Holding On…Prayers Needed

Holding On

One never knows the path that another is truly on.

The other day a dear friend of ours tried to commit suicide.

We are sad.

The journey back to wellness will be a long one let alone a difficult one.

Family, and friends love are ever near.

We knew the path that our friend was on was off balanced…

Our friend knew love, had friends, sought doctor care… though the inner battle was a monster that nobody or medicine could tamed.

Without saying more, I simply ask you to pray with us for our friend. If you don't believe in prayer can you send a caressing thought this way?

Thank you for sharing friendship with a stranger.

  1. Of course, of course…lighting a candle, saying a prayer. Suicide is crushing to deal with, for the person in such pain, and everyone around them. Take special care.

Corey, My prayers are with your friend. For so long, I was ignorant of how depression sucks the life from people until someone I love suffered from it. Her biggest fear now is ever feeling like that again. And it doesn’t matter how many people love us when depression attacks from within. Just keep loving your friend and hope for his/her recovery from the depression.

  13. May our prayers reach deep inside your friend’s heart to bring them feelings of peace, hope, joy, and love again.

  14. my prayers are with your friend.

  16. Thoughts & prayers…..

  17. This prayer is from my prayer book for the mentally dsitressed:
Mighty God, in Jesus Christ you dealt with spirits that darken minds or set people against themselves.
Give peace to those who are torn by conflict,
    are cast down,
    or dream deceiving dreams.
    By your power,
    drive from our minds
demons that shake confidence and wreck love.
    Tame unruly forces in us,
and bring us to your truth,
so that we may accept ourselves
as good, glad children of your love,
    known in Jesus Christ. Amen.

  18. Sending caressing thoughts of healing and love and hope.

bless you for sharing what is another part of life…the angst and pain and depth of despair one reaches at times. sending hugs and prayers. so grateful that she has a friend as you.
of course, suicide is an attempt to thwart the pain…and the antidote is time to think about this permanent action…and know that life is good and one can take a second look at life and reframe our past and cast it in a positive light.

I am so sorry. My heartfelt wishes for your friend, for families and friends.

  21. Corey, my prayers are for your friend and also for you and his other friends. Anguish and helplessness most likely prevail. Prayers for healing and strength.. hugs.. xo marlis

  23. Oh no. As someone who has suffered from clinical depression, my heart goes out to this person. Nobody really understands how hard it is to live with that inner torment. If someone has a very painful physical condition, everyone can grasp that. But depression is invisible to others and it’s hellish to live with for the sufferer.

  24. They shall be in my prayers, along with you and the rest of your family.

  25. Theresa

Prayers and well wishes sent your way for your friend and all that are close.

  27. Love is greater than fear. Your friend is loved. May that love lift and comfort his soul.

  28. Oh, Corey, I’m so sorry to read of your friend’s despair and have joined you in lifting up all those involved for God’s peace, healing and guidance.

  29. martina

Will send prayers right now and throughout the rest of the day.

  30. Kathie B

Oh my dear, what pain your friend must be in. We can only rejoice that the attempt failed, so your friend has another chance to escape a sadness of such massive depth and despair. We hope this time the medical care will be equal to the challenge of restoring your friend’s health, because depression is such a devastating illness for not only the patient but also loved ones.

  31. Ed in Willows

Suicide survivors are not just the person who fails the attempt but they are also the friends and family of that person. It is the responsibility of the survivors to educate themselves on the warning signs if they are to help this person recover. Depression and guilt can actually manifest it’s self like a real monster in the mind of a person. Suicide can become their only logical means of escape. People have to be brave enough to take action when they feel something is wrong. I hope your friend comes through this.

I have struggled with depression for years. There have been times when the ‘Black Hole’ would try to swallow me up. I grieve for your friend, and will join everyone else in prayer for God’s Spirit to comfort and touch this person with love and healing.
God does miracles every day, and may Love and Light come upon you all and restore this soul.

  35. How beautifully this expresses a prayer for emotional healing.
Would you share the name of the specific prayer book?

  36. Depression is so painful and such a real illness. I will pray peace, comfort, and blessings for your friend and understanding and wisdom for the family and friends. Our God really is a very special help in times of trouble.

  37. Oh Corey. So difficult for everyone. I wish I could just hug everything better, but I know there needs to be more, so much more. You and your friend, and those who work with him have our sincere and continued prayers.
I truly do know that God loves each of us so deeply. He knows our struggles, our thoughts, our hearts, and why we do the things we do. God, above all, is compassionate and merciful and will love your friend through all of this and beyond, and forever. No one is ever lost; especially those who struggle with mental or emotional illness. My friend Judy was a tortured soul, she struggled and lost. But I truly believe she is with the Lord, her mind clear and her emotions healthy– and now, eternally happy.

  88. It’s interesting; last night I couldn’t sleep (that’s not unusual) and so I prayed – for today’s Pentecost service where our highest minister (Chief Apostle) celebrated a happy, joyful and meaningful service in Cologne and which was transmitted in picture and sound to 100 countries, I prayed for a two year old child of a friend’s sister who was brought to the children’s hospital in Paris and who is between life and death, I prayed for two new-born children who arrived too early and one of whom was being operated on her head…. then I had time to think of some of my friends, one who’se husband died only a few weeks ago, another one who went fishing in March, two weeks after his retirement and who drowned in the sea, I prayed for the minister of my mother who is seriously ill and then my mind hopped to you, I didn’t know why…. And now, I know 🙂 Prayers to YOUR beloved friends went and will be sent to them; may they find peace and quiet sometimes, maybe later – and may the poor friend’s soul find peace too. Our God and Father is kind, generous, forgiving and giving; He will receive your friend onto him.
