Eat Less Move More, and Love Without Boundaries

Eat Less Move More

Sacha came home last night, after being in California for three months. I made a "Happy We are ALL home Dinner".

I dined without regard. Drank wine, ate cake… you might say I dove into the moment.

It felt wonderful to be together, at one point I thought about locking the door and bolting the windows, so we would be stuck together forever.

But I let that childish thought slip away, and put my heart into the moment.

Eat Less Move More

I should have taken photos of us four, set up the tripod and timer. But I didn't want to change the atmosphere.

My last thought before falling asleep was, sweet dreams assured.

All four of us at home. Family is wealth.

Eat Less Move More

I lost zero pounds this week.

But my sandals fit better.

Isn't that how it is… one loses weight in area least expected or hope for.

It is as if the calories burning off say, "Forego the butt, let's burn out around the ankles."

Whatever.

Eat Less Move More

How did I have such tall children?

I like to think it is because I breastfed them as babies, and fed them a vegetarian diet (no fish, though eggs and cheese.)

Chelsea weighed ten pounds at birth.

Sacha was over two weeks early and he weighed 8.5 pounds.

Chunkers. In general French women have smaller babies. So Chelsea and Sacha looked like three month olds by comparison.

When I was pregnant the Doctor often told me that I was fat, and should be more careful. He said 12 pounds was the target gain for pregnant women.

"Oh la la," I said, "I gained 12 pounds the first morning after I conceived." The Doctor didn't laugh. So un-fun.

Eat Less Move More

Yann drove Chelsea to Paris this morning.

Less than twenty four hours altogether.

Can I say "Bummer!"

At least Paris is not across the ocean!

….

  1. You don’t want to lose weight in your butt! It’s the new round place. Lose weight other places. I ran six miles this morning. I’ve worked my way up to that since you convinced me to go with the move more eat less plan. I can’t actually eat less when I’m running this much, but I try to eat more fruits and veggies. When I’m running, I picture my thighs and breasts melting to more manageable sizes. Not my butt though!
Love your photos of Sacha. It’s your American genes that make your children tall. No Napoleon complexes for them. My boys are both over 6 feet, my daughter 5’10. I’m a little over 5-foot 3.

  2. That’s my girl! Enjoy life and don’t give up on the weight loss. The ankles look fabulous!

  3. Oh, C, I have gained 2 lbs the last week myself. Stress, I guess – the kids each entering new schools (college, high, & middle).
Must be great knowing Chelsea will be in Paris. My daughter will be home this weekend, can’t wait.
I wish I had more get and go to lose weight . . .I keep thinking about your words, Eat less, move more!

I walked almost every day this week — a good change from maybe walking once a week, and often talking myself out of that once! Darling Husband and I are going away this weekend for a little outing looking at water. A small thing, but we decided to skip taking Triscuits (my all-time favorite cracker snack) and to be more mindful about what we’re eating. Although we are taking wine cause it IS a holiday, after all.
The part I’m looking forward to losing weight in? Those puffy little pillows of fat to right and left, just below my belly and above my thighs. Oh, it was a disappointing day (month/year) when those started puffing out. What a happy day when they start receding. Thanks for the encouragement, you all!

I gained 4 lbs over my Wisconsin visit of fried foods, cheeseburgers, french fries, custard and my brothers home cooking…oh well. Now its back to the gym, yoga and not eating as much…people in Wisconsin kept calling me skinny…ha ha…well alright then…maybe I should move back there where I am skinny …
you look beautiful Corey where your smile and happiness is more lovely and desireable than any emaciated woman could ever be.

  6. Well after gaining 2.7 lbs two weeks ago, I lost 2.5 lbs these past two weeks. It has not been easy. And it does not help that my dear husband can eat (I kid you not) a half a carton of ice cream at 9 p.m. and not gain an ounce. He keeps apologizing as he munches away. But I’ve been diligent. Today I hopped out of bed to exercise because I knew that I would get to eat more if I exercised!

I’m happy for you that Chelsea will be living closer to you. Our children are our reward for going through labor. My husband is 6’1″ and I’m 5’9″. My daughter is 5’11” and my son is 6’3″. We live in the land of giants.
I’m sticking to my new eating habits and am not having too much trouble enjoying the meals. I thought I would miss meat a lot more than I do. My weight loss this week—1 lb. hey it’s something.
    Love your sandals.

