Ripping out the floor. An unknown leak is underneath. Probably caused by a nail? Though we are not sure where the “hole” is. We might have to tear it completely out.
We might have to tear out the entire floor! I will explain more tomorrow.
Poor Regis!
Poor neighbor!
Crazy unknown error.

That sinking feeling … I am so sorry, Corey!

Ai,ai,ai. I’m so sorry Corey and how frustrating for Regis. I’m sure that there are lots of French “swear” words flying. I will pray that the leak will be found lickety-split.

Keep your shirt. Before you jump to the conclusion that Regis made a “crazy unknown error” wait and see. Accidents and honest mistakes happen. Poor Regis.

Oh my…

I am so sorry for the trouble, but at least the trouble is in PARIS!!!!
-
Corey,
I pray that God will reveal to you the exact location of the leak so that your re-work will be minimized. -
I thought of one word (“and please excuse my French”) merde!
-
Oh the bad words that Regis et al must be using. As we used to say as teenagers “cover your virgin ears”!
Hope the cause is found quickly with minimal floorboard removal. -
A similar thing happened when we did our bathroom reno some years ago… Husband had just installed the 3/4″ ply base and the toilet, when a pipe burst and water began to gush out of the pocket doors in the dining room. Not a good day. Hope all goes back together again. 🙂

So sorry for your troubles. Especially sorry for Regis as I am sure he is very distressed to have this happen “on his watch”. As your Brother Mat commented, accidents happen. Good luck to you all. This too shall pass.

Oh no! I am so sorry Corey! So sorry for Régis, Yann and your neighbour too.
Hope you don’t need to re-do the entire floor, fingers crossed! -
Sorry to hear about this setback.
Two years from now, it will be just a “sigh” – a “remember when……”
Best to you all – it will work out. -
Should add, this just happened to my colleague. He had lots of work done on his house, only to find a leak the week after the workers left. Fortunately, it was a slow leak, and buckets contained it. Turned out to be the fault of a finishing nail which punctured a copper pipe.
Hoping it is something of a similar magnitude for you too! -
I feel your pain…it’s the not knowing where the source of the problem is what adding gray hair when it comes to construction work. Hopefully Regis find the source.
-
It’s just going to take some time to identify, then correct the cause — but you will find it. This too shall pass. Deep breaths, guys, deep breaths.
-
I am so sorry to hear your news, Corey. I hope you guys can find the leak quickly without too much damage . . . wish I was there to lend a helping hand.
-
That explains the blue streaks in the air…must be lots of descriptive language being thrown about. We had a pipe leak caused by a nail, but it took 40 years to actually leak. My husband was fixed it with a shark clamp thing, but only after he had cut up the wrong pipe, so we had two repairs instead of one. We had really blue walls that day. Good luck!

Hope you find the problem quickly – bonne chance et bon courage!

oh noooooooo! poor you all – I have kept thinking about you and the terror of what ‘might be to come’ and it looks as bad as I feared. I continue to send warm and tender thoughts to you all – you’ll need it.
try to get a ‘coffee pass’ at Regis or Flora meanwhile…
BIG hugs, K -
e yi yi. or how ever that is spelled. whatever it takes to keep the stress controlled, a sense of peace, do it now , for you, for Yann, for Regis. Peace my sister. xo jody in fl

Corey, I feel deeply for your situation and the disappointment you must feel just as you were beginning to decorate the apartment. Having restored some old houses, I truly understand what you may be going through. I wish you all better days ahead after the leak is discovered, the neighbor’s ceiling repaired, your apt. restored. Bon courage! Hugs in cyberspace.

There is nothing more disheartening than water in the wrong place. I know of what I speak! Take heart Corey. We are all thinking of you.

The joy of renovating. Doesn’t something always happen. Seems like it never goes smoothly.
-
all is well + the leak will be found, pronto. So sorry xxpeggybraswelldesign.com

Best thing of all….you don’t live in Syria!
Keep on keepin’ on, nothing else to do. The problem will be revealed with much relief and you will be able to go on with your project. Next year you will sit back and remember, and maybe even laugh, sitting in your beautiful apartment in Paris.
Life is a kick. -
What a mess, know exactly how you feel. I pray the leak is found soon and fixed.
betsy -
Don’t worry, Corey, they’ll find the cause and repair it for good. The floor will go easily back in and you’ll forever understand that renovation is like that.
Maybe God didn’t want you to think it too easy?
