Blue Sea, White Sand… Biosphere

Blue-sea-white-sand

We drove down a long road not a person did we see.

We walked down a trail only knowing that the beach was certainly there.

We heard the waves, a few birds, and the palms blowing in the breeze.

White sand.

Add a few clouds for the sake of definition.

Shades-of-blue

And a million, and I mean a million shades of sparkling blue.

French-Husband

Even French Husband's shirt matched the color of the sea.

Tulum dream

I closed my eyes, opened them again, laughed out loud,

"Paradise found."

Then I hugged French Husband, and kicked off my sandals.

Skinny dipping tulum

When I turned around, French Husband had taken off far more than his shoes….

He looked at me and said, "What? Do you see anyone around?"

"No."

"Well then?"

A "FOR SALE" sign on a palm tree did not blink an eye.

"Sian Kaán in Mayan means "Where the sky is born". Enter a world unknown to all but the 1000 plant, 330 bird and 103 mammal species who reside in Sian Kaán Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. This 5280 square kilometer natural park can be accessed from Mahaual in the south or Tulum in the north. It is bordered by the Caribbean sea and the world´s second longest continuous coral reef (110 kms). Filled with Caribbean bays and lakes of various salinity levels, the Sian Kaán Bioreserve is the birthplace for most of the Atlantic ocean´s fish population."

  8. Sian Kaán is a favorite of my Frencher Half and mine, too. Skinny dipping in its waters is one adventure that we haven’t yet had though!

  10. How funny that we both posted today on sand and sea, from totally different parts of the world!
Your Mexico posts have been such a visual feast, Corey – just wonderful – and make me long to explore these places. What a wonderful time you’re having.
Hugs from sunny Cape Town xo

  11. That is paradise, indeed. I spent a week in the Caribbean and it was the only vacation I never wanted to go home from. The colors, warm water and tranquility….sigh.

  16. The “For sale” sign kept me reflecting about this beautiful stretch of unspoiled paradise. Let’s hope it’s not an ominous sign for trouble!

  17. Is it any cooler there than in Meridá?

  18. I envy you the experience. I love the Tulum ruins and want to go to Sian Kaan. Haven’t made it yet, but this is sooo inspiring.
