Easter Parade

Have you ever been to a vintage Easter parade? Do you remember being a little girl wearing your Easter bonnet with the satin ribbons tied under your chin?

My nieces dressed up at my cousin's Denise's shop/studio. Denise has a vast collection of vintage prom and bridemaids dresses, matching shoes and flower bonnet hats.

Denise gave them free rein to play dress up.

Vintage Easter Day Parade

With their handmade Easter baskets in hand they dressed up.

Each selected the color and style that they wanted from the many options.

All I requested was that they wore flowers in their hair.

  1. What beautiful girls and what an experience they’ll always remember. I’m not sure I knew what color chartreuse was. I looked it up when you mentioned it. The name comes from a French liquor. Did you know that?

Off the subject a bit…I am the person who will be in Paris and Nice next week. I sent you an e-mail…did you receive it? Should I try again?

  6. Such beautiful photos of gorgeous nieces. The green leaf bedecked dress is the one is want! I love Kate’s bonnet. They have all chosen gorgeous gowns. You can see that they are reveling in their dress up adventure.

It certainly puts me in the spirit of Spring time delights.

  8. Oh, very pretty..all. Love all Easter/spring colors. Every Easter growing up in the ’60s my sister and I had matching dresses (usually mine was pink and hers was blue) with bonnets and little white gloves and sometimes a little vinyl purse. The bonnets always had the thin elastic thread under the chin to stay on.

  11. I love this! Sweet little girls and luscious colors! This reminds me of my little one, when she was a young girl, (now 32) , I had her all kinds of jewelry ,play dresses and the hats! I still have the hats and some of the jewelry to this day awaiting a new sweet one to wear! Just a beautiful post!

In the mid-fifties, a trip to “the City” …San Francisco ofcourse, to buy Easter outfits meant starting with a gardenia corsage from a corner flower stand for mother, grandma and myself, then going to The City of Paris departmeant store, Macy’s and he White House dept. Store until we were all outfitted. Dept. Stores had “alteratons ladies”, and corsette fitters and even ladiies who sat discreetly in a corner with a big magnifying glass, invisibly mending nylon stockings. My favourite bonnet was white straw with navy grosgrain edging and ribbons, and several little white artifiial roses. I was eight years old…Should’ve kept it!

  14. I love these photos…beautiful young girls having
so much fun dressing up…makes me want to be young
again. When I was a young girl, my mother would
sew a new dress for me for Easter, and always a cute
little bonnet. Lovely memories from years gone by.
