Each Saturday I focus on a different artist that I admire.
From potters to painters, chefs to collectors, seamstress to songwriters, lifestyle to lovers… anyone who set the paintbrush, pastry brush, hands and heart on fire to create.
Those who inspire art to flow where it may.
Darlene Richter has been creating art her whole life. I recently found out about her through her cousin Patrice, who I met through blogging and came to stay with me last month. I asked Darlene to tell me about herself and her artwork that I might feature her on Saturday Art Saves.
Darlene wrote, "It took a long time to realize that I’m never really happy
unless I’m in the midst of making something that
expresses my vision of beauty.
My eye delights in a graceful line;
a surprising twist or spiral…"
"…and my heart skips a beat when I see
a lovely piece of interesting texture, color or sparkle;
an intriguing juxtaposition of elements."
For the past five years I’ve worked exclusively in jewelry design,
and love that it gives me an opportunity to use my art and design background
to create one-of-a-kind pieces of art jewelry (or jewelry art?).
Thus, DRDesigns was born.
"Each piece is hand-made by me in my studio using age-old techniques
and simple tools: torch, hammer, pliers and saw.
I value the art of craftsmanship:
of building emotion, meaning and beauty into a piece to make it
heart-felt and timeless."
"I view jewelry as a site-specific piece of sculpture,
whose installation site is the body,
and whose purpose is to enhance both:
a strip of Sterling Silver glistening against tan skin;
a row of colorful beads winding around a slender wrist;
a bold pendant gracing a beautiful neckline;
a sparkly pair of earrings giving a warm glow to a woman’s face."
"I love sharing my work with others who appreciate creative design
and want distinctive jewelry to express their personal sense of style.
Wearing a piece of DRDesigns jewelry
means you have a special piece of creative artistry,
made from love and inspiration."
