The “IT” Color This Season in France

It color this year

My Belle Mere and I went shopping today.

My Belle Mere loves to shops. Classic chic is her style. At 84 she still stays in tune with what is hip and what is not. Every season, when the new styles and trends come out, she takes a walk around the shops making a mental note of what is THIS season's must have, to stay in synch with fashion.

With each season there is a new "IT" (accent) color. Red, Orange… were the last seasons. When I first came to France it was green.

As we walked around the shops, I asked her what the "It" color was this season. Usually, I can figure it out by a glance in the shops' windows. But for some reason this year I wasn't getting it.

My Belle Mere simply said, "Black."

I let out a squeel of delight.

And then I knew why it hadn't struck me. I wear mostly black so it hadn't occurred to me that black is back. Not that it ever left. But this season it is the "IT" color.

So I bought a cranberry red sweater, just to shake it up.

When i saw Chelsea she gasped, "Mother you are wearing color! Are you feeling okay?"

What  is  your  favorite  color  to  wear?

  1. Last year it must have been sage green because I bought three tops of different styles-same color.

  2. favorite colors to wear? Grey, navy, dark brown and black.

Corey, black is good, but why only black for you? Why do you stay away from color?

  4. I have never seen so many ‘moutons’ following black as I have seen here in France. Does no one have (except the cranberry lady) the ‘tripes’ to step out in colour?

Last year it must have been green; Not the greens I would wear like forrest green, olive green, jade or even turquoise. But a real Crayola crayon green… like the first letter in your question above.

  6. Aquamarine, Jacaranda, Azure, Hot Pink, Tangerine, Vermillion.
I just wish I could wear Sunshine Yellow.

  7. For casual it has to be pink (pink is my favorite color) but for anything else it would be black–black goes with any accent color and is flattering.

  8. my sister wears color and it works on her…I mean red jeans mustard yellow suit pants neon green(just a hint)in a fancy blouse I am the complete opposite black-white shirts- navy if I feel daring– patterns no- solids yes– red is my favorite color -just not to wear unless it is the color on the soles of my shoes-

  9. Well, like you, I adore black. I’m leaning more now towards all shades of grey. Dark grey is my favorite!

  10. Black for me!

  11. Hi Iowa Julie,
    Blame it on my mom.

  13. I wear a lot of black, but red is my top favorite color. It’s the color of happiness.

  16. Monsieur D,
    Love your color palette.

  17. HA!!! I am soooo with you!! I wear black bottoms (pants, skirts, etc.) and white tops almost exclusively!! When I do branch out and wear another color someone always comments! Last year I took a trip with a friend and packed several “different” color tops….when I opened my suitcase, my friend gasped…”Oh no….you have someone else’s luggage…”.

I’ve been wearing black since Jr. High school. You can dress it up or down. Back then it was sheek, now its forgiving…I’am with you!

  19. A hint of azur blue, purple, or raspberry but anything goes with black, bien sur!

  20. Black is always right. I love black & white. Somehow, I always feel sleek, clean, polished. Now, there is animal print to jazz it up a bit, but I just bought a huge pile of new things and almost all of it is black/white/ with navy/purple/raspberry to complement. xx’s

  21. Black! It looks fabulous AND I can bring home new clothes and stay under my husbannd’s radar because he can’t keep track of all the black.

  22. Basic black, with a pop of aqua, or red, or fuscia or purples!

When I read last question, I could not possibly give an answer… So I went to my bedroom cupboard to have a look at my wardrobe… I opened the doors and at first glance there are 2 main colours in there : black and grey…
Yes, black is back this year.
Together with navy blue, pink and maroon… !

Thank goodness I’m back in again. Black is my very favorite non-color color and has been for decades. I’ve had friends suggest I’m depressed, but when I try to wear colors, especially primary colors (ugh!), I feel as if I had on someone else’s clothes. Since I usually do have on someone else’s clothes…because I buy almost everything at thrift shops…I know the real issue is one of color. Thank your mother-in-law for keeping us in the know!

  25. Black and BORDEAUX are the fashion colors I was told!YOU ARE A FASHION STATEMENT through and through!BRAVA AGAIN.

Black, white, gray…did I mention black?

  27. I wear mostly black…and now I am going to savior the fact that I am chic. Who would have thought.

  28. Black, black and more black. I have been wearing it pretty much exclusively for years. It’s so simple and saves on the clothing expense. Easy to pack too. Just add that pop of color or something that is “dans le vent” -a different piece of jewelry, bag, new knee high (black) boots, and you are good to go.

  29. Goodness, black is very popular with Corey’s readers…but it is brown for me…with some green-blue sometimes and occasionally a yellowy-green.

  30. ha, I also did not know the IT color was black + I wear green as I am a redhead + black drains me + only wear with a pop of color. xxpeggybraswelldesign.com

  31. Black, but it makes me look dead so I wear brown now. Btw, just had some chestnut gnocchi! To die for!

  32. My favorite color to wear is garnet tones. (And black too! )

  33. My choice has been black since 1985 with a touch of red, white, or pink. I noticed not too long ago Ralph Lauren was black with a touch of pink, such as a ballet sweater. I loved it and planning to buy a pink ballet sweater soon.

  34. When I was an adolescent I loved lavender and gray, which my mother complained about because she said they were “old lady” colors. I still love them, but the other thing is no longer an issue 😉
