This is One of my Favorite Post… Can You Tell me What is One of Your Favorite Posts of Mine?

                     IMG_7624

The wet seaweed full of sand. I gathered it up, admiring the texture and subtle colors, remembering as a child how I could hardly stand to look at it, let alone touch it. With seaweed in hand I walked back to my brother's campsite, Molly (my five year old niece) ran up to me. When she saw the seaweed she asked what I was going to do with it.

"I am going to make a seaweed crown… do you want to wear it?"  I was certain she would shake her head no, then run and hide. Instead she said, "Like a little mermaid?"

How original, how imaginative! "Why yes like a little mermaid! Can I take a picture of you when you have it on?"

I pointed to a nearby fence and started to walk towards it. Though once Molly realized that I was planning to take her picture by the fence, she tugged at my hand and exclaimed, "Aunt Coco mermaids don't sit by wooden fences! They sit at the edge of the sea. They need water you know!"

                    IMG_7636

Oh I love this child! She sure knows how to grab my heart. I reminded her that the sea was a good walk away… she nodded and we headed in its direction. Once there she found a pile of seaweed and sat on it. Then told me to sit down in front of her. I looked out at the grey sea then at Molly. She didn't smile instead gave me her impression of a mermaid washed ashore and what it was like to feel the sandy earth beneath her.

I asked her if she was sad. "No mermaids aren't sad, they love the sea and dancing in the waves…. sometimes they come to shore and make a seaweed crown… but they have to return to the sea you know."

                IMG_7626

                IMG_7670

With that said, she stood up and ran towards the sea. I can still hear her laughing when I close my eyes.

  1. She is such a beautiful child, I’ve always admired her large dark eyes.
My favorite post is the one where Chelsea is looking into FH’s pocket.

  2. Marilyn

Oh I do remember this post. Just a beautiful mermaid and you can just tell she had become just that for a few moments. Lucky you to have such a beautiful mermaid in your life.

  3. Valerie in Oregon

One of my favorites was Sasha having his fortune told by his niece…but really, there are so many! 🙂

  4. My favorite post(s) were your motorcycle trip with FH through the mountains and sightseeing the cities.
Thanks for all of your effort to make your blog so wonderful.

  5. Nancy W

I have 2. #1 was of an old deserted house that, I think, your Godmother bought the contents from and you showed a picture of some old quilts piled on a chest of drawers, (Whatever happened to that?) #2 was the home of a lady you often saw buying lovely things at the brocante and you asked to photograph her home & she said said. You showed pictures of a very colorful home with a Moorish style..lots of beautiful tiles!

  6. Love all your posts, especially travels, parties and Mr. Espresso!

  7. martina

C’est impossible! Every one I read either makes me laugh, cry, learn something or smile at the beauty.

  8. So many many posts are my favorite.
The rice harvest post in Willows with your brother. I have since stayed in Willows at the Blue Gum Motel and taken a ride with my 10 year old son behind the motel on a dirt road alongside what I think had been a field of rice. I will have to visit another season and see what’s up with the rice fields.
Thank you for the joy and beauty you share with us daily, I feel so lucky to have found your blog!

  9. Beatnheart

Corey… Yours was my first blog that I started to read on a daily basis. I think I went all the way to the first post and read each and every one. I love the ” How I met my french husband series. Anything about Annie… The posts about going home to Willows. Ones about your children… But I would have to be honest here and say the one the day after I entered one of your guessing game contests and read my name as the winner. I felt great! Not only for winning but for knowing that you liked one of my little stories.
You are the best Corey… I love you.

Easy. When you filmed the motorcycle ride over the Stelvio Pass. That was amazing!
But, also notable were: Carnival in Venice, the many treks to brocante fairs, the restaurant in Cassis that you like, the trip to Mexico.

