Being with my daughter, after work, in Paris.

Meeting point on the bridge: Pont Neuf.

Walk bridge in paris

Our family friends leave tomorrow.

The work on our apartment in Paris starts (At last!) next week.

And Thierry, our dear friend, returned a few days ago to a new clinic, he is safer there.

Life is like a bridge, crossing the water below, whether raging, steady, stagnant… creek, stream, waterfall…

What bridge are you crossing today?

"The Pont Neuf (French pronunciation: [pɔ̃ nœf], New Bridge) is, despite its name, the oldest (1557) standing bridge across the river Seine in Paris, France. Its name, which was given to distinguish it from older bridges that were lined on both sides with houses, has remained. It stands by the western point of the Île de la Cité, the island in the middle of the river that was the heart of medieval Paris.

The bridge is composed of two separate spans, one of five arches joining the left bank to the Île de la Cité, another of seven joining the island to the right bank. Old engraved maps of Paris show how, when the bridge was built, it just grazed the downstream tip of the Île de la Cité; since then, the natural sandbar building of a mid-river island, aided by stone-faced embankments called quais, has extended the island. Today the tip of the island is the location of the Square du Vert-Galant, a park named in honour of Henry IV, nicknamed the "Green Gallant"."

  1. I’m crossing the bridge today as to whether we will have a job in a year or not. I’m very nervous.

Recall how much we enjoyed strolling along the Left Bank at dusk, crossing the bridges there. Have some great photos of the Pont Neuf and neighboring bridges.
Am in the final throes of completing a book translation I’ve been working on intermittently the past couple years. Should be able to “cross the bridge” (i.e., emailing the manuscript to the author) within a week.

  3. Today I am crossing the bridge from thinking about a project to actually starting it – time to get at it…
Good luck with the renovation, and I also wish Thierry the best of luck at the new clinic. “Safe” is such a comforting word…

We need to build more bridges rather than walls.

  5. Corey,
Your precious girl grows even more beautiful every time I see a new picture of her. Paris definitely agrees with her. How wonderful for you to be able to spend some time with her.

  6. It looks like it is still cold in Paris… I was there last month and it was rainy and chilly, I would have thought by now it would have warmed up!

  7. A friend’s son proposed to his girl friend on this bridge, so I do think of them when I see and hear of this bridge. Chelsea as always beautiful. How exciting for her to have this internship at Dannon. Glad Thierry is in a safe place and you can begin working on the apartment.

I am hopefully crossing a bridge to a slimmer me. 😉
Chelsea, are Greek yogurts as popular in France as they have become in the US of late?

  9. “Life is a very narrow bridge. The important thing is to never be afraid.” (Fortune cookie sentiment)

  10. Bridges are meant to be crossed, lest we stay stagnant while looking at the other side – the trick is to not burn them so you can cross back, if needed.

I am so glad to hear that Thierry has found a safe place to land. May his wings mend and may he learn to soar. Chelsea is so beautiful, inside and out.

  14. Hi Corey, Sounds like there are lots of bridges in your life right now. Hope they are taking you to a lovely space of calm and creativity and maybe a few more adventures! xx

  15. I can’t wait to come back and explore this area more . . .every single inch of it.
The water is deep with a complexity of color – thank God I can swim, but I am getting tired.
