Photo and Design Via Célia Granger
Every Saturday I focus on a different artist that I admire. From potters to painters, chefs to collectors, seamstress to songwriters, lifestyle to lovers… anyone who set the paintbrush, pastry brush, hands and heart on fire to create.
Those who inspire art to flow where it may.
My friend Laurie wrote to me about her friend, "I wanted to send you links to a fellow leather artisan that I thought might be interesting for your Art Saves feature. Célia is the artisan I did my apprenticeship with. She is exceptionally talented and her business is growing by leaps and bounds."
Célia Granger makes handmade leather purses. Made to measure. Incredible perfection.
"Célia worked for Hermes, her work is Hermes quality, and now she does her own collections and custom work in addition to small productions for other designers. And on top to of it all, she is a super person!"
A custom made purse, from such talent and workmanship.
"Célia took the step of opening her own studio in the 12e near the Bastille (Paris) last year, and it is a beautiful space."
Célia has an eye for detail. For clean lines and respectful elegance.
Célia wrote about how she decided to create purses:
Célia writes on her website: "Bags. Each one I create comes from the person's preferences for the bag they devise. Its identity, its shape, its grip, its handles, its size, its pockets, its preferred storage areas, the personal details.
Made-to-measure is inspired by the memory of other bags, drawing on their most ingenious ideas.
Lastly, we have the lines: as pure as possible, sober, without adornment, just the structure needed to elegantly satisfy the essential."