  12. Oh Puleeeease! How in the world can we possibly do that????? You know that the little mermaid is one of my favorite pix of all time, but favorite post? Oy, I can’t do that. I could maybe do favorite theme(s)…Annie, FH (especially with pix:), anything about your dad, or your mom…or your kids…or when you take us on an adventure-traveling to China, and Thailand, and of course antiques, ANYTHING BROCANTE…
Nope! Can’t do it. Sorry honey:)

  13. Oh so lovely

  14. Jillayne

One of my most favourite quilters ever lived near Seattle and she made a quilt called “The Kelp Queen”. In her second book she wrote about this quilt and showed photographs of her children adorned with the kelp, and wrote about the evolution of the design. It has always been my favourite quilting “story” and when I saw your photographs it came to mind immediately – beautiful!

  15. Impossible, there are so many favorites!!! I loved the series about Yann’s family and when you first met them and his sister and how you loved the linens in the armoire. Anything with your family, all of the posts about how to blend in while in France, all posts of Annie, your travel posts, the beautiful lavender fields and I could go on and on. Corey, yours is the only blog I read daily and I am so thankful for you!!! xo!

  16. Valerie in Oregon

And the one where the woman stopped you in the grocery store and commented about your weight… you told her FH liked it when you drank wine… You are amazing, Corey! <3

  21. Ana María

How can I choose? Every day you bring us a new adventure or new insights into life, family, friendship, love! For me too, yours was the first blog I read. I fell in love with your life, your family and your home. (Remember I emailed you once to tell you I had dreamt that my kids, grandbaby and I had appeared at your doorstep? You were so kind, you told us to grab a chair and sit down for dinner!). It wasn’t until later, reading older posts that I learned that like me, you were a cancer survivor. That sealed the deal! I decided you were my new BFF!
Thank you for your daily posts. You bring music into my life and you elevate my soul with your daily writings. God bless you!

  22. I really like the post where you are propped up in bed and a friend’s child is with you and you are having a conversation in French with him. Also the one where you are in a wine store or grocery store and you video a conversation with the seller. Seeing your life in video really makes me smile.

  23. I loved the mermaid post and picture back then and still do–very memorable, all of the Annie posts too! And there was a picture of your Mom that was beautiful with flags I think it was…your writings and pictures are beautiful, inspirational, a joy!

  24. Tongue in Cheek

Thank you Judy, The post about the flags was Memorial day after my dad died, my family and I put our dad’s flag with the other veterans who served during WWII.

I cannot find the post, but I know the photo well.
Chelsea is about 17 months old and sitting on Yann’s lap.
The photo was the first one I took where I knew I wanted a “real” camera of my own.
    Thank you,
    C

  42. Karen C

You haven’t posted it yet! It’s the one about how Chelsea gave Sacha his name.
Now get on with it, Corey.

  43. Linda R

Every story touches the heart – of course the little mermaid. – story and photos – is a favorite.

  44. I first found your site through the photo of the burly worker holding a delicate teacup. I’m not sure what post that was, but I still remember the photo. Since then, I’ve enjoyed your posts daily!

  45. TEXAS FRANCOPHILE

Wow tall order to name just one fav. You have a thousand fabulous qualities that you share with us each day. Each morning I grab my cup of coffee, my devotional book, and my tablet to read your blog. Your life seems so complete.. Thank you for sharing it with us.

  46. Laura @ 52 FLEA

Your mermaid post and those beautiful images was the first of many lovely posts that popped into my mind…even before I saw that it was your fav….
    I enjoy them all…
    🙂

  47. Jenny K

I love the story you told about the lady at the flea market flirting with your husband at the brocante. How she said something about you being his mother. I wanted to reach in there and slap her! I love how your husband responded by telling you that the woman was a blind bat and rude and kissed you right in front of her. But my favorite part was what you said: “One thing is certain when a woman of my stature marries a handsome man, one that others find more attractive than she is, well than the woman needs to be one very strong character. I’ll go with that. Strong character.” You gave me words for how I often feel. I love your way…You are a truly beautiful person inside AND OUT!
My other favorite post was when you chose my letter in your post about letters. It was a truly delightful surprise to wake up to that morning. 🙂
And all of the posts about Annie.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful life with all of us.

