The Right Place at the Right Time

Little boy skipping

I was walking in Paris when I saw a little boy skipping on the other side of the street. I smiled seeing him: Innocent, happy go lucky, carefree on a Sunday afternoon.

A gift in the moment.

As I watched him go down the street I saw the Parisian palette coming to play against the large, no enourmous grey doors as a picture perfect frame. The stage was going to be set in a matter of seconds. To capture the happiness of the little boy's skipping in front of the doors, I had to run faster than he was skipping (not so easy!) and at the same time pull out my camera, and try to hold steady a viewpoint.

The right place at the right time. I love moments like this.

    You nailed it!

  2. Perfect . . . certainly the right place at the right time . . .
    I think I hear him singing and whistling too . . .

  3. Nice! My daughter is spending the semester in Paris, so all photos are very evocative for me.

  4. I loved this! I can so relate to the right place photo op. When we were in Thailand I captured a young monk in orange robe against a pale curving marble staircase. I too ran to catch the right moment.

  5. This is a lovely capture of emotion. Thanks for sharing.

  6. Great eye (and quick feet)! Those doors really are enormous.

  7. Utterly magical.

  8. Skipping!
    There should be more skipping!
    I haven’t skipped in ages.
I’m going outside right now to skip.
I may even do some hopping.

  9. Great picture and those doors are wonderful! No doubt there is a nice courtyard behind.
In your previous post, the horse head that was used as a sign….believe it or not there is one coming up for auction at Bonham’s San Francisco. It is made of zinc. The estimate is $4-$6,000; crazy right? Here is the link:

  11. Perfect serendipity Corey! Just lovely. This photo reminds us that we should enjoy life with childlike candor, just like that boy.

  12. Corey, you could submit this to a travel photo contest!

  13. SPOILER ALERT: Did anyone else watch “Castle” on TV last night? Ah, Paree…

  14. Oh yes, perfection! I think those of us that carry cameras often are always looking, but not often as fortunate as this shot. Love it!

  15. Don’t you just love it when that happens. Yes, hands clapping for you both. xxpeggybraswelldesign.com

  16. And you caught the moment! Lovely shot.
And you caught the essence of being in the right place at the right time… you sometimes have to run faster than you like to get in place, it’s not just about sitting in one place and hoping for the best!

  17. c’est magnifique!
In my humble opinion you just went from the hobbyist photographer to a “true” professional who goes the distance for that “perfect” shot…

  18. Great photo and lovely doors – congratulations!

  19. Well done, Corey!
People often think pictures of moments like these are sheer serendipity – it does take more, though, than sheer luck to capture them, like awareness of one’s surroundings and, at times, a quick dash to actually be there when the moment happens.

  20. Corey took that jump a long time ago, in my humble opinion.

  21. Yes! But they do go for a small fortune!

  22. You my dear lead the pack! Merci!

    Just wonderful!!!

  24. oh to feel that joyous everyday-the lessons that children teach-PRICELESS!

  25. Fantastic photo.
But please be careful of running on a sidewalk and not paying attention to where you are going. 🙂 A fall would not, not, not be good, my Dear.
I know… I’m a “worry-wart.” But anyone who calls herself “Auntie,” HAS to be a “worry-wart”! It the Rule. 🙂

  26. Great photo Corey! Just be careful and don’t fall while running down a Paris street! I fell twice on my icy sidewalk yesterday and I feel rather stiff and sore today.

  27. Love the contrast, a small light-stepped boy doing a happy hop next to doors that look like they are made of steel, so tall and imposing…

  28. Gorgeous and so sweet! I wonder what his thoughts were.

  29. IT is so nice to see a happy child,
and always nice to see the beautiful things about France

  30. His carefree joy is so apparent in your photo. Brava!

  31. You nailed this one, Corey!!! Simple perfection!

  32. I’m catching up with emails ~ life is very hectic and not so chipper as this carefree picture!! Then I noticed you posted it on my birthday 2/19! Wish I had seen it that day, but now it seems like a belated birthday card, that special treat that pops up when you least expect it <3!!
