The French Bakery

The French bakery around the corner from our house is like most French bakeries in France: Opens early, closes at lunch, reopens right before school is let out and then closes around seven thirty.

French bakeries serve the staples: Croissants, pain au chocolate, baguettes, slices of pizza, petit fours, and quiche. Though not all French bakeries are alike when it comes to taste.

In our village we have five bakeries. The one by our house we call the "Good Bakery".

Yesterday, French Husband and I walked over to the Good Bakery to buy a baguette for dinner. In the bakery window we saw the most delicious little treat… the baker's son fast asleep.

    Cute cute!

  3. Getting up before dawn every day would do it :-).
Sleeping children is one of the most heart melting sights in the world.

Like a baguette, little boys try to be crusty while tender inside!

    Adorable. Poor little exhausted guy.

  6. Ahhh, to be able to sleep with such abandon. Maybe I need to get one of those pink pacifiers.

Precious! If I had “the good bakery” with croissant and pain au chocolat so available…well…
    …that would be heaven! 🙂

I can smell your bakery from here….lol! Wishing is good for the soul.
Now about the sleeping boy…sweet, but really a bit old for a pacifier!!!

  10. thrilling………. I took a picture of the sleeping child of the choir master of a small choir we visited last Saturday for a ‘twin choral programme’ – with some 40-45 singers around doing their stuff, this babe of 18 months was happily sleeping on a matress on the floor, undisturbed, content and utterly beautiful. Just like your ‘good bakery’s owner’s son…. 🙂
    Thank You

  11. Reminds me of that scene from Chocolat when the mayor is sleeping in the chocolatier window…although your window dressing is a whole bunch cuter (-:
Five bakeries in your village? Yumola.

Oh I hope you give the baker a copy of the photos for his/her family! Steel bars on a bakery window did surprise me.

I would love to visit the “good bakery”. How sweet to see the addition in the window.

what a precious little one…you captured a special sight: a boy asleep near a grilled window inside a bakery…and yes, just beyond that, the mother, busy prepping for the day.
how lovely to have 5 bakeries in town and get your bread fresh just by walking around the corner… do you have a fresh bakery in willows? how many?

  18. cute 🙂
    what a nice neighbourhood!

  19. So sweet…..they are all “angels” when they are sleeping!!!!

  20. What a charming little place to go, love bakeries.
    That child is too sweet.

    So precious~ I would gobble him up~

  23. Not really old for a pacifier….unfortunately in this country we get uptight about those things…in the western European country I come from we have a saying, they will stop when they are ready…never seen a child go to school with one.

  24. What an adorable set of pictures! He looks just like my nephew. Lucky boy to have all those wonderful aromas while he drifts off to sleep.

  25. Beautiful little boy. That blonde hair, those cherub cheeks. Such a sweet picture and not to worry about the pacifier. He will not take it on his first date! 🙂
