Plaster, Lead Pipes and a Bomb Threat

Radiator

Today was about the radiator. The old pipes (the main valve was in lead) were removed, new copper ones will be added.

We were late today as the train had a bomb threat.

I didn't know that there was a bomb threat until I arrived in Paris. Such a nice welcoming feeling.

All is well, except for the lead pipes.

Electrical cable

The entrance of the apartment has ugly mosaic flooring. Its going. This is the amazing amount of cable, like a snake, running through out the apartment.

50 square meters is roughly 539 square feet.

Can you imagine six men last week worked inside. Two carried debris (five tons) down stairs, one carried a few tons upstairs, two knocked down walls, one bagged the debris to be carried downstairs, and one crazy girl tried to take photos. Though most the time the girl was in awe of the precision, muscles, and trying to protect her camera from the amazing amount of dust.

Yes we wore mask, sometimes.

Mixing plaster

Making plaster was today's agenda. No nails.

Alcove plastered

Plastering the alcove.

Finding the alcove made the kitchen move to another area.

Flexible is another word for change of plans.

Plaster

Still life.

Tools of the trade, French

Tools all over the place.

Electrical counters

The electrical and water counter are inside of the apartment, in the entrance.

Boards out the window

The base boards, came through the front door, then they stuck them out the window to get a good angle to put them into the living room.

Cozy.

You got to like one another on this sort of project or quit.

Beams for floor

The base boards, or support boards that will run under the floor boards. Does that make sense?

Valve

My mother in law (Belle Mere) came today to add to the merriment of the tiny space.

This is a water valve.

Faux plafond

We took down the only closet in the apartment, to add the kitchen.

Choices.

Clothes or food.

Easy choice for the guys who work half naked….

Construction site

It is hard for me not to organize and clean up the place. But then that would ruin their rhythm and structure.

I will add a floor plan tomorrow.

Ooooo….a floor plan! This is one of my favorite things ever….Can’t wait to see it!

  2. Fun stuff! We call the boards under the floors sleepers.
They are lying down under the blanket of the floor!
    Enjoy your project!

Definitely better to know afterwards rather than before about a bomb threat! Glad you arrived safely. I’m really enjoying your photo essays about the renovation, and like many of your followers, I’m sure, appreciating the hunky torsos amidst the dust and excavations :)))

So if the water/electric meters are inside you must be there to answer the door to have them read?

How are you going to make the meters look less obvious? Makes sense those slats are called base boards. What do they call the moulding on top of the floor, against the base of the wall?

love the work photos. The floor does not seem so ugly, but…ah, I love a floor plan and a guy with no shirt.

  7. Good that you are able to add some space to the kitchen. Let the search for an armoire beging. How fortuitous that you are in the land of the armoire!

I am thoroughly enjoying your posts here and on Facebook. What a job for a little space! Can’t wait to see the floors plan to better visualize.

How do the neighbors deal with all this?

  11. Can’t wait to see a floorplan! I agree with Carolyn that the mosaic floors are kinda nice, we have that style here in Florida in the houses built in the 1950’s. That’s vintage for Florida so the floors are nostalgic for me.:)

  12. What will you do about storage and closet space, Corey?
