Sacha was in an Avalance

Avalanche

Sacha was in an Avalanche, he is okay. Shaken. But okay.

If I was near him I would hit him!! Then hug him.

French Husband and Sacha were skiing off course. A crazy habit of theirs.

Ding Dongs!!!

Via Facebook I read from Yann:

"Sacha a vraiment battu son record hors piste … déclenchement d'une avalanche et pris dedans. ..
Il s'en sort sans problème avec une heure de recherche pour retrouver un ski….. Il a toujours sa bonne étoile avec lui …."

I nearly pucked on my computer screen!

Translation:

"Sacha really beat his skiing record off course… triggering an avalanche, and went with it

He's doing fine. Nearly an hour searching for his ski ….. He still has his lucky star above him.

Sacha wrote on his Facebook:

" il est assez raide
Et la y avait plein de poudre. J'ai à peine commencé que toute la plaque à lachée…
J'ai essayé de me mettre de face pour skier vers le coté et m'en sortir mais trop tard. Ça a commencé à faire peur quand la neige s'est mise à recouvrir ma tête et ça s'est arrêté la heureusement ! Mais j'ai perdu un ski…"

Translate:

"Enough snow pck it was steep…
And plenty of powder. Once I started down the whole plate released-
I tried to ride straight with it, then to the side and get out but it was too late. I was afraid when the snow began to cover my head, it stopped right at that point! Thankfully! But I lost a ski.

I am sure Sacha had the ride of his life.

I am sure Yann, who was on top on the slope FREAKED OUT!!!

I am still in shock.

What a year we have had… so many events have taken us right to the edge.

Thank you thank you thank you that Sacha is safe.

Lesson:

STAY TRUE to the course, stay on track Ding dongs!!!

  1. Oh, my! Sending warm hugs to thaw the skier and a bit of finger wagging: “no, no, no, Sacha, don’t scare Corey like that”.

  9. Darlene Schueler

My stomach fluttered reading the male version. Even they felt nervous. Happy they are fine.

  10. Cousin Linda

Your father was a fearless daredevil and then you turned around and married one. Sacha came out of the womb destined to follow in those footsteps.

  11. Boys and men, sigh. Angels were there to keep them safe.

  12. So scary! Hope he skis with an avalanche locator and a shovel. Seriously. So thankful he is ok!

  13. Sherri Richter

So Corey, how many new gray hairs do you have!?

  17. Lynn Bartlett

Scary, especially when you are away and can’t hit him and hug him!

  18. Whew! Glad he is OK, but soooooooooooooo scary!
What a ride! Do you think he learned to stay on course?

  19. So glad Sacha is ok.

  20. OMG Corey it makes a mother’s heart climb right into her throat. So glad to hear that he is alright even if he is minus a ski. Hope that that is the last of the misadventures for you. Sending you a big hug,
    Warmest regards, Anna

  21. So glad he is OK!! This can be a consequence of skiing off course. But it’s a great picture and now he has a great story to tell. 😉

  22. What would you do in a boring life? Hugs.

  23. Thank goodness he is ok . . . Be safe, Sacha.

  24. Christine Dickinson

  26. Oh, these boys!!! So, so glad he’s okay!

  27. Oh my goodness! How very, very scarey. I am so happy he is safe. I’m a believer of guardian angels, & it sounds like one was with him. Whew!

  28. Every parent’s worry is that our kids will get hurt doing something they LOVE! So glad this story ended well. Won’t he have lots to tell his friends!

  29. Country French Judi

OMG this could have been a trip to the states you would have never forgotten. Thank GOD he is ok. From the moment your first child is born you never ever sleep soundly again! This was told to me by the delivery room nurse on october 1st 1977 and I never forgot those words.

  30. Thank goodness Sacha is okay!!!
I really, really hope that this really makes hors piste skiing less enticing for him! Even with all the proper gear and preparation, it’s a dicey proposition.

  31. Sacha, it’s not worth dying for.

  32. No more “pucking” on your computer. All is now right with the world again, thank God!

  33. Do not be anxious about anything but in everything by prayer and love present your gratitude and thanksgiving to GOD.
( I changed the above from the Phil 4:6 to fit this situation. This was the first thoughts that came to me when I was received your blog post via email. )

  34. What a shock for you, Corey. Sacha probably doesn’t realize yet how much luck he had. You still can hit him when you’re back … or better hug him.

  35. Sacha was luckier than Michael Shumacher, then. High avalanche alert in the Alps yesterday (though maybe Yann & Sacha were in the Basse-Alpes?). So glad your son is well.

  36. Basses-Alpes, je veux dire. As others have noted, “hors piste” skiing is “off-piste” or backcountry in US.

  37. So pleased to hear he is fine and that his lucky star is watching over him! I know what it’s like having a son who likes to push those boundaries.

  38. I am so glad Sacha is fine……………..Much love and many blessings. Big hugs

  39. What a scare! Glad he is safe!

  40. Oh, Corey! I’m so glad that Sacha is okay! Is there any way to make him stay off the slopes…at least until you get home? 🙂

  41. So scary! Glad to hear he is fine.

  42. I’m glad that Sacha kept his wits about him (well, if you neglect the decision to ski off course) and managed as well as he did.

  43. once a mom, always a mom + so glad he is alright. Happy New year xxpeggybraswelldesign.com

  44. Iowa Julie

Very frightening. Mothers have enough worries without adding avalanches to the list. Thank you to Sacha’s guardian angel.

  45. What a surprise! So glad to hear Sacha is fine–sending hugs.

  46. Franca Bollo

Some people have all the fun.

  47. Scary!!! Glad to hear all is well!

  48. Teddee Grace

Thank goodness he’s OK. There are so many skiers killed in Colorado in avalanches each year that this is really something to take seriously. He and your husband, if they must ski off trail, need to get avalanche beacons pronto!

  49. Very scary stuff… but then, things can happen even sitting in your living room in front of the fireplace… So glad that all turned out well.

  50. I would have hit him too and then hugged him. Our children sometimes cause us so much stress but also so much joy. I hope 2014 brings you much love. Thank you for a beautiful blog which brings pleasure to me each afternoon at work. Lyn
