Venice for the Carnival

Statue in snow

Today at five I headed for Venice.

They say it would be cold… unusually cold, similar to the cold front that hit France.

Think snow.

I might not be able to take a single photo of the Carnival because my fingers will be Popsicles.

But …. it wasn't cold today. Life is full of surprises!

My blogging friend, Merisi, who lives in Austria, though lived in Italy for several years and then lived in the USA for twenty or so years, and well speaks languages like I eat chocolate: Nice and easy, sweet as can be. Told me, "Join me in Venice, I have a place and need to take some photos… have press passes… What are you waiting for?"

Well one doesn't need to pull my arm very hard when it comes to traveling. And if you must know I have a thing for tasting a country

I asked Merisi for directions, and I swear this is what she said,

"Fly to Venice. Then take a bus to the train Station Santa Lucia and meet me at Platform Ten."

When I asked what bus, and where it was located, and if it was complicated?"

She reasured me, "Venice is small. You will figure it out."

The entire flight I kept saying to myself, "Venice is small…. with a million bridges and waterways."

Small and beautiful.

I am in Venice talking Mersis' ears off,

And when I am not talking her ears off, my jaw is dragging in awe on the ground.

And if I am not gawking and talking I am stuffing my mouth with pastries.

Photos of Venice to follow.

  16. I went to Venice as a child of 9 and mostly remember it being watery and smelly…….I returned slightly unwillingly when I was 44 and wasn’t expecting great things apart from some snooty waiters and too many tourists.
What a delicious surprise was in store for me, I completely fell in love with the place and long to return as soon as possible.
    Venice is a treat.
