That Can Only Mean One Thing…

Front door

What a lovely ten days we had taking a little tour of France by the backroads.

I plan on blogging our route, places were we stayed, dined, and other tidbits in a few days.

What I enjoyed most about our drive through France, was the many many villages we passed through. If we had stopped in each one for ten minutes we would arrive home in the year 2113. I am not kidding.

No wonder France has a million brocantes.

If you ever want to live in the middle of France, I am here to tell you there are many beautiful places and incredible old homes to drool over.

Narrow passage France

Century old stone walls and houses, with narrow street.

What was sad was how many were empty with big "VENDRE" (sale) signs on them.

The French villages are changing, cities and the neighboring towns are growing.

A French village in the middle of France

I took so many photos on the go…  I will never remember all of them.

Brocante shop in France

As we drove passed this shop (I leaned out the car window to take this photo) I realized it had a wine barrel, a black kettle, and oxen horns in the windows. A brocante? No, it felt more like a Magic Potion kind of place.

Chateau in Vitre France

"If I was not King of France, I would want to be bourgeois from Vitré!

Henri IV, King of France, surprised by the richness of the city in 1598."

via Wiki about Vitre.

Yann and I drove through this town, which in next to his hometown Rennes, about five days ago. One of the many things I learned on this little tour of France, was that Yann's Great Grandfather was an architect and designed a church in Vitre.

Did we see it?

No.

Why?

Good question!

"Well, I guess that means, we will have to come back." Is what I thought out loud.

Depot brocante

Depot brocante.

I think I deserve a medal for not stopping at every brocante I saw!

Do you know how many I saw?

Do you know how many I stopped at?

Only two.

That can only mean one thing…

I am going back dang it!

One thing I’ve learned from your trip is that there are many places well worth a visit, besides the obvious ones like Mont St. Michel. Vitre looks pretty wonderful.

Your trip has made me fall in love with France. I always thought if I traveled, I would head to the homeland of my ancestors (Norway & Wales). Now, I am thinking France must be included. The architecture alone had me swooning to say nothing of the countryside. I wonder if Depot Brocante means that the train will deliver your boxcar of goods to your home? Thanks Corey and Yann for a fabulous tour.

I suspect this is true almost everywhere, Diogenes, not just in France.

A wonderful trip Corey, and thanks for sharing it through your lovely photos. Sad so many fine old homes are empty, a sign of the times perhaps? Wish I owned one!

  11. Thank you so much for taking us along! It nourishes the soul to know there are still so many corners of France where the past has pooled and gathered. So much beauty!

  12. Must say…..love when you use the term, ;French husband’
Just too cute, i miss it, and though i have read of those who prefer ‘Yann’ this name, is not French, sounds more like western Europe. No matter. Keep up
    your delightful muses…

Each and every village is so beautiful. I can’t believe you stopped at only 2! What a sweet little shop with amazing things in the window. I would have had to stop for sure and look closely into the window.
