What is on Top of Your Christmas Tree?

Star

Because to day threatens to snow.

Because we heat our house with wood.

Because I am Cinderella keeping the fire burning.

Because my online brocante needs attending to (many new items to post.)

Because Annie wants me to cut her hair today.

Because my brother Mat did not receive the graduation photos I took of his son…

This post is short and simple:

What is on top of your Christmas tree?

A star, an angel, a top hat….

An antique dealer's son made the iron star in the photo (above). Underneath it I pinned a piece a paper that reads: Etolie Filantes = Shooting Star!

  1. Always a star. Before we were married, my then fiance made a 3D star out of two candy cane boxes and covered it with foil. We have been putting that star on our tree for almost thirty years now!

  2. An Angel. Have a Blessed Day, Corey!

  3. my star wouldn’t stay on, so I put a tiny wreath up with small lights attached.
    Have a great day Corey!

  4. A little heavily glittered paper star -fastened to the tree with a bit of pipe cleaner. The tree is about 2 ft. tall and made of barbed wire.

  5. Madonna and Child. Don would have a heart attack if there was anything else there.

  6. i like short and sweet at times-our tree topper is the plastic white star with a clear plastic circle around it the casts (or is suppose to) star like rays-it is the star my parents purchased for their first christmas in their new home the year they were married 50+ years ago-not fancy nor sparkley like i would prefer-but SO BEAUTIFULLY FAMILAR-smiling at just the thought of it!

  7. Hello to Annie. I had to look, but the top of our artificial tree is bare. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Hope your snow just makes things pretty for a while then melts quickly.

  8. For 32 years we have put a now faded red and white construction paper angel on top of the Christmas tree. It was created by our son Christopher when he was five. He forgot the halo and it has a crooked smile that watches over us during holiday. It is my most prized ornament.

  9. I like a star at the top of the tree.

  10. My wish is for everyone I know to get their wish! I’m in the midst of moving more stuff I do not need.

  11. Remember – I can’t have a Christmas tree anymore because my cats would always pee under it.
    Gross.
So this year I hung fresh garland across the living room and added big velvety bows.
    Take that, peeing cats.

white birds with glitter and crystal beads , I do have a white Christmas tree all covered with silver and crystal ornaments , bought this 19 years ago when my Mother died and I needed a little pick me up ,at the time my daughter called it tacky and now it has become very popular, and my daughter changed her mind!!!!
also have a normal green tree with all the ornaments my children made when young, it has a bright white lit star at its top.

  14. An aged angel that was from my childhood and was passed on to me. And she still Lights up thanks to my mother I’m sure. I like your star.

  15. We have three trees. The LR has a beautiful gold star, the FR tree has an Angel, and the Master BR has a vintage tree topper because this tree only has vintage ornaments. I have collected ornaments for about 20 yrs. Every yr I spent the day after Christmas buying beautiful ornaments from Macy’s or Dilliards. My trees are a works of art and we’re loving it. Hope you put your tree up Corey.

  16. An angel, given to me by a lovely friend, Arlene Clements, a kindergarten teacher for 3+ decades in Willows, CA. She was very thoughtful about who would receive her really, truly prized personal “traditions” as she aged. I was totally surprised & so honored to know that she wanted our family to have some “angels” that had been gifted to her or that she herself had purchased at the old Hallmark store in Willows, thanks Pam!
We have her “Hallmark” angel from several decades ago & 2, old, German Angels, with porcelain faces, that share space with my own angel collection & Arlene’s waxed faced angel music box that a friend had brought her from Germany decades ago.
(I’ve had to relocate that waxed angel to storage inside the house as the “wax” does melt in our Chico summertimes!!)
I think of Arlene each year when I put her angels out. Arlene shared many memories of her early years in Willows with us. We’re so happy to have shared some lovely remembrances with her over our decades in Willows.

  17. We stopped putting something on top of the tree after a breeze through an open window blew our Christmas tree over a few years ago. We did have a rather heavy angel up there which made the tree top heavy. We never had that problem when we lived in Chicago. Never opened the windows in December up there.

  18. The top of our living room tree is a pierced tin star. Our small tree in the dining room has a vintage horn and a bird sits at the top of a small one by my sink in the kitchen.

  19. Love the vintage star and I usually have an angle on my tree top – Have a wonderful wintery day!

  20. Love your metal star,
and I enjoy following your posts.
This year I have a special tree topper.
Being a Grandmother for the first time in October I made a lace heart with photo of my Grand Daughter, Quinn Annalise on it.
I posted a photo on my blog if you care to look.

  21. A paper mâché angel, made by a friend long since gone, painted ivory w a blue ribbon. Beautiful!

  22. Nothing. And you know… I’m okay with that for this time.
I had this ugly angel for years. I don’t remember buying her. Maybe I blocked the memory? Maybe she was a gift? I doubt it, though.
Anyway, I wanted something lovely and I haven’t found it yet so I am quite alright with having the tree without a topper this year.
Although your star is beautiful… something like that would be lovely.

  23. Oh no! Logs to heat your house! I empathise! When I read this I realised just how similar Provence and Malta are. And there was I thinking that it’s only here, an island with no main gas, that heating by log, the old-fashioned way, was the norm! I am freezing inside my stone house, although today it is at least 18 degrees C outside! Ridiculous. I manage til around 4.30pm then have to light up. But my stove heats one room only! So abed early to my electric blanket it is! Good luck Cinders! A fellow Med neighbour is thinking of you! We need some hot toddy nightcaps, methinks Corey!

  24. I have a cotton ball snowman on the top of my tree… that my daughter made for me almost 25 years ago!
This little guy is so floppy and falling apart… but I love him because she made it… and it has become a tradition each holiday season to proudly place him on top of the tree!
    Happy holidays
