Not Complaining, Just Saying, Sleep is a Luxury I am Taking

We arrived home on Thursday, after a nine hour drive, from Paris to Provence.

This is a long weekend in France, August 15th is a holiday within a holiday month. If you are a tourist in France, you will note that the Parisians are in Provence and Provencecals are in the Alps, or as I see it on the road one way or another. Traffic jam with stuffed cars.

We will return to Paris next week for the last leg of renovating the apartment, traffic jams continue!

Yesterday I thought it was Saturday. Blame it on the holiday on Thrusday.

Last night I slept for 10 hours. Wow. I could take a nap right now.

I think I will blow out a candle on one end.

What are you up to?

Happy Saturday!

  1. So glad you were able to give your mind and body the rest it so obviously needed! Sleep is hard to come by for me and I am not interested in training my body to need a pill. Get in a good nap for me on your holiday weekend, will you? Hope you enjoy the rest and relaxation before you face the traffic once again.

  2. I’m getting in to my bed for the last time as a thirty-something year old. In ten minutes I will be sleeping and forty. Looking forward to the simple pleasures of the kids waking me in the morning for a breakfast they have been plotting all day. Life is very good.

  3. We are enjoying a very cool summer here. Every day has been around 75 degrees until yesterday, when it warmed up a good bit. The big news this week was that Lady Gaga showed up unannounced at The Abbey on Sunday – it is a bar within walking distance from us. Then on Monday, she appeared with an entourage at another local bar. Sadly, we only saw it on the news.

  4. I am seeing what you are up to while my sweet little grandson takes his nap nearby. I must bake some pies, the fruit is plentiful.

  5. Sleep well and rest. I have just said goodbye to house guests and am about to go off to the US to stay with mt mom!

  6. Made a batch of peppermint soap today. Smells wonderful….
    Enjoy your weekend, Corey! xo

  7. Rest well, dear Corey. 🙂

  8. “I think I will blow out a candle on one end.”
I LOVE THAT! You know, Corey, I repeat what you told me on our visit often, that “it’s ok.” [said with an authentic shrug of your lovely shoulder]
    Feeling better, still healing.

  9. Janet with Eiffel

Started out for Home Depot this morning to get
some needed supplies to correct an irrigation
problem I discovered a couple of days ago.
Got side tracked by a few garage sales.
Saw a really nice patio table,
    had to buy it….$10 !!!
Now I have ANOTHER table for the patio
(you just never know when you might need another table)
Finally got to Home Depot, got the stuff,
don’t think I’ll fix the sprinklers today.
    I’m gonna paint my table.

  10. It is hot, again. Went to a garage sale and found a work table. Hubby got a little carried away. That is the reason we no longer go to auctions. 🙂 Napping is good for the soul. Relax and sweet dreams.

  11. I attended a wedding yesterday afternoon (Friday), and have thought that today is Sunday all day!

  12. Herculean task, this renovation what with staging and moving mountains of materials and debris, driving those long back and forths, coming across the hitches and solving them! Sleep the sleep of the waves and dream the dream of apples…Neruda? Lorca? Both?

  13. I did those meddlesome tasks/ chores that I hadn’t been able to do for the past six weeks. Yeah!
Hope you got a good night’s sleep.

  14. I’ll be going to a coffee morning networking group to market my books and my Riviera Writers Retreat in April – a sort of mixing business with pleasure!

  15. For the love of a Saturday..
Slept in, trail run, called home, and dragged my husband to a subtitled matinee at the Vogue Theatre in SF.
‘The Attack’ so suspenseful and thrilling.
    Excellent!

  16. Worked…flew from LA to Puerto Vallarta to Denver then back to LA…all in 1 day. While driving home, I watched the fireworks at Disneyland from the 5 freeway. Just glad to be in my own bed, reading your blog. Small blessings make life grand.

