Saturday Art Saves: Flower Wild Designs

Each Saturday I focus on a different artist that I admire. From potters to painters, chefs to collectors, seamstress to songwriters, lifestyle to lovers… anyone who set the paintbrush, pastry brush, hands and heart on fire to create.

Those who inspire art to flow where it may.

Today Floral design by:

Kate Holt in her studio: "I don't use floral foam or wire frogs. I prefer to let flowers dictate the form rather than the other way around ― bouquets turn out more unique that way.

"And I never use flowers as fillers, since I want every flower in the bouquet to be noticed."

Kate Holt, "Would I say that flowers run through my veins? Perhaps, poetically speaking. What I know for certain is that my love for flowers comes from my family, from wonderful memories of planting gardens with my parents, from building my own family, watching them grow, and then finally helping my client with their vision of their wedding day."

Kate goes on to say on her blog, "What can I say…obviously I love love love flowers; and this is a great place for me to share everything we do here at Flowerwild with the world at large. Our company is a small family run business located in Los Angeles. We travel throughout California servicing weddings and events with exceptional flowers and enjoy every minute of it. In the words of my parents it is so important to…"Follow your Bliss."

Kate Holt knows that flowers have a delicate purpose, a tender reason for being, she gives them form to take root in love.

Kate lets flowers talk to each other instead of complicating their richness. The mix is subtle and yet bold. Unexpected perfection.

  2. She has a wonderful eye, it is fantastic to see someone so good at what they do enjoy is so much as well. Maybe that is why she’s good. Bravo Kate.

  3. Beautiful! When I was growing up my mom always had some type of fresh floral arrangement in the kitchen. In the spring it could be just a small vase of violets. If we didn’t have flowers in bloom in the yard then it was an arrangement of various branches and leaves. Always artfully arranged. Who would have known simple hosta leaves could be so beautiful. I know it has shaped the way I look at and appreciate nature. I love flowers!
Have a lovely time at your wedding.

  4. Her flowers are gorgeous! Can I get married again and have her flowers? Happy day today in the snow.

  5. Awesome! She is so very talented. When I was a little girl and visited with Grandma, Favorite Aunty would make sure I got a big bouquet from her beautiful garden. I still remember this kind gesture and do the same for friends’ children now. My garden will never be as beautiful as Aunty’s, but I love it when it is in full splendor. How many people realize that little kids like flowers too? Thanks for reminding me of this great memory.

  6. Love her work! You might also enjoy that of Susan Nadler of Flora Grubb. Very interesting work using succulents that can be replanted. Enjoy your time at the wedding!