  8. Oh, so can relate to the joy of finally having all the kids together!
Laughed out loud at the “sandals fit better” comment. I can so relate to that as well. Of all the ridiculous places to be thin, it’s my heels – so shoes often flip / flop when they are not the flip-flop variety. I have to buy those foam pads to make shoes fit. I’d trade my skinny heels for skinny something else- anything else!!

  9. well first let me say….LOVE LOVE LOVE those sandals…the pic of you and sacha in the mirror is stunning-you look so glamourous-your hair devine…i am happy that you had one full meal together-at least there will be many reasons to go visit paris-namely- chelsea!! well i have to say i really wasn’t fully engaged in the move more or mindful eating-my summer cold got the best of me in the beginning of the week and I WAS SO VERY TIRED and then the later part of the week was running around doing everything i did not do because of the cold-all i can say is i am glad for this three day weekend and will regroup and redirect-i made the tomato and stale baguette receipe DELISH thank you for sharing (no cheese though)-so to all the friday filles— tomorrow is a new month a new day let’s make the most of it!! my personal goal is moving more- to incorporate a walk(FAST-PACED) after dinner and no more snacking after 7pm even if it is grapes–GOOD LUCK ALL and until next friday-eat well move more-be in the moment!

  10. just a small note -love everyone’s comments KEEP UP THE REALLY HARD BUT WONDERFUL WORK…everyone is doing so well-remember small changes can bring big result in the long run….SO SO HAPPY ALL!!!

  11. Corey- You look fabulous, your hair is gorgeous and the sandals (and ankles) are pretty darn cute too. Glad you were able to have such an enjoyable time with your family.
I have lost a total of 4 lbs. I did manage to get on the treadmill ONCE this week! So my goal is to make the treadmill my friend.

  26. I am not weighing myself, I am using my clothes as my guide and they are beginning to feel a little looser. But i too have my bad days, ice cream is my weakness and I succumb using summer as the excuse and i will forego dinner just to have my treat. My dietician told me off as I should be following a FODMAP diet for IBS and now I am strictly having to eat 3 meals a day with protein and starch at every meal, she assures me that i will not only be healthy but also lose weight. so we will see.
I am allowed to fall off the wagon very occasionally, so to everyone I say, keep it up, it took us all a long time to put it on it will take time to lose it. keep heart.

  27. Corey – my recommendations – don’t weigh yourself. Measure yourself. The scale lies for all sorts of reasons, and one of the biggest, which I believe pertains to you, is MUSCLE MASS. If you are moving more and doing the weights as you said recently, that will make you “weigh more”. But your body is burning more calories and you are increasing muscle mass. All very good things.
Also, be sure you are eating enough calories. Many women cut back too far in calories in hopes the weight will drop faster. It does not – it shuts the system down. So eat healthy foods and eat enough. If you move vigorously, make sure you add calories so your system does not shut down.
About losing weight in the shoes but not where it’s needed more. I AGREE! WHY???? This has happened to me too. I did the Dukan Diet and lost 35 lbs. First thing I noticed was my shoes fell off. So here I have body parts that are still tight in clothing and my shoes fall off. Drives a girl insane, particularly when you realize you will need to toss your incredible collection of perfectly good shoes because your feet are thinner. Life is NOT fair.
Your comments about your family being together reminded me of my father. Soon after marrying, my new hub and I went to visit my parents. As it happened, my husband was asleep when my Dad asked if my Mom, sister, Dad and myself could go eat out. Just the 4 of us. I asked about hubby and Dad thought he could stay home. I was shocked. Now I see what he was feeling because you are feeling it.
I told Dad we could not leave hubby behind, and we didn’t, but I sure wish I had done something to sooth his broken heart. All he wanted was his family back together – just for himself and nobody else. I wish I had understood and given him his little wish.
But as children, we do not appreciate our parents’ broken hearts. How sad, in retrospect. But I guess we all do it – it’s the way we grow into adults.

    Bonjour Corey,
I know how you feel about getting your babies back home, I feel the same when I collect my kids at the airport after they’ve spent most of their holidays with their father in Brazil : I rediscover them, how they’ve changed, how luminous they are, how happy they are to be back, full of questions , happy….
As for weight loss, since the beginning of our collective venture, I lost a kilo but these past few days I wouldn’t know, my scale’s battery is flat. Honest! Anyway, I’d love to try the POOF way your reader Texas Francophile describes, it sounds very …engaging !! But in the end I agree with Ana , we have to take into consideration how long the weight has been there and be reasonable about how fast we can loose it.
Let’s all keep up with it ! Bon courage everybody !
