One More Time… The Stuff of Dreams

French Lavender Fields

French lavender fields before the harvest.

Rows and rows, nearly as far as the eye can see.

Why is the season so short?

July, Valensole.

A house in the middle of lavender

A house in the middle of a lavender field, can you imagine the perfumed air?

Lavender is said to have a calming effect, aids sleeping… I wonder if I lived in a lavender field such as this, would I become zen? Already I fall asleep without much effort, if I lived by a lavender field I might never wake up.

Lavender rows under a blue sky

Those clouds! The best prop to a photo, is having nature lend a hand.

Lavender cushion

A woman I know in Isle sur la Sorgue, Francine makes the most lovely lavender sachets/cushions out of 18th century French fabric. The sachet/cushions are stuffed hard with lavender. The sachet/cushion above I have had for over ten years, it still smells of sweet lavender.

Lavender and olive

Picnic under an olive tree:

Must have:

A blanket, a pillow, the flitered sunlight, the scent of lavender, and olive branches swaying overhead.

Dreams grow in such conditions.

  1. If these photos were paintings (and the first one, especially, is so painterly), you’d swear some artistic licence had been taken with the sheer density of colour of that lavender! Just stunning. At this time of year (and sitting in grey, rainy London) your photo essays are a beautiful dream :)))

  2. A simple flower yet so much beauty.
Maybe the castle of Sleeping Beauty was situated amongst lavender fields?

Beautiful photos Corey..oh to be a tiny bee or a bird or something (duh, I guess that would be ME!) to just inhale and gaze upon such beauty..
    Thank you for sharing Corey!

  4. Gorgeous landscapes!
Regarding sitting under an olive tree in the middle of lavender fields, I can’t help but thinking that there must be zillions of bees out there, adding their music to the feast.

  5. Perfection!

  6. It almost doesn’t seem real. Like if I saw people peddling bicycles to have a picnic in this scence, I would think it was fake. I wish I had smell a screen!

  7. wonderful! it leaves you speechless!

    BEAUTIFUL !!!
(If you lived by a lavender field, you would become the modern Sleeping Beauty !)

  9. I’d love to sleep my way through summer at this place!
When I visited my uncle in Melbourne, Australia, he took me to a lavender farm. It was heavenly. We drank lavender tea, ate lavender scones with lavender butter and lavender jam, sat back and listened to the incredible buzz of the bees working away in the fields.
Provence lavender fields are next on my list!

  10. Well. Again – I’m green with envy. Like Karen above, I am in England, looking out of my window at the grey sky and my dog is sitting on my lap drying her feet because we just took a walk in the rain. I haven’t seen the danged sun in what seems like weeks. It’s actually really nice looking at your beautiful photos of summer. It reminds me that the sun is still up there!

  11. Scented soap and lotion is the nearest thing to a lavender field here in fog shrouded San Francisco.
    Closing my eyes and dreaming..

  12. So dreamy…I can just imagine being there when I look at your amazing photos.

  13. wow. My lavender looks nothing like yours. The scent must be amazing.
Oddly, as a little girl, lavender smelled like an “old lady” to me. Guess I’ve become an old lady 🙂 🙂

  14. That pillow would make a nice napping cushion, lavender scenting your dreams.

  15. I could certainly take a nap there. Sweet dreams, dear friend!

  16. Oh if only the smell came with the wonderful photos. Thanks for sharing!

Oh, I can’t even imagine how heavenly the air must be in those fields. Lavender is my favorite scent. I grow it around my roses, then dry it and make sachets for my dresser drawers. I open the drawers in winter and am transported to summer by that lovely scent. Corey, would you happen to know of a French perfume that captures the true scent of lavender? I have searched for a perfume to wear for years and everything I have found doesn’t even come close.

  18. Beautiful, and the sachet is gorgeous. The one I brought home looks puny next to that! I bought a French lavander plant for my herb garden when I got home, it has one blossom on it, but it is much larger than the English lavander.

  19. How beautiful your pictures are + the smell of lavender! can’t be much better. Have a wonderful Thursday. xxpeggybraswelldesign.com

  20. Fab photos.
I keep right here near my computer a bag of lavendar sent to me after a friend visited Provence. The smell is divine.

  21. You torture us so! I have lavender fields …but they do not have the fragrance that they have in provence…i don’t think…in good old ca

  22. Thank you for these photos and the ones in the previous post. When I’m longing for Provence (which is everyday), I visit Tongue in Cheek!

Beautiful pictures Corey. Two of my favorite things. Olive trees and lavender.
Kim in rainly grey England. I would love to be there where I grew up sitting after taking a walk in the rain. It is hot, hot, hot here in Northern California.
I guess we grow where we are planted.
