why I am falling so much. Not normal…just sayin. (That’s the nurse in me speaking)
You fell going up the stairs in China…remember?
Just concerned. Happy traveling. You will love all the costumes you will see.
    hugs

  18. Okay, I think you have enough falls now….please be careful. I tripped on a step a year ago (while taking pictures) and had to have surgery on my knee. I now stand still when using a camera!
    1. I was visiting my son when he received the news that no one should ever receive….a diagnosis of chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Thank you for any prayers for him.
    2. We celebrated this son’s 43rd birthday on Feb. 3. He was home and weak…I made his favorite food, cheese enchiladas.
    3. I spent yesterday morning working on my travel journal from our Germany, Austria and Switzerland trip taken last May. It was a fun trip with great memories.
    4. I received supportive calls from 2 close friends.
    5. Hubby took me out for a yummy Chinese dinner last evening.
The Venice carnival sounds like so much fun!

  19. 1. I survived supporting my husband when he had his nasal passages cleared and his nose rebroken & straightened. (he went into the operating theatre as man and they gave me back a grumpy grizzly bear with a very sore head!)
    2. Went to see a specialist with my son to find out he has Ankylosing Spondylitis (long term inflammation of the lower back)
    3. Trying to set up a roster to provide meals for a girlfriend whose son has ‘gone off the rails’
    4. Last night had a lovely evening with my sewing group girlfriends…time to share a few stories & laughs.
    5. Today I am counting my blessings that my young adult children are happy & mentally stable.

  20. So sorry to read about your son. Wishing him all the best.

  21. Cheryl ~ Casual Cottage Chic

    Ditto, Monica!!
But I was thrilled to have a kiss in the morning the past five days from my sweet husband ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. Oh great, now I have an ear-worm with the tune of “Carnival in Venice” running through my head! (Especially Alban’s arrangement of theme and ornamental variations for cornet). Can hardly wait to experience the Venetian Carnival vicariously through your camera/words/blog! Will tell you another time re Carnaval on your ancestors’ island of Terceira, as it’s different from anything else I’ve ever heard of.

  23. 70 degrees here in Arizona but that’s the price we pay for living without green, celebrated Mom’s 82nd birthday, gave her a Kindle (her first sort-of computer), read a book in a record 4 days as someone at the library reserved it so I couldn’t renew it, continued blowing my diet and exercise plans, worried over Mom’s upcoming breast biopsy.

  24. 1. Watched the Patriots loose the superbowl.
    2. Went to Mystic Chorale practice.
    3. Talked to my daughter in India via skype.
    4. Marvel each time at technology!
    5. Went out to lunch with my other daugter.

  25. rockpaperscissors

    1. Watched painters paint the first floor of our home.
    2. Watched the painters some more
    3. Watched painters even more
    4. Now feel that painters are part of my family and will miss their company.
    5. Today watched my daughter get married by way of a web camera with my painters.
Hugs and send u a birthday wish today also…..

  26. Brenda, Walker, LA, USA

Is there an equilibrium problem, please check it out, it’s less trouble to go to Doc and get checked than falling again and hurting yourself! Please?
    1. Things that has happened in Five days:
The sale of some very sweet objects have gone out the door of my shop and I felt regret. Just makes me hunt for more with a fervent energy.
    2. The answers to some prayers were very evident, Thank you, Lord!
    3. The return of messages from an old friend
    4. The realization of some painful facts. But that is ok, bring it on. (Lots of new things on my prayer list)
    5. New Haircut, new color!

  27. Beatnheart

Selling my jewelry on etsy. Getty museum on pch. Used my first anvil. Saw Liam Nelson in Anthropology. Did a headstand.

  28. Many thanks, Jenny!

  29. May everything turn out okay and best wishes with your family and friend.

  30. barbara woods

try not to fall in the cannels

  31. Corey – I’m sorry to hear you are a clutz like me. ๐Ÿ™‚ My husband has MS but I manage to fall all the time. At least you are on tricky spots like ladders. I can fall just standing on solid ground. Ugh. Gets old, doesn’t it? Be careful!!! (I have also fallen going UP stairs – not so hard to do.)
Don’t worry about not saying grace in front of a priest – happens to the best of us. I’m worse than you – sometimes while my husband starts praying I sneak a bite of food into my mouth. I’m too hungry at dinnertime to wait for a 15 second prayer to conclude.
I don’t lead much an interesting life to have 5 things happen, but I’ll try.
    1. Got the car washed TWO times in a week (does not happen often I’m embarrassed to admit)
    2. Have walked the dogs every day
    3. Managed to get a full night of sleep last night
    4. Got tickets to the Scavi Tour at St Peter’s for next summer
    5. Made airplane reservations for Paris and Rome for next summer
OK, now that I think about it, I’m having a great week!!! Except we have not cold weather and no snow. Share it with us!!!

  32. LA CONTESSA
