Four French Guys and a Pasta Drainer

Sacha lived in a studio while going to school in Arles. He was happy enough, loves his classes, well most of them that is, and has a solid group of new friends. Though after a few months, he and his friends realized that they were often at each other studios: doing homework together, eating dinner, watching TV, doing laundry, hanging out… It didn't take them long to agree that it would be better to rent a big house and be room-mates (nearly unheard of in France) then remain lonely in their individual studios spread out around the town.

Sacha moves in a few weeks. He and his soon to be room-mates talked about the room mate kind of stuff, who gets what room, how to do the food thing, sharing clean up…

One room-mate said he has a TV,

Another said he had a table and chairs,

Another offered a microwave and a oven,

Sacha gulped and said, "I have a great shower curtain and pasta drainer."

Oh the joys of room-mates!

Do you have any ROOM MATE stories to share?

  1. Gotta love youth, don’t ya!
One of my college roommates remains a friend to this day, forty odd years later.

  2. How interesting that it is uncommon there but oh so common here. Have a great day and blessings! Kimberly

  3. I’m wondering why the difference in France?
On another note… I took myself off to the bookstore yesterday basically to avoid all the things that needed doing at home. I picked up a magazine I’d never seen before found a comfy seat and started to read. I opened to the page that said An American in France: Finding love, treasure and a passion for French flea market finds and thought to myself “I wonder if Corey knows her?” I turned the page and the first sentence read: “Though Corey Amaro move to France for love, she found passion (for beautiful old things, that is) at the flea market.” I laughed out loud thinking Of course! Beutiful photos of your home. For those wondering the magazine is called Flea Market Decor.
Maybe Sacha wants some decorating advice????

Too many stories to count and none appropriate for posting and sharing with the public!!! 🙂 Fun times and memories ahead for Sasha!

I saw film yesterday “Le Garconiere” or “The Apartmen”t with the famous scene where Jack Lemman ses a tennis racket to drain the spaghetti for Shirley McClaine.

He also has a charming smile and a fabulously talented mother with a large fan base 🙂
I remember my first day in the dorm when I went off to college. As soon as our parents had left, my new “roomie”, whom I had never met, told me she had secretly gotten married and her new husband was going to be living in a trailer in the parking lot. She hadn’t told her parents because they didn’t like him, “just because he had been to jail a few times”.
I moved into a different room a week later 🙂

  7. that story is too funny, that photo too amazing!

His mother’s son! I’d be so proud of him.

  9. Re college roommates: Perhaps Sacha, after his “gap year” in the US, is introducing aspects of American culture into his university. Party on!

  10. Brother Mathew

    Exactly what I was thinking.

  11. LOL, with four guys they’ll probably use the pasta strainer more than the TV.

  12. What a wonderful time. Agree the pasta strainer will be so handy and in big demand!

Five Women…One house….ONE bathroom. Leave the rest to your imagination.

  14. Oh, my! I had transferred in as a junior after two years staying at home and attending college 200 miles away. Roomate I knew nothing about was 4 years older than I. She behaved strangely, had raging crushes on her profs, had a breakdown after Christmas and was gone by Feb. I was naive and ill prepared to deal with her and her problems. I never knew what happened to her….this was 40 years ago…thankfully, I did graduate a year and a half later!

  15. Just one of my random “pop in’s @ Corey’s blog” and you have me in stitches… which is no good at all. I am still nursing a very ‘attaching’ bronchite and I should neither speak nor laugh – because after I start coughing for 10 minutes and feel 140 for another two hours…..
How funny, funny, funny….. and good thinking of their part! I didn’t know that people in France don’t share board….
And Sasha has so much to offer: An excellent taste in furnishing/painting/decorating amongst many other qualities 🙂 And he has got YOU for a mum; THAT should do wonders on its own…. AND a pasta strainer is VERY important in a flat-share….
Fab photo – so absolutely wonderful!!!!!
Thanks for the kick-off, much love

  16. Much more fun – as long as they can share the cooking and cleaning up afterwards! – maybe having the pasta drainer will make Sacha the pasta king.
We were six women in a house with one bathroom, but it meant only having to cook once a week each and was a whole lot cheaper and less lonely.

Awesome post and beautiful pics Thanks for sharing

Ah… I would have done the same on the spot !
Now don’t you think that “roomie” created the whole story to get rid of you and to share the room with her boyfriend (or husband !)?

My first roommate in college was a drug dealer. It took me a while to figure out why she had so many strange “friends” visiting at all hours of the day and night. I lasted one whole semester with her…
