Spell Bound

Spellbound  [spel-bound] adjective: a feeling of being enchanted, entranced, fascinated…

Last March when I was back home in California, I went to my Cousin Denise's darling shop with my nieces to make Easter Baskets. While my nieces cut ribbons, glued, glittered and created sugar sweet Easter baskets, my cousin Denise talked about what she had being doing… one of her passions is creating art, and going to different Mix Media Art Conferences, taking classes with other bloggers from around the USA.

Denise told me that the next class/conference she was going to go to was in Southern California called SpellBound. And as she was telling me about it, she stopped mid sentence and exclaimed, "You should be a guest speaker! I am going to send them an email right now and tell them that you should be a guest speaker."

I didn't think too much about it. Until Shea and Debbie sent me an email a few days later.

Then the reality hit: Me speaking in front of a group of women artists.

Oh.My.God.

Fear struck.

Until I met them today on their way back to California from a artist's workshop they gave with Kaari Meng (French General) in Toulouse.

Shea and Debbie were so easy going and fun that I forget the time, nearly forgot to blog, and worse, after lunch when we came back to my home … I forgot to offer them anything to eat or drink. They left it was nine in the evening!

We kinda got lost in talking.

When they asked if I would like to be a speaker at their conference, we laughed.

November 8 through the 11th…. California here I come…. Spell Bound!

Who wouldn’t want you to be the speaker?
If I was a conference holding type person, I sure would.
I’m not an artist and I want to go!

  6. Oh, my! I won?!! How very exciting!!!
Corey, your email link tries to take me straight to Microsoft mail, which I don’t have set up, because I don’t use it. Could you possibly send a blank email to me at sueinjapan@yahoo.com, so that I can email my address to you from my yahoo account? So sorry for the trouble! Thank you so much!!

Congrats to the lucky winners! I knew I should have read blogs yesterday morning instead of weeding the flower beds (alone!). I wish I could get to Pasadena to hear you speak and to play. It looks like a wonderful group of like minded people. Back to the weeds, why do they grow healthier than the flowers?

  8. Sigh! I didn’t read your blog yesterday. Awesome you will be a speaker at an artist conf. You’ll be great and best part you’ll get to spend time with your mom and brothers. Sounds like a great summer so far! BTW how’s the Paris apt coming along?

How exciting! I think it is high time for me to get to Cali again!!
These photos are so lovely. I need one of those dress forms badly – it would be exactly what I need when working on wedding clothing!

Well Corey, it looks like we’re finally going to meet.
This is only about 10 miles from where I live.
And the amazing Huntington Museum and Library is a stone’s throw from the event hotel. It has a cactus garden that has to be seeen to be believed.

Bravo ! And no reason to hesitate ! You already create art (I’m thinking about the precious litlle frames you made with seaweeds, textiles, rhinestoned mini-brooches,etc…).

Spellbound is a wonderful multi-day event (though a bit pricey in these days of economic stress) for those who like to create mixed media art and jewelry, but not a venue for the antique collector. I’m curious what your topic will be at this event. The Rose Bowl is a great venue for the collector; was mentioned as one of the top 25 flea markets in the annual Flea Market issue of Romantic Homes (August issue) that is just now hitting the shelves in the USA.
