What to Wear to the Brocante

What to Wear to the Brocante

What to wear to the brocante when it is raining:

Boots,

Jeans,

Rain coat (with a hood),

Waterproof purse,

Waterproof bag or cart,

Must have umbrella… and that was the one critical thing that I did not have.

But I was not alone.

Some had umbrellas, most did not.

Some had on shorts.

Some slipped and fell.

Muddy mess.

Few vendors, few buyers… and a ton of food, since the organizers of the brocante fair prepare lunch for the expected turnout… Besides tarts, fries, sandwiches, salads, the organizers also prepare a sit down full course lunch… 350 meals this year, yet only twenty or so had lunch.

What to Wear to the Brocante

The tranquil cow pasture.

The cows didn't seem to mind the rain, or mud, or the frowns of disappointed brocanteurs.

"Green Booger Bag," is what French Husband called my make-shift hat.

I called it, "Handy".

Real Brocanteurs never give up… a little rain never dampens the spirit. Though a down pour is a challenge. True die hard maddness!

What to Wear to the Brocante

My friend had a great cart,

but no jeans, and flip flops.

"Ding Dong!" is what French Husband called her.

Yet she scored the best deals of the day, lucky dog!

I scored some… and will be posting to my online shop this week.

Now, Rain Go Away!!

  1. Actually I like the flip flops if it wasn’t too cold. Might as well get your waterproof feet wet. Look forward to hearing about the scores.

  2. I have traveled to England for big flea markets only to have it pour pour pour on the day. I have been soaked to the skin and sat in a car stripped down while ringing my socks out, out of the window… All in the name of the ” big score”. Still what compares? Very little I say

  3. I was at a flea market once where it rained so hard that while walking the mud sucked one of my boots right off. I pulled it out and stuck my now filthy dirty sock right back in it and carried on with the rest of the day.
I had to strip down once I got to my car to leave because it was my husbands new Volvo and he would of killed me if I got in covered in mud. Wonder if he would of felt the same way as I took my boots, socks and pants off in front of everybody in the parking lot.
Ahhhhh, brocanting memories, thank god I had on clean underwear !

  4. I love the red brick half-timbered building with the dark tile roof. I can tell you’re in a different part of France.

Umbrellas tie up hands when the digging gets going. You wore your usual good humour, which is the best outfit!

  6. So, you got chocolate souffle and brocante goodies!! Lucky, lucky girl – even if you did get drenched.

  7. I would say you look like a brocante elf in that green hat :-).
As for the rain, Grzegorz (my partner) says that there are two schools as far as dressing for it goes: you either dress up (raincoat, rain boots, umbrella) or dress down: flip flops, easy drying T-shirt and shorts – once the sun comes out you are going to dry up. Of course that goes only for a warm summer rain that won’t freeze you to death.

  8. I need a third hand for the umbrella + can’t wait to see all your goodies. xxpeggybraswelldesign.com
