Sunday Afternoon Lunch in Cassis: Romano

Cassis Sunday Afternoon

Provence in December can be a dream come true.

Blue skies with no need for a coat.

We headed to Cassis for lunch.

C&Y Lunch

Happy place.

Cassis with one cloud

We walked along the port we know so well.

Thinking about how we would like to live here, it is something we do often:

"In the center of the old town."

"I don't need a view do you?"

"Who needs a view when five steps away you have the port and the sea."

"But I like our house too, especially in the summer."

"Cassis during the summer… too many tourists."

"We should move."

"We should."

Then we walked with our dream. Some dreams are meant to be dreams. Dreaming about them is sometimes all one needs."

After all we live twenty minutes from Cassis.

Cassis Romano

We had lunch on the port.

Our fav' hang out was closed.

So we went to Romano with the young celebrated chef Antoine Marret.

In the middle of the first bite, I thought, "Oh God, this could become my new fav hang out."

Romano Fennel Soup

The waiter asked how I enjoyed my meal?

"I could kiss the cook."

I wanted to ask if I could wash dishes so I could sneek peek at his recipes.

  1. How fun! Glad you had a good Sunday afternoon. We are snug as bugs in a rug here as the snow/freezing rain is falling outside.

  2. What a lovely day. You two have earned it. So glad you took the time to enjoy it.

  3. Ahhhhh … Cassis! I have dreamed about moving there as well. We had a wonderful holiday there many years ago.

  4. WR Dreams a Dream

I dream of owning a bastide or mas in the south of France; an L-shaped one with the smaller wing for guests who come to visit and a pool in the middle of the two wings and a loooonnnng table that seats 12 people under a stand of plane trees adjacent to the pool.
There are bicycles to hop on to go to town to fetch whatever to cook magnificent meals together… a boules court perhaps and certainly a few olive trees, just enough to cook with all year and to give as gifts.

  5. So lovely and filled with so many beautiful memories! Frank and I spent the weekend in freezing cold Chicago. Shopping, eating and celebrating my negative breast biopsy! I feel like I can dream again.

  6. My dream came true Friday! My husband made it through his brain tumor surgery with a negative frozen section result. All subsequent brain functioning tests he has passed with flying colors. Today, his color is back and he set up in ICU ready to watch a Redskin game. If all continues so well he could be home this week!
Thank you, Corey, for sending your prayers our way. God bless!

Ooh! Loved Cassis! My daughter and I took the boat out thru the Calanques and then had lunch and shopped in the port in October! And you live only 20 minutes away!!?? How awesome!

Really lovely photos of you both so happy, dreaming, enjoying the day and the place and each other. Thank you for sharing your joy in it, Corey. xo

So glad to see you enjoying a day together in Cassis…one of my fav places during our visit. You take such beautiful photos. It’s very inviting when we are in Oklahoma experiencing sleet and ice.

  15. 24/7 in France

Cassis is a lovely town – whether to visit or live!

  16. Gorgeous place! Great memories of our short visit to Cassis. Keep the dreams and fun coming! Miss you and hope to see you soon!

  17. Returning to Cassis. Maybe the blue and white espadrilles w the red anchor on them will still be in the store window and I can wear them to lunch at the very same place! You didn’t tell us what you had for lunch!

  18. Cousin Linda

What? Yann has shaved off his beard. Now I kinda miss it.

  19. Nikki Maxwell

Love Romano’s in Cassis. Also love Angeline’s around the other side of the port. If you haven’t tried it yet Corey I reckon it’s the best bistro there is (notwithstanding Villa Madie but that’s a bit exe)

  20. You both looked relaxed and beautiful!
    The scenery is gorgeous!

  21. Marie-Noëlle

    Love Cassis. Love you.

  22. Rebecca from the pacific northwest

When did Yann return to clean shaven? Did it make you cheerful when he did it?
When we went to Cassis, years ago, we meandered around and had trouble finding a place to eat and were generally out of sorts, so it didn’t suit us. I need you to tour-guide/introduce me to it through your eyes sometime.
And, we do that same sort of thing, imagining about moving to some other lovely place while being very content, really, with exactly where we are.
