French Family Pancakes Chez Nous

French family dinner chez nous

Chelsea and Sacha were home for the weekend. The kitchen was the stage.

Food rolled out like it had when they lived at home. It came as a surprise to me, though I don't know why, it isn't like I don't remember, just how much food and dishes, so many dishes one has to do to feed a family.

Chelsea and Sacha had friends over.

We lived around the table.

Chelsea asked me to write our family recipes so she could have them.

Sunday morning, like Saturday morning pancakes were desired. I make mine from scratch. There was a contest. Who could eat the most. I lost. Though I should have won the prize because I flipped 78 pancakes. I had three pancakes.

Chelsea had 15.

Her friend Lea had 15.

French Husband had 15.

Sacha had 15, and his girlfriend who is smaller than my thigh had 15 too.

Breakfast and lunch = 15 pancakes each.

  1. Corey,
you are the only other person I know who makes pancakes with yoghurt, makes for wonderful taste and texture, doesn’t it? I “discovered” it by accident, when one fine morning I had no buttermilk in the fridge.
I was reminded this weekend, when we celebrated Thanksgiving, how much food and how many dishes I prepared and washed on a daily basis when the children were small and the school was just up the hill. Most afternoons I fed not only my own four, but their friends, too. It is mind boggling to think of the mountains of groceries I shlepped home!

  2. It is pancake season! Mo Rocca did a feature about pancakes on Sunday Morning yesterday. Will try your recipe this weekend. Thanks for posting it.

  3. Loved your pancake family story. I would like to make these pancakes tomorrow. Never had yogurt in the pancakes. Could you please tell me how much of each ingredient you use. Thank you. They sound so YUMMY. We live in Vermont and it is col and snowy outside our log cabin and this would be go good for lunch tomorrow.
    Thank you

  4. YOU ARE GORGEOUS!!!!

  5. Now I want pancakes! Right now!
    Thanks for the recipe.

  6. 78 pancakes??!!
I hope they were propping up your feet on a pouff and serving you cups of tea after that!
My husband (French Canadian Husband) makes very similar pancakes, but with sour cream and 2 eggs. The eggs are separated, the whites stiffly beaten, and carefully folded in at the end.
Today, with FCH off in Geneva on a business trip, at the end of a long commute and a long day at the office, I gave up and did something I’ve never done before: I ordered pizza because I didn’t have the energy to cook. Now, I have to go and get their lunchboxes ready for the morrow. (Would that we had the French cantine here!!!)

  7. Loved this story…life is good when you can gather around the table with family and friends with good food and conversation. We must try this recipe for our pancakes. This story brought a smile to my face as I could just imagine the scene at your table. Blessings my friend!
