Who Would Have Thought That I Would Write About the World Series?

The World Series.

Who would have thought that I would write about the World Series, baseball or for that matter sports on my blog?

My brother Mat picked me up at the San Francisco airport last Thursday, and since then the air in California has been buzzing with B A S E B A L L. Planes with banners were flying over the San Francisco ATT Park, the radio has been proclaiming facts and glory about San Francisco's hottest team, my brothers no stop babble about baseball with words that made no sense to me at all. I interrrupted them… "What does closure mean? What is a triple crown? What is the World Series? Why fear a beard? Who are the Tigers? Are they related to Tiger Woods?"

My brothers Mat and Marty are baseball fanatics. Both were Little League coaches since their sons were born with a bat and glove in their hands. My oldest nephew is a pitcher on his college's team, my brother Marty had a baseball field in his backyard, a real damn baseball field that he made for his sons, and that he mowed every weekend!

baseball world series

So it stands that after four days of listening and watching baseball from every angle, corner, radio, party, family moment and the TV I must write on my blog my two cent news report:

Who would have thought that the Little Giant's closer, Sergio Romo would strike out baseball's Triple Crown winner with a backwards K to seal the Giant's Glory, the World Series won in Four?

My family that is who.

Erin Andrew watch out I might get into this baseball reporting thing.

  1. I am happy for your team yet sad for the Detroit Tigers…………They gave it a good shot………
    Blessings and much love

Your nephews are good at it too!! No wonder Mat loves his house, he lives right next to the baseball field even though the boys built a pitching mound in the front yard anyway!!!

  3. Brother Mathew

WORLD CHAMPION SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS. BIG SMILE.

  4. Cousin Chris

Who’s better than our Giants?? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOBODY!

  5. I didn’t pay attention to baseball or sports in general till we moved to The City in 2010, just 2 months before we won the world series then. I live close to the ballpark so the air is even more orange here, if that’s even possible. My husband and I were at the Civic Center last night watching and it was one of the most amazing things being there celebrating and rooting for our team.

  6. LOL, enjoy every angle. What great dads.

  7. Even though I am female, I was born with a bat and mitt reserved for me. I was the only girl in a neighborhood of 20+ boys. Play ball or play alone. Fortunately, I loved it and still do. I was sitting there, embroidering between pitches and rooting for the Giants. If my lowly Mariners can’t get to the big dance, I’ll root for anyone except the Yankees. :)Congrats!

  8. “Who would have thought that the Little Giant’s closer, Sergio Romo would strike out baseball’s Triple Crown winner with a backwards K to seal the Giant’s Glory, the World Series won in Four?” – it could just as well be written in Esperanto or Klingon to me. I don’t get baseball even after 20 years of living in Canada. However, as I wrote on Laurie SF’s Facebook page, I do get the emotion and the excitement (hokey is for Canadians what baseball is for Americans).

  9. My 16-year-old son said today, “No one cares about baseball except old white men.” I argued for the middle-aged white man demographic, but he wasn’t having any of it.

  10. Brother Mathew

Tell your son to call this middle aged white man and I will talk to him. Warn him that my “talks” are long and that it takes an attention span akin to watching a game of baseball.

  11. I became such a S.F.Giants fan this fall! What a great series. What a great team! I grew up in a family that listened to baseball non-stop during the summers. My father pitched to Babe Ruth in the ’40s.

  12. Brother Mathew

Wait a minute. Now I sound like a middle aged angry white man! Maybe your son is on to something.

  13. Awesome!! I loved (and still love) having a baseball loving brother who also was a college ball pitcher and who is a fanatic. Growing up with that and still feeling that thrill makes me happy!!

  14. I guess that is what happens when you happen to come at this time of year and the Giants are winning. Wow! I am impressed that your brother made a baseball field for his boys. A real field of dreams.

  15. Love the photos. Such excitment here in No. Cal.

  16. Became a Giants fan when they moved to SF in ’58. Was listening to the June ’64 longest game vs. Mets on radio while studying for a calculus final exam, which I aced because I stayed up so late studying/listening! Became an As fan as well, after they moved to Oakland, but still like the Giants. Way to go, Orange & Black!!!

  17. Does your son not realize that there’s so much enthusiasm for baseball among Hispanic-Americans that the games are broadcast in Spanish as well as English? ¡Si, si, si!

  18. Indeed, ABTY!!!

  19. I think there are many Latinos and Latinas (not to mention women of all ages and races) out there who would be offended to be considered “old, white men”. 😉

  20. I can’t believe you relied on Mat to pick you up at the airport.
