Every Monday my mother invites my brothers and their families over for dinner. She cooks up a feast, desserts included.
Often she plans some sort of entertainment for us after dinner. A master of ceremony.
Last Monday it was a bonfire.
She gathered wood from around the ranch, put it in the middle of the field behind the barn, after dinner we sat around and watched it burn.
The glow of the bonfire reflected on the faces of those I love.
Or was the glow from an eternal flame of love we have for one another?
My nephew Andy, home for a few more days before going back to college.
My brother Marty goofing off.
Hot potato!
Made the children laugh with his antics, made my mom yelling, "Marty!"
As I sat by the bonfire, I looked around at my nieces, nephews… family.
I was warm.
I was comfortable.
I felt the fire within me.
I am fortunate, so very fortunate.
A simple moment in time, by a bonfire in the field behind our family's barn.
How do you let your light shine?
Comfort and joy.
Comfort and joy.
Those words took on new meaning.
To stand by one another.
To hold on.
To trust. To guide.
To take time to be together, for no other reason but to be.
In the center of my life.
Home and heart.
Family.
"Keep the fire burning,
kindle it with care,
and we will join in and sing
Here we are,
Altogether as we sing our song,
Joyfully.
Here we are as we pray will always be."
