Prayer…

IMG_2397

Putting my hand's palm to palm,

I opened them to form a cup.

I prayed, imagining my prayer taking form into my cupped hands.

I imagined, God's hand, loving hands, underneath my own,

When every word of mine, no longer had a name, when only silence stood between my heart and hands, when my prayer(s) sat heavy in my hands–

I opened them, letting them pour out to the hands underneath.

Letting go.

Letting be.

Trusting that the loving hands underneath my own held my prayer.

That is faith, bringing me courage, to face whatever comes my way.

  3. Beautiful.

  4. Very beautiful words. I am facing surgery tomorrow. My faith is what sustains me, “bringing me courage, to face whatever comes my way.” Thank you for your timely message. You have encouraged me more than you will know.

  5. There is power in prayer, and prayers are heard, and answered, though sometimes the answer is not the one we hoped to hear. But when you trust God you can let go and accept the answer. Nothing more to say, you said it all and quite beautifully too.

  6. this is lovely, Corrie. Thank you for the inspiration to “see”

  7. My thoughts this week have been much with the families of the four Americans murdered in Benghazi, Libya. Each was someone’s child, perhaps a sibling, perhaps a spouse or parent, and surely each also had many friends, all of whom will miss them forever. For Corey’s readers in Northern California, know that Ambassador Chris Stevens was from Piedmont, and his stepfather is longtime (but now retired) SF “Chronicle” music critic Robert Commanday.

Your words led me to try the gestures and thoughts as I remembered two whom I know who most their lives this week.

  9. One of the most beautiful things I’ve read.

  10. How are you able to so exquisitely express such inspiring words? You are a blessing, Corey.

  11. Sometimes silence is all that is needed in a prayer. So lovingly stated.

  12. this is so precious…is everything all right in your quarter of the world….prayer and conversation with THE FATHER is a vital part of each of my days-some more precise and some more mundane-

  13. You know this morning I preached a sermon from Joshua 1:9 “Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Prayer and giving things to God helps us be strong and have courage because on our own, we just aren’t very strong at all.
Thanks for the beautiful words Corey and how you minister to people all over the world with your sweet blog:)

  14. Being i cherish you as a friend, your words alarmed me, as if something (not the best, or fear of something not the best)was happening that i am not aware of.
But peace does flow when we trust in the strength of the heavenly father to carry life for and with us. Knowing your faith was placed in his hands, i feel the calmness and peace he gives, and that i believe you asked of him. Thank you for sharing your prayer, and faith.
    xoxo jody

Wow, you are so much more than a blogger about the life and times of an American living in France, you are an inspiration! Thank you.

  20. I feel all is not the way it should be for you right now
    Your prayer is beautiful
When I am at my wits end and can’t fiqure out what to do I give my problem or problems to God and let him handle it and this always seems to help
You are one of God’s special angels…..hugs xox

  22. That is so beautiful Corey…. sounds as if maybe you too are facing something very difficult in your life. I love your blog and today it spoke to me as I sit here sick in bed…taken down by another cruel treatment by a family member which has been a series of events for 30 yrs, untill it has almost destroyed me. God has always been my source of strength. I was taken to the psalms of David as he cried to the Lord for protection. May God Bless.

  23. You can never fall lower than into the hands of God.
HE holds HIS hands under yours and whatever falls from your hands, falls into his – just as you said in your prayer. It’s beautiful, it’s true
    Oodles of love, Kiki xoxoxoxoxxo

  27. I used this profound and moving poem/prayer as my devotional on Monday, and just read it to my best friend over the phone. I can so relate to your words “when only silence stood between my heart and hands, when my prayer(s) sat heavy in my hands–” Sometimes we just don’t have the words to say. Thank God for Romans 8:26.
And Corey, your photo collage is truly wonderful!
