Each Saturday I focus on a different artist that I admire. From potters to painters, chefs to collectors, seamstress to songwriters, lifestyle to lovers… anyone who set the paintbrush, pastry brush, hands and heart on fire to create.
Those who inspire art to flow where it may.
"Nathalie Boutté is a talented French artist who uses thousands of simple strips of paper to create impressive collages.
Born in 1967, Nathalie lives and works in Montreuill, near Paris, where she experiments with all kinds of types of paper, to obtain the results she desires. She has always been passionate about paper, and has worked with everything from tissues to old novel pages and lately, translucent tracing paper."
"After the sheets of tiny pieces of paper have been cut into narrow long strips, they are layered similar to provencal roof tiles, revealing only the tips, also they remain one of pixels in a giant collage. Most of Nathalie's art work is oversized. The dedicated artist says she isn’t scared of working with large formats, on the contrary, the bigger the collage, the more impressive it is."
As Aristotle once said 'The whole is greater than the sum of its parts'…
"Nathalie is neither a photographer nor a sculptor nor a painter, her collages are all of these things. Her creations are derived from her knowledge of paper and volumes. She cuts long narrow strips of paper that she patiently assembles, one by one thus creating a feather effect which constantly evolves. She uses colour and greys as well as tracing paper and sometimes she mixes Indian ink or gold sheets with the paper to create an even more varied effect."
"Nathalie is self-taught, she has no specialist degree or training, what she knows she has taught herself through passion. She is not opposed to formal training, but she believes that the key to knowledge has always resided in the practical side of experimenting with materials. "
