Tuesday: The Color Yellow is Provence

Chocolate-pear

Yellow is Provence. The facades certainly. The glorious sun, the glistening on the sea, the clink of the Pastis glasses, straw hats, sunflowers, Marseille soap, let's not forget the golden baguette..

And then there is dessert: Pear with chocolate? That isn't Provencal. Well unless you are an American living here shaking up your Franco family with a bit of why not.

  1. Love gold, ochre, decorate with yellow at home, it’s sunshine all the time in my kitchen, dining and living room.
Yellow, like orange is happy. Don’t wear much yellow but I do gold and um, love love love provençal pottery, especially the old stuff, and in all colors.
Thank you for the ray of sunshine post!

Well that was just a feast for my eyes! Even on a wonderful surprise sunny day like today, yellow is a welcome color. On a grey day, even more so!
I wanted my house to be yellow, a pale but cheerful yellow with white trim. Husband nixed it. House is a cheerful greyed green with white trim instead.
(The inside of the house, the living/dining area, does indeed have spots of vivid Provence yellow, painted after a visit there, plus framed art from some artists in Bonnieux.)

Not yellow on the outside, but each room inside is a slightly different shade of yellow/gold/ochre…….love it.

To me, yellow = summer. I love wearing the buttery tones. You mention bees, but omitted honey and beeswax, typical of Provence.

  5. Yellow is my favorite color, it is a happy color. Yes, I wear it too. It reminds me of daffodils in March. Love the yellows that you shared. Love anything with lemons. Drooling now for the Tarte Tatin. I tried making one once upon a time, but didn’t succeed. I need to try again.

My house is yellow! My late husband chose the colour 40 years ago. I cannot and would not ever change it as it has become known as “the pretty yellow house”
whenever it is referred to. It is the colour of joy I think.

  7. Ana Maria

My house is a Mediterranean style with terracotta tiles. It is ochre with green trim and a green double front door. There is an antique Fatima door knocker bought in Spain by my father in 1972. Inside there are different shades of yellow all over. It is my favorite color!

  8. my home is apple green with hot pink doors! I love it

  9. Symphonie provençal … gorgeous!

  10. Gorgeous as always! Thanks for the warm glow.

  11. M’y home is French rural romance, that entertains whites of age, grey washed over pieces with French curves. My home is a small cottage on the Southern California desert, grey and white exterior with limed oak floors and pale tiles.
I am so inspired with your beauty here and all things French.
Will return for the love of French brocante, being of French descendant the French have a saying for what is brocante, “not quite valuable, but not quite worthless”
I too love a great brocante find.
Thank you for this beautiful French yellow share.
    Will see you soon.

  12. My colors are the various shades of Mediterranean blue, which goes, bien sur, perfectly with Provencale yellow.

My kids’chose yellow as their fav colour. My first car was a used yellow Toyota, but after the sun faded it into a mustard shade, I not longer liked the colour. The mellow of yellow can also turn murky after a wash with coloured clothes. Though in it’s true form…a ray of brillant sunshine to me!

  14. You’ve inspired me. I’m putting my yellow Provencal tablecloth on the table today as a shield against the dreary rain falling outside.

  15. Corey, you studied to be a minister, a monk, a Buddha and although you didn’t follow that path directly, you minister with your words every day painting sunshine into the hearts of many. I often am healed from your wondrous photos and the Universe speaks through your words. Yellow is definitely a color that speaks delight, like the thick honey of a hug.

  16. What a perfectly wonderful post. I love Lemon Pasta, and will make it tonight. Actually, I love all the yellow colors in the landscape, they brighten up one’s day so very much. xx’s

  17. adore the color yellow + lemons + anything yellow is good for me. xxpeggybraswelldesign.com

  18. My kitchen is painted a sunny yellow made to look like a plastered wall. My school room is an overdosed yellow. I chose those colors because I needed the warmth and happiness for a very “cold” time in my life. Yes, yellow makes me happy.

  19. Corey, these are gorgeous, stunning, inspired posts! Thank you!
Yellow is my 10 year old daughter’s favourite colour, as other posters have noted, the colour of joy 🙂

  20. My house is pale yellow on the outside, my lounge is a bit darker with birdseye maple panels and my front verandah is a bright yellow with blue touches – not sure how this happened but it is warm and happy. Lyn

  21. Oh, yes I love yellow…such a happy color. And my little house IS yellow with light green shutters and trim. Also, my living room walls are soft buttery yellow..have loved them for 15 yrs and don’t think I will ever change it..even ‘tho I love all colors.
