Classic Venetian Masked Ball… 18 eme Style.

I wished I could have gathered those dressed in 18 eme Venetian ball Style and put them in one spot. Then stepped back, soaked it in…. Venice as it was when mask were worn daily.

I stood in awe.

In wonder at those who have love for life, tradition, style, creativity… who celebrate the moments at hand with gusto.

I smiled deep inside. Happy, thankful, grateful to be part of such a wonderous time.

Why did I wait so long to come to the carnival in Venice?

  1. Drink it all in, in great gulps, drink it in…

  2. Corey, in an earlier post you mentioned something re Merisi having a press pass. So I was wondering whether this ball was something limited that you two were able to enter only because of the press pass, or whether all comers can get in. In any event, what a grand opportunity for you — you ask, “Why did I wait so long to come to the carnival in Venice?” but I’d reply that it’s just because you were doing other marvelous things in life as well!

I like crowds less and less lately so I can’t imagine this is something I will ever attend. Lucky for me – you are taking me there 🙂

  4. Online videos from the Carnaval on the island of Terceira in Portugal’s Azores — including one of the performance of a musical skit at the São Bento hall by the group from the nearby village of Feteira(!) — next best thing to being there!

Your photos are more and more astonishing with every post – I’m just lapping up this trip of yours. And I agree with you, the classic 18eme masks and costumes are the most evocative of all, against the backdrop of Venice. Just wonderful. So many thanks!

  7. Corey, what a masterful photo: the one with The Doctor mask with long beak with the symbol of Venice, the winged lion in the background. You have a wonderful eye for detail. I love sharing the images of your travels.

I think you should get your hair done like the woman with the tall blond Venetian-style beehive!

  9. Corey, You are one of those “who have love for life, tradition, style, creativity…who celebrate the moments at hand with gusto.” You just described yourself and your time at Carnival!

  10. Beautiful! Love seeing the masks, but that hair and lacy mask is just gorgeous! Have you been to visit a glass artist?

  11. Ahh – you have lost your heart to Venice – many of us have. It is magical, especially late at night when most of the ‘tourists’ have left. I am loving your photos.

  12. The masks, the people, the architecture – gorgeous. Thanks Corey.

I’ve been following your story about Carnivale and loving every minute of it. The shot of the man with the bird mask is spectacular! ALL the photos are great! Just think, you’ll have a whole year to make a costume to wear when you go back next year! Corey, could you please tell us if all of the scaffolding is down around St. Marks?

Bravo, although I find masks a bit creepy, I have to say these are works of art!
