Longest hair contest

My five youngest nieces and I have a standing contest to see whose hair is the longest each time I come home to visit.

Last March I was in third place. But since I am the oldest my hair doesn't seem to grow as fast, nor as long as theirs. I think I should have a handicap of five inches extra per six months. But they said no go.

Gina

The Longest Hair contest started over eighteen months ago when I noticed that my nieces were cutting their hair shorter and shorter. First to their shoulders and then to their chin…

I had to do something, you see long hair to means young and staying young is what I want my little nieces to be… forever young would be fine by me.

The Longest Hair contest took the scissor away and the race was on.

Maci

Maci, won again with her curly long hair.

I told her I heard a secret to keeping hair long and beautiful, when she asked me what I heard I told her, "Bubble gum, a big wad of it in your mouth when you go to bed."

She didn't fall for it.

Kate

Kate is the youngest and her hair color is what I want.

Notice she has chocolate on the tip of her nose. So cute.

Gina, Maci and Kate are sisters, they also have a brother named George.

Family

We stood by the family barn while George took a photo of us. He counted, "One, Two…" and when he said three, without planning it that way, my youngest nephew Warren ran in front of the camera. Perfect timing!

Long hair

I think I might have the longest hair contest with my nephews instead. I think I could win that way. Though George had a trick up his sleeve. Long white hair?

Marie

Marie is my brother Mat's daughter. Her hair grew the most. It was on her shoulders less than a year ago. Marie told me her secret to long hair… horse shampoo. I tell you I thought my line about the bubble gum being a good one, she had me beat with horse shampoo secret.

Molly

Molly's hair was the shortest eighteen months ago. I think playing soccer has made her hair grow, she laughed at that idea. Warren is Molly's brother.

  1. Family heritage is the very best. Oh what memories you are creating for your nieces. I can just tell how much they love it and love you too.

  2. You should get the award for the hair that flew the farthest to be there.

  3. Amy Kortuem

I love it. Beautiful girls, all.
So…where do I get me some horse shampoo?

Adorable! (ps love your new glasses) xo js

  5. Beautiful pictures, you must me the greatest Aunt ever!! Reminds me of the hair flips in the pool that we’d make into George Washington “do’s!!”

Corey, your hair is beautiful. I love the color and it’s really getting long. Hope you keep it going like that. Deb has been letting her’s grow for the last couple years and it’s now down to the middle of her back. She threatens to cut it every summer when it gets hot but she knows I love long hair. Hope to see you before you leave.

What a beautiful post ! Your nieces are gorgeous kids ( Molly is my favorite though, since the seaweeds-haired mermaid pictures). All the pictures of hair flips are so joyous pretty fun filled. Ah les filles !!! 😉

  8. You have such pretty nieces Corey, and they have such beautiful hair.

What beautiful nieces you have! Their daddies are gonna have to beat the boys off with sticks and bats! MAN! I’d hate to be in those boys place ’cause it’s going to be a lifelong thing for the girls! Boys/then Men standing in line!

  10. That is awesome !

  11. So sweet and happy you are having such a lovely time.

Marvelous! Beautiful girls. Warm family feeling and memory making.

I LOVE all the wonderfully large individual photos of each girl, and the fun group ones made me laugh. Oh, and great job: putting the littler girls each on a stool so head heights were all the same.
Corey, you and I should have a hair-growing contest as our hair follicles are about the same age and output. Although your hair is a good 3″ longer than mine, I think.
PS. When I was a kid, my cousin and I would make our two dads sit next to each other and we would measure their (ever-expanding) bald spots. Whose-ever dad had the larger baldness, that cousin WON. The dads were only mildly amused but indulged us nonetheless.

Shoot, thought I posted a comment but it didn’t turn up. Now I’ll never remember what it was… oh, but I’ll make up something else.
I love the wonderfully huge individual photos of each girl, and those EYES. What remarkable variation and beauty in the eyes.
Good job, standing the littler girls on stools so all the heads were at the same height for the Big Contest!
When my cousin and I got together when we were little, we’d sit our two dads next to each other and competitively measure each dad’s ever-expanding bald spot: whoever had the dad with the biggest bald spot that visit WON. The dads were only mildly amused but indulged us nonetheless. They probably would have preferred to qualify for a hair-growing contest.

And now there are two comments almost the same from me. Huh. Feel free to delete one, dear Corey. I have no idea how that happened. R.

  17. It looks like you are having so much fun! You want to be my aunt too?! 😉
Your nieces are beautiful and they have beautiful hair! Long hair on young girls is so, so pretty!

  18. one of your sweetest posts E-V-E-R!

  19. La Contessa

    You look very skinny!,,

  20. What fun! Your nieces are gorgeous. At one time my hair was the color of Kate’s. Then came the 40’s and 50’s. It went darker with gray shimmers. 😉 (I like the idea of shimmers.) Horse shampoo has been a staple in our family for years. You can purchase it in the shampoo section of most grocery stores. Udder cream is good for the hands, too. No kidding!!!

  21. Wonderful photos Corey – is lovely seeing them all grow up – remember pics from when they were all little. My middle daughter is also asking for shorter and shorter hair styles now. She’s at shoulder length now and heading towards a bob, which she hasn’t had since she was a toddler! It looked gorgeous then, so I’m sure it will again!

  22. Marie-Noëlle

In French we would say : “Quelle belle brochette de filles!”
Would “What a beautiful string of girls!” express the same idea ??!??
I JUST LOVE THIS POST !!!
I’d love to meet you all, girls … even if I would be the big loser in your contest !!!
    xo

PS- Corey, do you know the song “Pendant que mes cheveux poussent” by Garou ???
    😉

  26. How wonderful to see everyone’s hair again, longer and more beautiful than last time. What lovely girls, so filled with youth and spirit and an aunt who is part of the fun.

  29. When returning from Switzerland some days ago, I went past a hairdresser’s in Berne with the lovely name:
HAIRlich…. (herrlich = wonderful, lovely) Made me laugh and kept me smiling for a long while.
I’m going to a shop here that has the brilliant name:
Hair du Temps… (air du temps)

That’s so adorable! I do think that the younger you are and the longer your hair, the better it looks? I can’t blame these kids for having such an amazing length of hair. Love, love!
