Cassis France: What is your Passion?

Coastline-cassis

Cassis is a small port town on the Mediterranean sea near Marseille. It is about fifteen minutes away  from where we live. Cassis is a perfect pearl of pleasure: A blue sea, a sweet town, a wonderful pocket of restaurants and cafes, not too chic but far away from shabby, stunning scenery, trails galore, a magnificent cliff and most of all is at our doorstep.

Whenever anyone comes to visit us we go to Cassis. Cassis is my backyard… I do not know how many times I have been there.

A blogging friend, Becky and her husband Frank, came to visit us the other day. We met in Cassis. While there Becky asked me, "Do you ever grow numb to all of this (implying to the beautiful scenery of France.)?" I shook my head no and said, "In fact I think I am appreciating it more and more!"

How could I ever grow numb to the Mediterranean sea? Even if I tried it would splash me awake!

We spent the afternoon walking around admiring Cassis, and talking about everything under the sun.

Becky too loves photography.

Many times our cameras where aiming at the same detail.

Facades, fountains, windows, bakeries, the sea…

Frank in Aix

Frank and French Husband talking at the edge of a street. We had lost them, many times over as they thought we were in a shop or taking photos somewhere. They talked and talked! Becky and I often had to go backtrack to find them. Imagine that backtrack I loved it.

Frank asked French Husband what was his passion… instead of saying me (no points for him) he said, "Caving, cliff hanging, flying, mountain bikes…"

Frank later said, "Your husband is a wild man." I thought to myself yeah my husband likes the adrenalin rush of fear.

Thankfully French Husband and Frank didn't rope down the cliff of Cassis on the Route to Crete.

I will never grown numb to this place. It awes me with its wow factor every time!

Becky and frank

Thank you Becky and Frank for visiting us, for your wonderful friendship and thoughtfulness.

By the way Becky is a critical care nurse by day… but her passionate talent is jewelry making! She made me a stunning silver wire pearl bracelet… it is so beautiful she that she could quit her day job and make a living from her passion. Now that is an adrenalin rush I would jump on if I had it!

Plus!!! Frank has a romantic secret that he is going to give Becky in Paris for their twenty fifth wedding anniversary. Major points scored!

Love the retro snapshot framing on your pics today! I have good memories of our brief visit to Cassis for lunch en route home last summer. Next time I would love to do a cliff walk and shop with you!

PS: My passion is travelling, which I suspect could be yours, right after brocante-ing 🙂

  3. My passion? Knitting, discovering new books that are delightful to read, giving gifts that fit the person just right, making food, learning new things about the Bible.

French and English antiques…passionate about them! Cassis is on my bucket list. What a wonderful 25th anniversary for the couple who visited. Envy…can’t talk my hubby onto a plane anymore.

Oh, Corey! Farmboy Husband and I have such warm memories of stopping with you in Cassis for a cold drink at an outdoor café, and exploring the town and its environs in early May of last year. But I can’t believe it’s really been a whole year already; where did the time go?
Even if you’ve never been to Cassis, some of you may be experiencing dejà vú at the sight of the images above. This could be due to the fact that some of the scenes near the beginning of the classic movie “The French Connection” were filmed right along the waterfront, and in 40 years it’s scarcely changed!
My passion? The Portuguese and English languages, and my paternal family’s ancestral Azores. Sem dúvida!

Ahhh, to walk the streets of Cassis with you as a guide, what a joy that would be.
My passion? Other than my husband and hunting for vintage treasures, I’m not sure. I’ve been asking myself this very question lately. Perhaps it is just life, all of it.

My passion is traveling. Cassis was the first town we drove to after picking up our car in Marseille last spring. We had a nice dinner there and when we had finished the lady gave us a drink of which the name escapes me. It was something you have mentioned in a previous blog. We also stayed in Uzes for several days and had a wonderful time at L’Albiousse.

I nearly forgot the nearby Roman road, more than 2000 years old. Walking along it evoked memories of 10th-grade Latin, when we unwilling 15-year-olds were dragged through Caesar’s “Gallic Wars.” I finally was able to envision Caesar and his troops marching down (up?) that “iter” en route to subjugating more of Gaul’s indigenous populations.
“Gallia est omnis divisa in partes tres, quarum unam incolunt Belgae, aliam Aquitani, tertiam qui ipsorum lingua Celtae, nostra Galli appellantur.”

Pastis, maybe? Was it anise-flavored? Yann took Farmboy Husband out to a local watering hole so he could sample it while we were there.

I adore Cassis! I have photos fo the sea, that look surreal in color, and have to remind myself that the color is accurate!
I would love to visit again 🙂

Beautiful pictures of a beautiful town!
I absolutely love Cassis and this is where we always go when we are in Haute Provence and want to spend a day at the sea.
I am now looking forward to going there in May!

  14. My passion is privacy. I love nothing more than to have a walled off space that i share with family and a few friends, it’s a haven away from today’s world where everyone is your friend even through they don’t know you at all.

  15. I’m thankful we have you to show us daily, through your photographs, the beauty of southern France.

I’m thrilled to say my passion is my business which I am incredibly lucky to have. I set it up a few years ago because I fell in love with the part of France in which I was living at the time, Provence. That was when I came across Cassis. I ADORE the place. My first visit was during the month of August, not to be recommended necessarily but even the hoards of tourists at the height of summer couldn’t put me off this pearl of a place. I visit every time I’m back in France. The views of the cliff, the changing light, the turquoise waters off the Plage du Bestouan, the bobbing boats, the walks, the café’s, the market, I could go on and on…it’s heaven on a stick.

  18. Was just there, absolutely beautiful. A wonderful way to start our trip through Provence .

Details, details, details. Details of stories, food, objects and photographs which carry me to that artist’s world.

  20. I absolutely loved Cassis when you took me there! Dreaming about returning to Provence one day.
    with love from HK,
