Chilled Calories with a Childhood Friend

Rennes center

We arrived in Rennes, Yann's childhood hometown.

Galettes, crepes, hard cidre, and kouign-amann.

Strawberry short

Yann's childhood friend made this treat for us.

I like to thing they are Strawberry Short with out the cake or the extra calories. That is until they brought out a bottle of champagne. Chilled calories.

Unfortunately, we won't have time to go to this expo.

Have you ever wanted to take the poster/ad from the shop window?

As my Belle Mere (mother in law) and I went for a stroll through the center of town, we came across an action house. Paintings and books. As the auction was underway, we watched… painfully if you know what I mean.

Rennes looking out

Yann's mom will drive back with us.

Her bag is packed as we are leaving tomorrow.

Early.

Though I know what early means to Yann and his mom…

Corey, How fortunate you are. I so dearly loved my mother-in-law. I have so may wonderful memories of and with her. We were so alike and enjoyed many of the same things. Enjoy – time is precious. Safe travel, Cheri H.

I invited a friend to go to church with me on Sunday. Told her that my family has usually gone to early service at 8:30. She rolled her eyes, said she has to be at work at 7am work days and so appreciates sleeping in on the weekends. We are going to the 11 a.m. service..
Belle mere looks gorgeous and very happy!

  3. All I need to know is, how much champagne? Is it poured over the strawberries, or simply sipped along side? Either way would be heavenly!

Heard somewhere recently (perhaps on “Jeopardy!”) that the average strawberry contains about 200 seeds. It always feels as though they all wind up between my teeth 😉

    Strawberries and champagne – heavenly!

Painfully? Because the stuff was good and the prices were cheap? Or the other way around, LOL. There is a great auction in LA on Monday – wish you could go to the preview with us! I will have to behave and not bid, although there is this awesome Empire chair that has caught my eye.

I love the berries and, of course, the stylish Belle Mere…looking all through the blog for stories of Annie and can’t seem to find. Is there a link to Annie stories? I’ve been away for a while and would so enjoy a good soak in some of her wisdom.

Love kouign amann!! Safe travels Corey…I am heading to the airport in a couple of hours and will be in Paris tomorrow!

Second Marsha on the Kouign Amann — a well-kept French secret, which we liked even better than macarons in Paris! Would love to be able to find Kouign Amann in the US, if anyone knows of places where it’s well-made.

  11. re-reading comments and it struck me again the reds in these photos are so pretty!
