A Sunday Pre-Spring Lunch

Stone doorway

The door leading into lunch was a feast in itself.

I licked my lips thinking, "It is sooooo good to have dessert first."

Sunday lunch with friends.

Some details to chew on….

Dried flowers in a vase

Dried flowers in a vase, remnants of last summer.

Flax and tack covered chait

Linen covered chair, I love the exposed nail heads, stands proudly on a two hundred year old floor.

French white cotton curtains letting in a hint of Spring.

Sunshine, the light of Spring is different isn't it?

As the day was too good to be true, we took our lunch outside.

Provencal lunch basket

A surprisingly warm March day….

The aperitif was served outside.

Brought out in a basket.

Oh my was my heart doing a happy dance.

The details surrounding me where straight out of a movie.

Garden chairs French

Two garden chairs called out, "We are over here, ready to be set up after a long winter."

Garden table

Enjoying the moment with friends.

Outside in March!

Outdoor lunch

We carried the table outside.

Lunch was served around the French table.

A feast of laughter, conversation, friendship and homemade

  1. It’s been good. Church and home and then church again tonight.

  2. NICE! Your Sunday is nicer than mine – especially the food!
Also went to Church and will eat dinner out this evening. But not outdoors and not with amazing home-make desserts! Send me a slice please??? 🙂

Oh yes, easy to see why you had a feast for all senses! 🙂
The apple tart looks oh so beautiful. I want to go to the school where they teach the skills!

Like just about every day, my Sundays consist of translating, translating, and more translating (as if you’d be surprised!). The good news is that the Portuguese short story whose English rendering I’ll be presenting at a conference in the Azores is just about finished being polished, so now I can write the talk to accompany it; I already have the accompanying PowerPoint display pretty well completed — because, even for a writer, a picture’s worth 1000 words!
Today’s whether is grey and chilly, with intermittent snow flurries. The good news it that a mild front is forecast to pass through here in a few days, and since this week is Farmboy Husband’s spring break, he and a retired neighbor — by sheer coincidence of French extraction on his father’s side! — plan to get started pruning our blueberry bushes before their buds can swell too much.

    Ack! Homonym alert: Today’s WEATHER…

My Sunday was nowhere near as enchanting as yours, Corey! Thanks for the lovely images (and great links!)

P.S. In the 4th photo, that blue plaid looks EXACTLY like a Dan River gingham from which I made myself a shirt in my youth! Déjà vu all over again, to quote Yogi Berra.

French Lunch is really something for the eyes of outsiders. Like you, I love French lunch and i would like to share with you all my French lunch in

Feel so lucky to be living in this counrty that takes food so seriously.

  9. Still early and can get into all kinds of mischief. So far it was church….so many people sneezing and sniffling…I refused to shake hands with anyone today….just smiled and said “Peace”.
Going to lunch with DH at a sports grill & bar. We live in a city where there is Nascar racing…one of the circuit spots and our city is hopping with visiters (100k vistiors). I always watch (TV) the beginning of the race where all the cars are lined up….engines roaring waiting for the green flag…then on the loud speaker…”Gentlemen, start your engines”…gives me goosebumps.
Then I must work on my two antique booths. I love to turn on a good classic movie while I work. That’s my day.

  10. Warsaw was also sunny today though still a bit on a chilly side. Nevertheless, my two girlfriends and I inaugurated our Nordic Walking season. It was good to be outside exercising.

This week has been crazy, especially the weather. My youngest son hit a patch of ice on the drive to school… The car is totaled, he has no injuries, not even a scratch or bruise. I am so thankful no one was hurt.
What did I do today? I made him his favorite cake!
    (and the sun is shining!)

  12. Yummy! All the food looks fabulous and I’m sure teh company made it even tastier.
I’m off to have lunch with my parents today, Korean food.

  13. Ohh, the apple tart looks yummy. Today I made a rustic pear tart because I had some old pears to use up, I did some work on items for my next show and I took 88 year old auntie Charlotte to the store for groceries. While there we sampled some freshly made coffee, some bleu cheese wrapped in hot and sweet peppers and a bit of Irish soda bread. Pretty good.

  14. Started slow cooking some chicken. Lunch was a cheese sandwich-your lunch looks much better. Then spent over two hours outside weeding the rose beds. The yard waste bin is full Next week the rosebushes get their spring trim. It is nice to see the neighbors walking around and visiting. We’d all hibernated in the cold winter weather.

  15. Sunny on the northern calif. coastline. Short walk near the ocean. Made black beans and enjoyed a nice salad and quinoa and black beans. Practiced ukulele.
Will watch more of Journey into Buddhism, a movie/meditation/pilgrimage to Thailand, Java, Cambodia, Tibet and other countries. Beautiful ancient temples. Traveling without traveling.

  16. Corey, just perfect, the best lunch I can think of, good friends, beautiful settings and French food.
PS. The chair and the floor and the old stone wall … so beautiful!!!

I just knew from the very beginning it would be Nathalie & Jean Bernard. How absolutely lovely. Still freezing here brrrrrr Jx

    Here
in South Florida, spring has sprung too soon. Thankfully, yesterday, a blustery wind blew in showers that cleared all the hot air leaving a delightfully cool day.
Dinner grilled outside was even sweeter… Can’t beat the French countryside though…
    Best, Lisa

Our Sunday was Quiche Lorraine followed by a family game of badminton overlooking the San Francisco Bay. I finally defrosted myself 😉

I love the blue plaid fabric. Want a skirt made of that material. Have a photo to show me the rest of it (and who’s wearing it) please?
