Why Not Be Every Good Thing You Can Be?

Icarnival venice must see

While in Venice, there was a moment that hit me– You know those moments, those ah-ha moments that stop you in your tracks– That make you wake up, and say,

"Oh course, why didn't I think of that before?"

Walking on sunlight venice carnival

One of my ah-ha moments came after the 2000th photo at the carnival.

"Why do I dress so comfortably, ordinary, simple, basic, boring… Gee!!! Life is meant to be colorful, expressive, joyous, CELEBRATED!

The costumes at the carnival in Venice made me explode with wonder….

"Why not live in FULL COLOR?!"

My age doesn't matter, nor my size, nor my fear.. life is meant to be enjoyed and shared.

I need to wear….

Bows on my shoes, lace on my socks, dripping jewels, ribbons, hats, a vial of perfume in between my bosom… Why not live a little instead of wearing jeans and a tee shirt?

Moreso I need to live life with a heart wide open!

Why not?

If the shoe fits... venice

If the shoe fits…wear it!

Dress up venice

Men dressed up as women,

Women dressed up as men,

People expressing femininity / masculinity as joyous qualities to behold, to have! People expressing joy! Beauty! Wonder! Fun! Creativity!

Flowers in your hair venice

Live………a…………….lot……………. and live it well.

Why drink water when you can drink champagne?

The practical me responds… Water is perfect. Simple and good."

Venice carnival reflections

Though the ah ha me jumped up and down laughing, "Add lemon and a sprig of mint (!) Hell, dump it out and drink sunlight with marshmellow clouds! And shower everyone you know with hugs, kisses and a whole lot of love."

  1. I love those moments of clarity, i just need to live the life. Send up a prayer for me, I need to leverage!!

  2. Corey,
Your photos are fabulous. I can’t get over the color, the costumes and the different poses! WOW!! I think that is the best word to describe it. Thanks for sharing. It looks like you are having a marvelous time.

  3. To Do List:
Go to Venice – scratch that.
Go to Venice during the Carnival.

  4. I enjoy looking at others doing these fabulous things, yet I increasingly crave simplicity and practicality in my own life, so I can allot what’s left of my time/energy to what matters most to me.

  5. You inspire me. Thank you.

  6. Brenda L. from TN.

Corey, you haven’t told us if the two of you are dressed up as well…are you?
    Enjoy!

  8. Loving all the costumes! Blue sky..perfect weather 😉 FABULOUS!!

  9. Oh I love this post, Corey! The thoughts here stir in my mind. Oh to drink sunlight with marshmallow clouds. The costumes and the open hearts to be who they want to be is delightful. I want the shoes with the roses there and live in full color, so why am I wearing black? Hummm!

Thank you so much for reminding me that life is short and they have invented Technicolor and 3D and Surround Sound just for those of us who are more likely to rein in our spirits. I’m going to try to live a Carnival moment every day to set my spirits soaring. Thanks for the heads up!!!

  11. Beautifully written my friend.

  12. Corey, promise me you will
    read: The Venetian Mask
    by Rosalind Laker. You
    will not be disappointed.
    Thank you!

Dear Corey, this is what Venice does to you. I fell in love with her on my first visit and I think it is because it is the fairy tale that has come to life, the treasure we dream of finding. In this sometime harsh world it is the magical place of our dreams. So happy and grateful you are sharing her with us. I hope she will always be there!

You said you need to “live life with a heart wide open”.
From what I can see you do this already, and better than anyone else I know.
Thank you for another wonderful vacation!

  15. Excellent advice Corey! I’m enjoying
the trip through your camera lens!

  19. What a feast of color, beauty and emotions!

  20. I totally agree with Kathleen from Oregon! And yes, why on earth am I dressed in monochrome today and almost every day? Love this post, and your pictures are just incredible xo

  21. jend’isère

You’re challenging me as I must wear green, yellow and purple tonight to a Mardi Gras party in France à la NEW Orleans…

PS : Even the greys, the creams, and the beiges look sensationnally colourful there !

  26. Thanks for taking us to all those beautiful moments in Venice. So glad you are having such a fantastic time and thanks for sharing it with us!

  27. I love the image of living life in color. No more dulling experiences down to a dull gray. Wake up!! Live out loud!!!

  28. I agree with you in dressing with color, class and punch with style! This world has become soooooo casual with jeans, tee-shirts and tennis shoes everywhere you go. Everyone’s personal dress statement needs to be found again with an appreciation for what color and beautiful fabrics can do for your sense of expression and appreciation for what nature gives us in color every day. So, Sunshine and Marshmellow drinks for everyone! Love that line, Corey.

  29. The AHHHA moment hit me a few years ago!I wear long velvet coats to the grocery store…tons of real jewels and lots of color!Considered strange by most……….but I dont give a DAM!I own it so I wear it and most days get a few compliments which always boosts the morale!
Your photos are priceless!Make a table top book with these!PLEASE!I will be the first to buy!!!!!!!!!!!!

  30. Do you suppose colors look more intense when shone upon by light reflected off the water?

  31. We were our black, gray, and white, but are always drawn to the woman who is in color and think to ourselves, “Why can’t I dress like that.”
We are the only one’s stopping us from doing so. We just have to be accepted and dare not tread in color.
This is why I am drawn to Pat, our friends. She is one colorful lady, even sick.

  32. That would be the word, “wear” not were!! duh

  33. Thank you for taking us to Venice with you. What an amazing experience! The sunlight, the costumes, the atmosphere: some of life’s ‘Perfect Moments,’ I call them. No way to duplicate exactly; savor the moment!
your prose goes perfectly w/ the photos. Why DO we choose to live life plainly, when we only have ONE CHANCE at LIVING!? Corey, you said it ALL!
    enjoy your day!

  34. Wonderful insight, Corey! (And add a rose to that vial of perfume in your bosom!)

  35. Well said!
I was thinking about my dull wardrobe the other day. As I pulled on yet another pair of black sweat pants I remembered that I was voted “best dressed” in high school. How have I strayed so far???
    I feel inspired!

  36. Corey, I think you live life more than any one I know or any blog I read. You explore, travel, leave no stone unturned especially in your love and curiosity of old things. Thanks for the reminder to get out of the rut and really really live and see what is right in front of us. Your pictures are fabulous, and I hope and pray I get to travel to Venice one day. You opened my eyes again to a beautiful part of the world that I might have never even wondered about.
    xoxo

  37. The costumes are gorgeous…no wonder you are giddy with life. You both should get some costumes to wear and take each others pictures
Thanks for sharing your life ….your life is amazing:)
    Enjoy:)

  38. I feel rather dull at the moment after reading this, gonna get some color and feathers. I love feathers.

  39. Massilianana

As always, your pictures are amazing , I particularly love the pink shoe !!! Looks like you got great colorful and exciting vibes from this carnival !
I couldn’t agree more with you about wearing colors : I have what I call a “parrot side” in me and I simply love colors , I wear them EVEN during winter time. Just an example : during the sales , I bought a nice warm orange coat that I wear with a purple feathers scarf.
So I’m with you on that, and also the bows, the perfume and the jewelry. And le champagne, bien sûr !!!

  40. Life is improved by a closet full of well fitting, perfectly tight jeans to dress up or down! What can I say! :o)