  48. Hi C – took the children to the beach for a few day so I am catching up. Like so many others who have replied, your blog was the first that I began reading and was compelled to read every day. Love each post, not sure I could pick a fav. Some days I read by myself, other days are a family affair (like your motorcycle trip). I love your mothering stories, friendship posts, times with Annie, and your travels. Also, your prayers.
Hoping one day you get to the east coast or I get to France.
    xoxo

    Thank you Jenny.
For those you of you missed Jenny K.’s letter
Jenny K. wrote about a letter she wrote to a boy her in third grade class who had gone through a very difficult surgery.
” Our teacher asked us to write a letter to him if we wanted to. I was the only one who wrote a letter. I stayed in during recess to finish it. At the end of the school year, my teacher read a copy of my letter for the parents program. I was shocked and embarrassed. I had no idea that my 2 page letter was anything special. I just wanted that boy to know that I was praying for him and that I wanted him to be able to play again like me. My teacher teared up at the end of the letter. It made me feel special that my teacher thought my letter was sweet.”
    Sweet indeed.

    Hi Lily
The burly man, was Regis our friend when he helped build our stone fountain.
I love that everyday when he would come to our home to work, I would offer him coffee in that tiny pink espresso cup. To this day that cup reminds me of him.
I am glad you like it too… Thanks for reading my blog since 2007!

    I know, I know, I know!! lol!

  58. oh Corey, it is not possible to pick only one and I had not discovered you as soon as others. Always does my heart good to read about Annie. I’m telling you Corey, lately I also love your Pinterest posts. Gosh, that site is addicting too.
Bless you for all you do for us out in blogland. You make the world a smaller more intimate place with your pictures and prose that comes from from deep in your heart.
    Tracy from Houston.

  59. I stomped my foot on that one!!

  60. I also love it when you allow us to see your face. You are lovely and have such a sense of style. Also I remember once when you spoke about items in a box, your voice was so soft and kind. It’s always fun to see who this amazing woman is behind these stories.
Well, thats all I wanted to add.
    Tracy from Houston

  61. This my favorite too! I have a copy posted on my bulletin board in my office. I love her look of innocence, it’s beautiful! Thank you for sharing it with us.

  62. Marie-Noëlle

    Dear Corey,
Alike many of your readers, I find it rather difficult (impossible!?!) to choose…
    – I like those stories about your family… such as the one when one of your nieces asked you to bring “a seashell and Jesus” …
    – I like the stories you make up about an object, or about a mere detail out of those. (Love triangle, True desire, Song og Silence, A Tale of Romance, The Ribbon, …)
    – I like those special posts about Annie, your mum, your mother-in-law…
    – I like the posts about what you feel, pick, understand… from the French.
    – I like the posts from abroad (China, Thailand, …)
    – I like the posts about your linguistic discoveries of French or those of FH’s of English…
    – …
    – …
To sum it up : A lot of posts / Most posts / All posts … !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  63. Yes, the photo of the Little Mermaid is one of my favourite too.
I also love your posts from China. I remember there was one shot of a bridge with a girl holding a parasol – gorgeous. Other post that I remember is of Sacha and his friends jumping on their bikes somewhere in the forest.
I’ve singled these out, but I really like all your photos and posts.

  64. SWEET! I am not going to try and pick a favorite post. Not possible . . .
Merci for every single one of them!!

  65. Barbara Snow

I also have 2: 1) When French Husband proposed to you and helped the drug addict; 2) the series you posted during the time you were home for the end of your father’s life. Those posts were so powerful and filled with love. Please keep writing. You have a wonderful talent.
    Barb in Minnesota

  66. I have come to your blog later than some of the others. I find myself going back and reading posts that I missed. I love your posts about everyday life in france…how to shop in the market, pictures of the beautiful lavender fields, etc. I too follow you on pinterest and I love your sense of style as well!

  67. Amylia Grace

I love the blog posts from China!

  68. beautiful, beautiful pictures!! your niece is gorgeous 🙂