  17. I am a day late to comment, but after a migraine yesterday, I decided this morning to stay in bed and potter around the internet updating my sorely neglected blog and planning my next project. It is 10.42 and I am still here and enjoying it. No interruptions and no demands, heavenly! I hope you enjoyed your lie in after all the work that you have been doing both mind and body need a rest.
I have not been renovating but I have helped my daughter move and paint her new home, freshened our house, by painting everything white, and I now have a room of my own, it has been very exhausting but equally cathartic. Now I want to create something, practical, frivolous, and hopefully pleasing to the eye.

  18. Angelique Iriarte

I long to click on “Welcome to Tongue In Cheek’s Brocante” and not see a butterfly print staring back at me!! LOL!!
Welcome home……..I’m loving your adventure and humor. I hope to visit and meet you one day. xo Angelique

  19. I have no idea what day it is. My children and grandchildren are all visiting! Went to a family reunion yesterday and have my husband’s family all coming today. Sleep will have to wait. We’re making memories and I love it!

  20. Caring for husband, post-op from back surgery. Hope to create some art, and take a few photos…such good therapy!
As for you, rest. Rest the mind, the eyes, the body. Then you’ll be good to go for the final finish!

Glad you were able to get some shut-eye after your long trip home. I was reminded of my 1993 trip to Paris with my sisters. We were allowed 3 trips by Eurail then and made a snap decision to take the high speed train to LaRochelle. While there we met most of the Parisians who were absent from the streets of Paris. Took a quick ferry ride around the harbor and returned to the quiet streets of Paris in one day. Yes, LaRochelle was a beautiful vacation spot!

  22. Franca Bollo

    10 hours? That’s Franca’s baseline.

  23. It was hotter than the sun yesterday. I stayed inside to finish my organizing and purging project. Kind of hard to sell a car when you cannot find the title, ugh!
Later I jumped into the pool to cool off but headed back into the house to start again on some projects.
Sleep is good, I try to get 8 hours every night.

  24. Drove from Connecticut to NYC with a good GF and went to lunch and the theatre. Found a great inexpensive Spanish Cafe, talked our hearts out and walked around the (West) Village (my old neighborhood). It is where my heart still resides. One-man play was a hilarious fantasy about an actor working for Barbra Streisand. He plays all the parts and does it very well. Wishing you some good R&R Corey.

  25. Very late to comment, but here goes my Saturday…
Husband drove daughter to brunch with other 9 year old friends, and when he arrived, noticed there was a nail sticking out of the tire… Wise 9 year old warned dad not to pull nail, but he didn’t listen, and as soon as he pulled the nail, the tire deflated…
Friends who witnessed this sad spectacle — parents to our 6 year old’s best buddy, as well as the 9 year old’s– took pity on us, and thrust tickets to a fireworks show in his hands for the 4 of us. Thinking that they had given us tickets they weren’t able to use, we showed up only to find them there, waiting for us. (Wise 9 year old tried to tell us, but we didn’t believe her) Much joy and happiness all around.
After a wonderful competitive spectacle (on comfortable numbered seats), they invited us over to their restaurant, where we talked and talked until 2 am.
It’s probably been decades since I went to bed at 3 am, what a a great start to my 2 week vacation it was! Friends, wine, fun, great conversation, happy kids …and a luxurious mattress to come home to.
I hope that you too Corey have a comfy mattress to enjoy as you catch up on your zzzzzs!

  26. Getting ready to leave for Cassis and the Vaucluse in exactly 2 weeks time. It’s a chilly winter here in Melbourne so can’t wait for the warmth of the Provencale sun.

  27. Brenda Roberts

Garage sales! Finally found a table that I can work at while standing – it is a tall bistro table, so the workspace is a tad small, but sturdy, on chrome legs, so it’ll do. Found some great stuff – fun all day and lots of treasures…almost as good as brocante-ing! Ha, when I saw your art post Friday, I thought, “she got confused from all the activity and thinks it is Saturday”. Bingo!
